Following the departure of Robert Downey Jr., at least as Iron Man, Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Hemsworth's Thor has been one of the last, and the most visible, of the original Avengers team. With other Avengers, like Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, also passing the torch to new heroes, one wonders just how much longer Thor will be around.
It seems likely that Hemsworth may follow in the footsteps of his fellow Avengers and hang up his hammer before too long. However, fans were recently given a scare as they were afraid he'd chosen to do it now.
Yesterday, Chris Hemsworth posted a video to his YouTube channel titled 'Thank You! The Legacy of Thor.' The video included a variety of shots and interviews with various people from the beginning of Hemsworth's time in the MCU up through the present day. Along with the video came a post that read…
Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I've held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me.
Needless to say, the video and the post gave fans a start because it's easy to see it all as a farewell. Numerous posts indicated that when they first saw the post, they thought it was a retirement announcement. Comments included…
Got scared for a second that this was announcement that you were retiring from the character -@reallynotnoone
I my heart skipped a beat the second I saw this came across this video, I THOUGHT YOU WERE RETIRING 😭 PLEASE DON'T SCARE US LIKE THAT MY FATHER AND I ADORE THOR AND YOU -@veronicakim5412
I WAS THINKING THIS WAS THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE THOR'S END IN MCU Don't scare me like that, Chris!! -@nichols._.editss
literally got scared....Chris Hemsworth is a true legend .....Lots of love from India Sir -@vedant3598
Ok. I thought this is like a farewell video Need Thor 5 -@hi_im_willow
However, fans don't need to be too worried about losing Thor. At least not yet.
While Hemsworth's post could be read as a goodbye, anybody who saw the reveal of the Avengers: Doomsday cast knew that the Thor actor isn't done yet. His name was the first one revealed in the epic Marvel livestream. He also re-confirmed this fact at the end of his post, saying…
Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!
Of course, none of this means that Chris Hemsworth's Thor days aren't numbered. Thor may be appearing in next year's Avengers: Doomsday, but there's certainly no guarantee the character will survive the events. Perhaps this was a way for Hemsworth to begin to say goodbye to his time in the MCU.

It Looks Like Marvel Studios Is Ditching Comic-Con This Year — GeekTyrant

There are dueling reports regarding what Marvel's plans are for Comic-Con this year. Heat Vision is saying, 'Marvel will break with tradition and not have its infamous, senses-shattering Saturday evening Hall H panel.' This seems crazy to me because they have so much going one right now and they'd have plenty of stuff to announce and show off. But they say, 'it didn't feel like the right [time].' It's explained that the 'company is still planing panels and events focused on its comics and games, as well as a booth that will play off of the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps , which opens in theaters on the Friday of the annual fan convention.' Before that news hit, another report from Alex Perez at The Cosmic Circus, who is pretty reliable, said Marvel Studios was planning to drop the first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday at SDCC 2025. So, I guess he didn't get that one right. Avengers: Doomsday is the next massive team-up event from the MCU and fans could get their first look at the movie during the the event's run from July 24–27. While nothing is confirmed, the idea isn't far-fetched. In a response to a fan question, Perez shared: 'I have heard Marvel will return for SDCC, but I don't expect them to make it a grand spectacle like they normally do with Phase reveals. I think that the main focus for Marvel at SDCC will be to promote their new film, Fantastic Four: The First Steps, which coincidentally drops around the same time as SDCC this year. 'I'd also expect looks at Wonder Man, Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and VisionQuest, and an additional first look, possibly maybe even a teaser of Avengers: Doomsday.' So, the focus may not be a full-blown Phase 6 rollout, but there's a good chance Doomsday sneaks in with a first look, especially since it's already been filming since April. Marvel has a history of previewing early footage for the Comic-Con crowd before the rest of us get to see it. The film, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who are returning after their high-stakes run with Infinity War and Endgame, is already in production and scheduled to hit theaters December 18, 2026. I was hoping that Marvel would show up to SDCC this year, they always tend to give fans a thrilling mic-drop moment. It would've been wild to see them bring out the entire cast for Doomsday, including all of the unannounced cast members! That would be insane! But, it's not looking like it's going to happen. Bummer. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars follows one year later on December 17, 2027.

Unused Promo Merch From MADAME WEB Reveal Marvel Characters Including Thanos, Hulk, Carol Danvers & Drax — GeekTyrant

Madame Web was a box office dumpster fire, as many of the Sony superhero films that came before it. But it almost had the association of Marvel, along with a handful of MCU characters that could have tied in if the studio hadn't distanced itself. It was originally reported that Tom Holland's Peter Parker was going to appear in the beginning of Madame Web , but new photos that surfaced of unused promo merchandise that was sent to movie theaters feature popcorn buckets and soda cups that feature Marvel characters that would have appeared in the film. The unused promo art looks like Daily Bugle newspaper reports that mention Thanos, Tony Stark, Carol Danvers, Hulk, Doctor Strange, the God of Thunder, and more. There's even an image of Drax (Dave Bautista) from Guardians of the Galaxy , who was working a side gig as a news anchor all these years. Sony obviously doesn't have the rights to these characters, so they were obviously foreseeing, or at least hoping, that the studio would allow them to be mentioned in this sort of promotional material, but Marvel/Disney clearly didn't want to give anyone the impression that Madame Web was an MCU movie, and can you blame them? Madame Web went on to bomb at the box office, putting the final nail in the Sony Spiderman Universe's coffin. So Marvel probably made a good call. Check out the photos of the merch below, and let us know if you think any amount of Marvel intervention could have helped save this movie. via: CBM
