Jamie Lee Curtis shares real reason behind 23-year Freakier Friday delay

Daily Mirror30-07-2025
Freakier Friday hits cinema next week and Tess Coleman actress Jamie Lee Curtis has set the record straight on why fans had to wait 23 years for the Freaky Friday sequel
Jamie Lee Curtis has opened up on the reason behind the 23-year wait for Freakier Friday.

The sequel to 2003 Disney classic Freaky Friday hits cinemas on Friday, August 8 and this time it includes a four-way switch.

Lindsay Lohan, returning as Anna Coleman, swaps bodies with her daughter, while Jamie ends up switching with her soon-to-be step-granddaughter.

The trailers promise that, like the original, lots of screaming ensues and Jamie has opened up on why fans have had to wait over two decades to see her reprise the role of Tess Coleman.
Appearing on BBC's The One Show, Jamie told hosts Alex Jones and Clara Amfo the "truth" behind the decision to delay the film.
Alex pointed out: "You really pushed for this movie to happen."

Jamie agreed: "Yes I did."
The presenter continued: "But it had to be at the perfect time in a way. didn't it?"

The Hollyoaks star confirmed: "The truth is Lindsay had to be old enough to have a 15-year-old daughter.
"People would ask me about the movie over and over again around the world and I would say 'yeah we'd love to do it, we love each other and we'd have a great time, Lindsay has to be old enough to be a teenager or the movie doesn't work'.

"And then finally, I think it was in Australia, someone said 'she is' and I was like 'what do you mean?' because I've know her since she was 15.
"She's a young girl. now she's a young mommy, she's this young girl. I don't know how old she is but someone told me and I was like 'oh, we can make a movie. Let's go'.

Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Rosalind Chao, Ryan Malgarini, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Lucille Soong also reprise their respective roles from the original film, with Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons in her feature film debut and Manny Jacinto joining the cast.
Jamie went to reveal that Freakier Friday is heading to cinema was due to the success of Barbie.
The actress explained: "I may have called all my executives at Disney and said I may have one word for you, Barbie.
"Barbie was a great example of how families and all generations will go to the movies together and thats what going to the theatre is all about."
The One Show airs weekdays on BBC One at 7pm and Freakier Friday hits cinemas on August 8

The Fortune Hotel star reveals ‘stressful' edited down game show left out shock scene as pairs battle it out for £250k

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE Fortune Hotel star has revealed the 'stressful' reality of filming the hit ITV game show. Contestants were pushed to the limit as they battled it out for a life-changing £250,000, but one star says viewers didn't see the half of it — including a dramatic scene that never made it to air. Viewers watched 11 pairs make their debut - but were immediately faced with a twist. Only 10 pairs would get a room in The Fortune Hotel - as one duo would be eliminated at the first hurdle. The contestants took part in a tense boat race, with the first five pairs to arrive guaranteed safety. However, the bottom six were at risk of leaving before the contest fully began. One by one, they picked a case while hoping they didn't find the dreaded early checkout card. Luck ran out for best pals Briony and Chelsey, who picked the doomed case and were booted off the show before they even stepped foot inside The Fortune Hotel. The rest of the contestants continued to their first challenge and headed to the harbour. They were tasked to find a room key and make it to the hotel - but there were only 10 rooms. The land and sea race determined who was at risk of heading home. ITV issue major update on series two of The Fortune Hotel with Stephen Mangan following 'fakery row' Stephen explained: "Your first challenge is to find a room key and make it to the hotel. But there are eleven pairs here and there only ten rooms available at The Fortune Hotel,. "Only the first five pairs to arrive at the hotel will be guaranteed a room. If you're among the bottom six pairs, then you will be in danger because one of those pairs will be heading home." It was utter chaos as the couples were stumped over the puzzle, as well as how to drive and manoeuvre the boat. Contestant Atholl spoke out about how stressful the task really was. The Fortune Hotel season 2 cast A second season of The Fortune Hotel has begun, and the stakes have been raised once again. Hosted by Stephen Mangan, the second series will see 22 new contestants check into the hotel in pairs. Across the eight episodes, the teams must use strategy, observation, and a good poker face to figure out who's holding the fortune - and try to steal it - all while dodging the early elimination card. Which pair will take home the life-changing £250,000? Below is a full cast list: Marilyn and Maxine Chelsey and Briony Atholl and John Jake and Mike Allan and Jacob Gurks and Guv James and Yasmine Nella and Tope Sue and Jeremy Fred and Min Martina and Briony Taking to X, he wrote: "You have no idea how stressful this was and or how edited down this is #TheFortuneHotel". He added: "This doesn't show the part where our driver stopped and asked us where we wanted to go next #DidntHappenToAnyoneElse #TheFortuneHotel". When they eventually arrived, five couples selected their cases. Jake and Mike claimed the £250,000 prize. The final six pairs played a high-stakes game of suitcase roulette - desperate to avoid the dreaded early departure card. But viewers have to wait till the next episode to see who's next to get the chop. The second series promises never-before-seen twists as Stephen teased: "It's brilliant getting a second series, because you can really lean into the stuff that people at home loved in the first series. "And there's more of that- more great challenges, more twists and turns, more drama. But also, a second series means that all the contestants have already seen the show. "It was a brand new show for the first series, no one had seen it, no one knew what to expect. "Now they've all come with a game plan so our job is to keep throwing them curveballs, so they can never relax and they never know what's coming." Atholl, 30, and his dad John, 58, are the current favourites to win the show. Coming all the way from Scotland, they travelled far for the show, so they didn't plan to go home empty-handed. This father and son duo is ready to get their hands on the £250,000 cash prize. Atholl said: "A lot of people are drawn to me, I'm quite a friendly person. My dad can deal with who the liars are as he's a retired police officer so has done a lot with body language. "Even when I was growing up, I could never lie! From being his son, I'm a great judge of character. If I have an inkling on something, I'm never normally wrong. I also remember details well, my memory is really good." Ex-police officer John added: "It's the ability to listen to people and gather information. Body language does tell you a lot." 'I accidentally swore at late Queen and her response blew me away'

Most people, when they encounter royalty, are on their best behaviour. But the stress of such a big occasion triggered youth worker John Davidson's condition, leading to an awkward moment One of the proudest days of youth worker John Davidson's life was in July 2019, when he was presented with an MBE by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Holyrood. But unlike the quiet murmur of thanks most people might utter under these circumstances, John suddenly shouted: "F*** the Queen!' ‌ John suffers from an extreme case of Tourette's Syndrome – a neurological condition that can cause tics, involuntary noises such as coughing or whistling or – in John's case – sudden outbursts of bad language. ‌ "The tic urge often comes when I'm anxious, stressed or tired," he told The Times, "and then it's an exhausting mental battle telling myself, 'John, that's the absolute worst thing you could do in this moment,' and then trying not to do it.' ‌ The pressure of the day had started to affect John almost as soon as he arrived at Holyrood Palace. As police made a routine security check, sliding mirrors underneath his vehicle to check for explosives, John's condition made itself known and he yelled: "A bomb! I've got a f***ing bomb!" He had also bellowed: "I'm a paedo!' as he walked down one of the Palace's tapestry-lined corridors, but Her Majesty was completely unruffled. John recalled: "Her Majesty was very kind. She was as calm and assured as my granny. She was very good about it.' ‌ John first came to public attention in 1989, when he was the subject of a BBC TV documentary called John's Not Mad. The programme hugely increased public awareness of Tourette's, but not always for the better, with The Times previously noting that the documentary inspired "nationwide playground mocking campaigns.' A group of religious fanatics, who had seen the programme, appeared at his front door brandishing crucifixes and attempted to 'exorcise the demon' that they believed was driving John's compulsive outbursts. At the time, he recalled, he was busy with his pet rabbit Snowy, and admits that when he told them: "Look, I need to deal with my rabbit so will you just f*** off?" those words didn't come from his condition, but from genuine irritation. ‌ But despite silliness from some viewers, John went on to become acknowledged as a "nationally known ambassador for the condition". Working with support groups such as Tourette Scotland and national organisation Tourettes Action, he has visited schools, given talks, and held workshops on living with Tourette syndrome. It was in recognition of his tireless outreach work that he was honoured by The Queen. "The MBE was the proudest moment of my life," he said. "I never thought I'd even have a life, let alone be able to help people and get recognised for it." Recognition of John's work has also resulted in a book and a new documentary film, both called 'I Swear.' His first meeting with the film's director, Kirk Jones, was marked by another one of his compulsive outbursts when he made the filmmaker a cup of tea, then told him: "I used spunk for milk."
