Details About Chris Martin Dakota Johnson's Romance Amid Their Breakup

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin are reportedly broken up for a 'final' time, according to insiders, so please bear with us while we mourn their sweet romance. 'It feels final this time,' a source told People on June 4, claiming the couple ended their eight-year relationship in recent weeks. The pair started dating in 2017 after being set up by mutual friends and kept their love story largely out of the public eye. The Fifty Shades of Grey actress didn't confirm their romance until a Sept 2018 in an interview with Tatler, simply saying, 'I'm not going to talk about it, but I am very happy.' In a super-rare 2021 interview with Elle UK, Johnson said, 'We've been together for quite a while, and we go out sometimes, but we both work so much that it's nice to be at home and be cozy and private. Most of the partying takes place inside my house.' In March 2024, it was reported that the couple had been secretly engaged 'for years' after first sparking engagement rumors in 2020. However, in August 2024, Johnson rep was forced to shut down breakup rumors as outlets began to speculate that the duo were on the rocks. Now that the pair have officially called off their romance, we're looking back at what once was. Check out all the little-known details we know about Johnson and Martin's ultra-private romance below: A version of this article was originally published with Sept 2023. More from SheKnows Chris Martin Has Fans up in Arms About His Reported Dakota Johnson Breakup Best of SheKnows 15 of Paulina Gretzky's Most Daring Looks to Date Jared Leto, Conor McGregor, & 33 Other Famous Men Who Have Been Accused of Sexual Assault Emily Ratajkowski's Dating History: All of Her Memorable A-List Flings Chris Martin shares two children with his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, Apple Martin, born in May 2004, and Moses Martin, born in April 2006. Throughout her relationship with Martin, Johnson was pictured out with his kids, having a great time, and going on family vacations. In March 2024, Johnson was asked by Bustle about her relationship with Martin's children. 'I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart,' she said. In the same interview with Bustle, Johnson talked about how she's open to motherhood, too. She said, 'I'm so open to that. I've gotten to this place where I really want to experience everything that life has to offer. And especially being a woman, I'm like, What a magical f*cking thing to do. What a crazy, magical, wild experience. If that's meant to happen for me, I'm totally down for it.' There have been numerous photos and videos of Dakota happily dancing along at a Coldplay show. In fact, in 2023, fans caught a sweet moment where Martin got her attention while she was in the VIP box. Along with frequently going to see Martin play in concert, Johnson told Bustle she absolutely adores seeing him! 'I love watching him. I could watch him every day. I don't know how to explain it. I feel like, I don't know… I'm watching my most favorite being do his most favorite thing,' she said. 'When people are really good at things, it is [sexy.]' In photos obtained by People in February, the pair were seen holding hands and cozying up while on vacation at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Back in 2021, after four years together, they moved in together and lived in Martin's Malibu mansion. He sold it a year after and moved to another home in Malibu. And, fun fact, Johnson told SheKnows that her Daddio co-star Sean Penn is one of their celebrity neighbours. On Nov 14, Dakota Johnson revealed at the 2023 Hope for Depression Research Foundation annual luncheon that Martin helps her out on the tough days, in a rather cute and funny way. 'A few weeks ago, I was having a low day and my partner, said to me, 'Are you really struggling?' and I said 'No?'' she said, 'And he said, 'Baby, you are wearing a Cats T-shirt.' As in Cats the music. So it turns out, I really was struggling. But that moment lifted me up and pulled me out of it.' While Johnson frequently goes to Martin's shows, she even directed the Coldplay music video 'Cry, Cry, Cry.' The single was released on Valentine's Day in 2020, and along with Johnson, the video was also co-directed Cory Bailey. In 2018, Harper's Bazaar reported that the two were seen with matching infinity symbol tattoos, with Johnson's on her elbow and Martin's on the inside of his arm. As of 2023, Johnson has 12 tattoos and Martin has six. Not only has Johnson attended many Colplay concerts and directed a music video, but she even helped Martin improve the shows by introducing him to SubPacs. For those that don't know, SubPacs are a device that helps the hearing impaired enjoy the shows more by letting them feel the vibrations of a concert. Martin talked about it on the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, saying, 'Dakota, my partner, gave me one as a gift because she saw someone online experiencing whatever they are experiencing with this. It's kind of like body armor that you put on. It connects to the bass.' He added: 'So, we started using it and it's been so amazing and it should get better and better. We have ten or twenty now of those packs. So, if you're hearing impaired we have an area where you put on the pack and you can feel the show.' Get ready for this one because during a show in London back in Oct 2021, Martin pointed to Dakota Johnson in the audience and said, 'This is about my universe. She's here,' per ET. Not only has Johnson been on several holidays with Chris Martin, his kids, and Gwyneth Paltrow, but Paltrow also 'adores' Dakota! Paltrow posted a birthday tribute to Johnson on Instagram in 2019, per People. And soon after, she told Harper's Bazaar, 'I love her. I can see how it would seem weird because it's sort of unconventional… I adore her.' In a rare interview with People in 2018, Johnson's mom Melanie Griffith said, 'I adore him! 'But [Dakota] is very private about her life, and I respect that.' Along with Griffith, Dakota's dad Don Johnson talked about how he feels about Martin. In Nov 2021, he said, 'But listen, if she's happy, I will be happy, and he's a lovely guy. And if she decides to get married, I would imagine that there would be grandchildren not too far out for that. I'd be pretty excited about that part.'

Chris Martin Has Fans up in Arms About His Reported Dakota Johnson Breakup

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have kept fans guessing about their relationship for years. Are they on or are they off? The June 4 report from People led everyone to believe that the duo was done for good after eight years of a back-and-forth relationship. More from SheKnows Insider Reveals Dakota Johnson & Chris Martin's Biggest 'Issues' That Led to Their Breakup 'It feels final this time,' a source told the media outlet. But record scratch, the Coldplay singer has fans questioning every claim that they are no longer together after his concert at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on June 6. A Deuxmoi Instagram clip showed Martin sharing some love to his ex (not ex?) in a subtle way. 'Thank you so much, everybody. Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other,' he said to the crowd at the end of the concert. 'Don't forget to see Materialists! We love you!' Martin is savvy enough to know that his message urging fans to see Johnson's upcoming movie would carry far and wide over social media. Deuxmoi added in the caption that the person who submitted the video stated emphatically, ' ‼️THEY'RE NOT BROKEN UP‼️' Johnson's supporters were not amused by his move, though; they blamed him for the inconsistent nature of their romance. 'This relationship was dragging Dakota down first and foremost, and Chris was doing what he loved to the detriment of Dakota's career. It's time for her to go her own way and not follow him on tour. Run Dakota,' one social media account said in the comments. Another Johnson fan added, 'Her team leaked it to People first. They are done. For the past 8 years, they get together and break up and then repeat it. That is not a healthy relationship.' Still, some followers gave Martin the benefit of the doubt noting, 'You can break up with someone and still be supportive. Look at him and GP [Gwyneth Paltrow].' Martin and Johnson's career and life timeline seemed to be an issue, according to an insider who spoke to The Sun. 'They really tried to work through their issues, but the age gap was often a problem, and she'd expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life, but they discussed it,' they explained of the couple's 13-year age gap. 'They made some beautiful memories as a family, and it'll be hard for both of them to move on after such a long relationship, but they will do it.' It's hard to know whether Martin's move was just a friendly gesture or a way to reconcile with his reported ex. But there's one thing for certain — Martin and Johnson will keep fans guessing all the way to the of SheKnows 15 of Paulina Gretzky's Most Daring Looks to Date Jared Leto, Conor McGregor, & 33 Other Famous Men Who Have Been Accused of Sexual Assault Emily Ratajkowski's Dating History: All of Her Memorable A-List Flings

Love Wins! 13 LGBTQ+ TV Couples We're Rooting For in 2025

Here at TVLine, we've always been big 'shippers at heart. What can we say? We just love love. So with another Pride Month officially in full swing, we thought we'd take stock of some LGBTQ+ TV couples currently demanding our attention — as well as our full support. And what a group we've assembled this year, one that includes a pair of ghosts, a few vampires and, yes, even a handful of humans. More from TVLine Glad The Last of Us Spared Dog? Did Rehearsal Give You High Anxiety? Did Survivor 50 Need Fan Input? Vexing Organized Crime Absences? More Qs! The Last of Us Season 3: Is Pedro Pascal Gone for Good? Here's What the EPs Say The Last of Us Finale Kills [Spoiler], Teases Abby's Side of the Story - Plus, Grade It! To be eligible for inclusion in our list, a couple needs to be from a live-action, scripted series that's still airing new episodes. We also limited ourselves to only one couple per show. Read on for a breakdown of 13 LGBTQ+ TV couples we're currently rooting for, arranged alphabetically by show title, then drop a comment with your own additions to the list. Which queer pairings currently have your full attention? The very definition of #CoupleGoals (are people still saying that?), Hen and Karen have been an inspiration, both to the other couples on the show and to the viewers at home, from the moment we met them in Season 1. They've had to fight tooth and nail to keep their growing family intact, with every obstacle making them stronger along the way. Plus, there's simply no denying Aisha Hinds and Tracie Thoms' natural chemistry. — Andy Swift An esteemed Congressman and an in-demand journalist? These two have the potential to become D.C.'s top gay power couple — that is, if they can get their house in order first. Martin may own an array of designer suits, but with all those skeletons in his closet, he barely has anywhere to put them. If Smitty uncovers his husband's truth before Martin reveals it himself, things could get very ugly. — A.S. Criminal Minds over 18 seasons (and counting) has, frankly, not featured much LGBTQ+ romance, so Evolution steering Tara into bisexual territory was monumental. Save for an early-season love scene (a rarity for the crime drama!), this pairing has had little screen time in Season 18, but it's good to know they're going strong — to the point that it may be time to meet the parents! — Matt Mitovich Not unlike the Grinch, Leo Stark's heart has grown several sizes during his time in Salem, and the former grifter is always at his best when he's in a stable relationship. After a string of failed romances, Leo seems to have finally gotten it right with Javi, and we're enjoying this latest version of him. Hey, what could possibly go wrong to screw up this perfect pairing? It's not like we're talking about some kind of soap op… oh, right. — A.S. This flame was well on its way to being rekindled when all hell broke loose in the Season 3 finale — just as Eve got blindsided by Francine's talk of having kids. In the heat of the moment, Eve didn't pivot well (at all), but in the wake of Francine's heroics during the Three Rock blaze, we hope they in fact are back on track. — M.M. Yes, the cute couple played by Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani hit a bit of turbulence in the freshman season of Netflix's vacation comedy. (Danny ignoring his health issues and Claude's hot Italian temper led to a fight where Danny's clothes ended up on the front lawn.) But once you get past all the drama, there's a genuine sweetness to these two, and we loved watching them cuddle together and make up. — Dave Nemetz We #Momelia fans are a patient lot. It's been more than a season since Amelia first asked out the new colleague with whom she sparks so appealingly, and they still haven't so much as kissed. Nevertheless, their mutual respect for and ever-increasing understanding of one another keeps us telling ourselves, 'Maybe the next episode will be the one.' — Charlie Mason In Season 3 of Netflix's butterflies-inducing LGBTQ+ dramedy, the high-school sweethearts' romance was tested like never before — by their cohabitation, by the academic pressure on the former, by the latter's nonbinary journey. Yet as we shippers knew they would, the couple managed to rise to the challenges before them and emerge closer than ever on the other side. — C.M. You want to talk about bringing down the house? When these immortal lovers reunited in a hotel at the end of Season 2, in the midst of a devastating New Orleans storm, the structure quite literally crumbled around them. Louis and Lestat have a love for the ages, and now that their mutual misunderstandings have been cleared up, we're hoping for a fresh start moving forward. — A.S. The two post-apocalyptic teens managed to start a relationship in a) a mushroom apocalypse, b) while in deep grief over someone they both adored, and c) despite the fact that one of them was pregnant by someone else. Talk about finding love in a hopeless place! — Kim Roots There's no telling what the future holds for these two badass warriors — literally, the Paramount+ drama has yet to be renewed for a third season — but after all they went through and barely survived at the close of Season 2, it is one of our most fervent wishes that they found the time for lots of not talking. — M.M. Charley is one of those puppy dog characters to whom you only ever want to see good things happen, so imagine our pleasant surprise when he struck up a romance with pouty potter Yuri in the ghost drama's second season. The chemistry, the kisses, the Ghost reenactment — it was all just so, so good. If they couldn't be their authentic selves when they were alive, at least they can be happy together in the afterlife, right? — A.S. After four long, dry seasons (unless you count tears!), we were beginning to think that Isaac would never find someone to share his life with. But then, just when we least expected it, along came Michael to sweep his former frenemy off his feet. Watching them awkwardly figure out their feelings for one another was an unexpected delight, and that first kiss at the Christmas festival? Come on, now! We're all in with these two. — A.S.
