Veejay Pre transfers from FEU to UP

UAAP Season 87 men's basketball Rookie of the Year Veejay Pre is taking his talents to Diliman.
The University of the Philippines announced Pre's transfer from Far Eastern University on Friday.
"We know naman yung kayang gawin ni Veejay. Magiging malaking tulong siya sa atin with his all-around game," said Fighting Maroons head coach Goldwin Monteverde.
Pre announced his departure from the Tamaraws last Tuesday in what he described as his 'hardest decision ever.'
UP also maintained that it was never in the picture as rumors and reports of Pre's transfer surfaced weeks ago.
"What's fortunate about all this is that hindi naman tayo nandun when reports and rumors began. We respected FEU, and kinausap lang natin si Veejay nung nakapag-decide at nakapagpaalam na siya sa FEU," said UP Office of Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.
Pre posted averages of 13.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in his first year in college.
The reigning top rookie will need to sit out Season 88 before being eligible to play for two years.

Ex-NBA star DeMarcus Cousins booted from Puerto Rico league
Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins was suspended by a Puerto Rico basketball league and had his contract rescinded after igniting a brawl earlier this week. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional League also fined Cousins $4,250, and he could be subject to another fine of $5,570, according to the league. The incident occurred Monday when Cousins was playing on the road for the Guaynabo Mets. "As an organization, we strongly condemn any form of violence or provocation, whether on or off the field. Safety, respect, and sportsmanship are non-negotiable values for this franchise," the Mets said in a news release. The situation began with Cousins exchanging words with a fan before he grabbed his crotch while walking toward the courtside seats. Cousins then grabbed the fan's arm as things quickly escalated. Teammates attempted to pull Cousins away and other fans began to hurl insults at Cousins. After being ejected, Cousins was doused by liquids as he left the floor. Security tackled him at one point to hold him back from trying to get into the stands. Cousins, 34, was averaging 18.2 points and 9.0 rebounds while playing in the top pro basketball league in Puerto Rico for the second time. He also played in the league in 2023. Cousins hasn't played in the NBA since the 2021-22 season. He was a four-time All-Star in 11 seasons but his career was derailed by two major injuries. In January 2018, he sustained an Achilles tendon injury with the New Orleans Pelicans. After returning to play 30 games for the Golden State Warriors the next season, he tore the ACL in his left knee in August 2019 as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and missed the entire season. Cousins played for seven NBA teams with the best part of his career being his 6 1/2 seasons with the Sacramento Kings from 2010-17. He finished third in Rookie of the Year balloting in 2011 after being the fifth overall pick out of Kentucky. Benilde sweeps top honors as Mycah Go, Rocky Motol named MVPs
NCAA De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde emerged as the big winners of individual awards after Mycah Go of the Lady Blazers and Rocky Motol of the Blazers were proclaimed MVPs in their respective divisions. Go, who had a total 174 points at the end of the elimination round to finish as the 26th top scorer, captured her second MVP plum after also winning the top award in Season 97. The veteran outside spiker, who missed Season 98 due to multiple injuries before making a strong comeback last year, was also the second best server after averaging 0.33 aces per set in the regular season while also emerging as the eighth best spiker with 29.86 success rate. With Go leading the Lady Blazers, Benilde has moved on cusp of another title and is now a victory away from sealing their four-peat run as they take on Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Game 2 of the NCAA Season 100 finals later today. Go will also take home the Best Outside Spiker award alongside Letran's young sensation Vanessa Sarie, who was also named both the Rookie of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Her teammate, Zam Nolasco, bagged the Best Middle Blocker award together with KJ Dionisio of San Sebastian College-Recoletos. Another pair of Letran players in Judiel Nitura and Lara Mae Silva brought home the Best Opposite Spiker and Best Libero plums, respectively. Catherine Domasig of Arellano University was the Best Setter. In the men's division, Motol became the Rookie MVP after leading top-seeded Benilde back to the Final Four, where they eventually fell twice to Letran to bow out of contention. Motol, who collected 330 points through the elimination round, and Barbie San Andres of Mapua University are named the Best Outside Spikers while Vince Himzon and John Austero were awarded the Best Middle Blockers, making Himzon now a three-time best middle in the league. Kobe Tabuga of University of Perpetual Help System was named the Best Opposite Spiker while Wayne Araño was given the Best Setter award. Brooke Van Sickle to be feted as MVP in inaugural PVL Press Corps Awards Night
Brooke Van Sickle of the Petro Gazz Angels will banner the list of awardees in the inaugural PVL Press Corps Awards Night on Wednesday. Van Sickle was named the PVL Season MVP after leading the Angels to the All-Filipino crown and ending Creamline's bid for its fifth straight title. Van Sickle topped the voting with a weighted score of 227.6 points which is calculated from 50% statistics, 30% media votes, and 20% team votes. The 27-year old Petro Gazz outside hitter edged Creamline's Bernadeth Pons and Michele Gumabao for the said plum. Thea Gagate of ZUS Coffee, meanwhile, was named Rookie of the Year, while the Mythical Team included Van Sickle and Pons (Best Outside Spikers), PLDT's Majoy Baron and Creamline's Bea de Leon (Best Middle Blockers), Galeries' Alyssa Eroa (Best Libero), Cignal's Gel Cayuna (Best Setter), and Farm Fresh's Trisha Tubu (Best Opposite Spiker). Jude Garcia of Criss Cross, meanwhile, was named Spikers' Turf MVP.
