PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating a video showing a man alleging sexual harassment by a balloon vendor in Genting Highlands in Bentong, Pahang. Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said in a statement that no official report was filed on the incident.
Advertisement He urged the owner of the TikTok account on which the video was posted to come forward and assist in investigations. 'Initial checks on the TikTok account's content revealed that the individual may have been involved in several other similar incidents at different locations, where attempts of criminal acts were made against them,' he said. Zaiham urged those who had experienced similar incidents to contact the police and file a report. The man claimed that upon accepting a balloon, the vendor invited him to a room for a snack. However, the balloon vendor allegedly locked the two of them in the room and asked the man to expose himself for RM50, which he refused to do. But the man later pulled out a RM50 note from his hoodie before the video ended. Ex-legal claims adviser fined almost RM100,000 for cheating
BUTTERWORTH: A former legal claims adviser has been fined RM97,200 by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to two charges of cheating involving Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) claims last year. Judge Zulhazmi Abdullah handed down the sentence on A. Ari, 37, after he admitted to the charges at the Butterworth court on Wednesday (Aug 20). The court also ordered him to serve six months jail for each charge in default of the fines. In the first charge, Ari had admitted to having cheated Muhammad Helmi Abd Rahman, 36, by deceiving him into believing that he could secure a higher percentage of Permanent Disability Assessment (HUK) by a medical board in a PERKESO claim. This led the victim to hand over RM50,000 at a restaurant in Seberang Jaya in September 2023. For the second charge, Ari had used the same modus operandi to cheat another man, Mohammad Azrin Ibrahim, 29, of RM47,200. Both charges were framed under Section 417 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of five years, a fine, or both upon conviction. Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutors Noor Azura Zulkiflee and Nurnajihatul Idayu Mohd Azuyar had urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence. 'If the court allows a fine, I request that it be a reasonable amount,' said Noor Azura. However, Ari's counsel, S. Parameswaran, during mitigation, pleaded for a lower fine, citing his client's current financial struggles. 'My client has since been sacked and now works as a lorry driver earning RM4,000 to RM5,000 a month after being dismissed from the legal firm. "He also supports his mother, his wife, who is a housewife, and two school-going children aged 10 and 12. 'He has saved the court's time by pleading guilty, is remorseful after being remanded for four days following the arrest and promised not to reoffend. 'Moreover, he did not keep all the money and had to pawn his wife's jewellery to raise RM60,000 for the fine,' he said.

The legal team, comprising Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri together with four others, said the solidarity gathering was for Zara's justice. 'I urge the organisers of this solidarity event to reject any individuals who wish to deliver politically motivated speeches,' said Hamid Monday. He added that the spirit of the gathering is to honour Zara's memory and to keep the focus on her rather than political interests. Hamid said he and his team strongly support the solidarity gathering. However, he advised those participating in the peaceful assembly to comply with the law and maintain cleanliness. According to Hamid, the wave of solidarity for Zara across the country would not have happened if there had been no negligence at the early stage of the investigation and if a post-mortem had been conducted properly. Meth tops list in KL, Labuan drug raids with 70pct of addicts hooked
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 70 per cent of Malaysian drug addicts hauled in raids conducted across Kuala Lumpur and Labuan over the past two days were hooked on synthetic drugs, mainly methamphetamines (meth). However, National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said that older addicts, aged between 40 and 60, preferred heroin. "Addicts are very interested in meth or 'ice', with 77 out of 112 cases involving the drug. "We also have heroin addicts among them, aged around 40 to 60. "They are among the hardcore addicts," he said after a raid here last night. A 14-day remand order will be sought for the 107 men and five women nabbed in the raids to enable obtaining a court order for rehabilitation under Section 6 of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983. He said older addicts would be harder to rehabilitate due to their long-term dependency. "That's one of the challenges. But we will nonetheless provide appropriate treatment modules. "Prevention, however, is key," he said. Out of the 112 people arrested, aged between 19 and 61, only 16 were detained in Labuan. Ruslin said that addicts caught together may not be sent to the same facilities to optimise the rehabilitation process. "They're all friends. We can't put them in the same place," he said. However, only Malaysians are eligible for rehabilitation at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen), while foreigners will be handed over to the Immigration Department. "They have jobs. Some of them are security guards with registered firms, and some are contractors. "For meth, sometimes it costs a minimum of RM50. If they don't work, they can't afford it," he said. Two men nearly escaped Nada during a raid last night at an abandoned construction site near The Exchange 106 tower at Tun Razak Exchange. After Nada personnel and police rounded up drug users on the barren plot, loud thuds were heard from a nearby metal hut. Rushing to the spot, enforcement officers found two men attempting to flee. While some detainees were already high when handcuffed, others appeared visibly jittery. Ruslin said the group's activities, including receiving supplies, peaked between 6am and 10am, as well as from 5pm to 7pm. He added that the site had been active since last year, noting that drug distribution and consumption hotspots often shifted over time.
