China and Hong Kong
stocks
rose on Monday, with investors focused on whether the U.S.-China trade truce deadline would be extended, while shrugging off data that highlighted persistent deflationary pressures in the world's second-largest economy.
Market participants broadly expect another extension from the August 12 deadline for the trade truce after earlier talks in Stockholm. Meanwhile, markets largely looked past underwhelming Chinese price data at the weekend.

Biz ops, illegal structures found in hsg units during checks in Gurgaon, 1k served notices

Gurgaon: The department of town and country planning (DTCP) has intensified its crackdown on illegal constructions in stilt parking areas and unauthorised commercial activities in residential colonies — key contributors to the city's deepening parking crisis. DTP (enforcement) Amit Madholia said that regular surveys in areas such as DLF phases, Sushant Lok (I–III), South City, Suncity, and Palam Vihar, reveal large-scale misuse of stilt parking spaces has been detected in licensed colonies, where residents often convert designated parking areas into servant quarters, storage rooms, or additional living spaces, forcing vehicles onto already congested streets. "Wherever construction is found in stilt parking areas, notices are issued to property owners. If illegal structures are not removed within the stipulated time, sealing and demolition follow," he said. He confirmed that more than 1,000 notices and restoration orders have already been served in DLF and Sushant Lok alone. In many licensed colonies, residential properties are being used for commercial purposes such as offices, salons, and boutiques. According to Madholia, such activities not only violate zoning rules but also intensify traffic jams and strain limited parking resources. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Emergency Generators in Varia: (Prices May Surprise You) Emergency Generator | Search Ads Search Now Undo The department has identified multiple such properties and issued notices. Many municipal colonies have narrow lanes and no provision for in-plot parking. Madholia, while noting that this does not fall directly under his jurisdiction, suggested that the solution lies in developing community parking zones on vacant government land or other available spaces. He also recommended regulated roadside parking through proper marking and time-slot systems. Complaints have also been received about illegal constructions in the parking basements of malls and group housing societies. Madholia urged Gurgaon residents to strictly follow building norms related to parking. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Persistent glitches mar Maharashtra's deemed conveyance portal, send people back to govt offices

Pune: Persistent glitches have marred the performance of the state's new online deemed conveyance portal Pratyay MahaBhumi, launched by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in May to digitise the process for housing societies, forcing many back to the deputy registrar's office. Many societies of Pune and Mumbai have complained to the cooperation department about the inability to log in or proceed with applications. While some registrations did go through, housing federation members said the system never really took off. It failed to deliver on the promise of eliminating in-person visits. Committee member of a Hadapsar society Prashant Joshi said, "We tried and failed to log in. Our society is waiting for a deemed conveyance for over 10 years. The system was supposed to save us repeated trips to govt offices." "We are aware of a technical glitch and are working to resolve it. Services will resume shortly," a senior cooperation department official said after a review meeting on Monday. The portal was designed to handle every stage of the deemed conveyance process — from document upload and scrutiny to hearing schedules and final orders — online, with a six-month deadline for completion. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 25 Brilliant Plant Hacks That Will Change the Way You Grow Things Learn More Undo The state has 1.3 lakh registered housing societies and 78,116 (62%) lack deemed conveyance, leaving them without legal ownership of the land they stand on. Such societies remain dependent on builders or original landowners and it hampers redevelopment, major repairs and access to loans or development rights. Housing federations have also demanded that the eight required documents be reduced to five or six for simplification of the process. The deemed conveyance provision was introduced in 2008 and rules notified in 2010, but uptake has remained low because of cumbersome procedures. Many societies either never initiated the process or abandoned it midway. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Lithium Stocks Surge as Chinese Mine Closes After Permit Expires

Shares of North American lithium producers soared as investors bet that the suspension of a major Chinese mine would ease a supply glut and likely lead to a rebound in prices. CATL, the world's biggest battery producer, confirmed the closure of its Jianxiawo mine on Monday, saying it's seeking to renew its expired permit. The fate of the mine, the largest in China's lithium hub of Yichun, had been under close scrutiny for weeks amid speculation that authorities wouldn't extend its license. The mine accounts for about 6% of global output, according to Bank of America Corp. 'In the short term, abrupt supply cuts would trigger further price volatility, disrupt the domestic battery industry and benefit foreign lithium miners,' said Martin Jackson, head of battery raw materials at consultancy CRU Group. Shares of US producer Albemarle rose nearly 16% Monday in New York in its biggest intraday increase in four months. Piedmont Lithium Inc. rose as much as 18%, while Lithium Americas Corp. surged as much as 14%. Chilean producer SQM also jumped as much as 12% in US trading. Lithium producers have struggled with a global supply glut exacerbated by demand headwinds for electric vehicles, including President Donald Trump's rollback of incentives for the industry in the US. The suspension of Jianxiawo mine could help narrow the massive supply surplus in the lithium market, potentially bolstering slumping prices of the battery metal. The suspension of CATL's mine will support higher lithium prices in the near term and is bullish for producers such as Albemarle Corp. and SQM, Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Sean Gilmartin wrote in a note Monday. Reduced Chinese output has led to more upside for lithium prices, signaling the market has found a bottom, with more constructive fundamentals likely to emerge in the next two years as supply ramp-ups start to fade, Gilmartin added. Demand still is expected to grow by 15% over the period, he said.
