Yuki Bhambri through to second round but Rohan Bopanna knocked out in 2025 Wimbledon men's doubles
Meanwhile, Bopanna and his Belgian partner Sander Gille lost to German third seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 3-6, 4-6 in straight sets to bow out in the opening round. Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli and his Colombian partner Nicolás Barrientos came from behind and then survived a long tie-break in the deciding set to beat Belgian David Goffin and Frenchman Alexandre Muller 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (11).
Arneodo and Guinard went toe-to-toe with Bhambri and Galloway for much of the first set, eventually forcing it to go into a tie-break. That remained the case in the tie-break as well but the Indian-American pair persevered and prevailed. However, they managed to get a break in the seventh game of the second set and then closed it out.
Bhambri and Galloway will next take on the winner of the match between the Dutch combination of Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer and American Marcos Giron and Nuno Borges of Portugal in the next round. Bopanna, who had won the 2024 French Open men's doubles title and the 2017, struggled along with his partner Gille to keep up with Krawietz and Puetz.
Bollipalli and Barrientos saved as many as four match points to prevail over Muller and Goffin. Their second-round match will be against either the sixth-seeded British pair of Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski or wildcards Joshua Paris and Charles Broom.
Another Indian N Sriram Balaji and his Mexican partner Miguel Reyes-Varela will also be in action in the men's doubles and will take on Aleksandar Kovacevic and Learner Tien in the opening round.

Boise on Korn Ferry: Rayhan Thomas makes cut
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Boise (Idaho), Aug 16 (PTI) Rayhan Thomas played a second round of 1-under 70 at the Hillcrest Country Club to make the cut in the Albertsons Boise Open on the Korn Ferry Tour. Thomas slipped to tied 33rd from tied 8th on the leaderboard at the end of the second day but safely made the cut. He had three birdies and two bogeys in the round. Having started on the back nine he began the round with a bogey and then recovered the shot with a birdie on the 11th before making another bogey of the day on the 18th hole. On the front nine he made consecutive birdies on the second and third holes for a score of one under for the day. His combined score now stands at seven under. Indo-Canadian Sudarshan Yellamaraju, a past winner in the Korn Ferry Tour, shot a round of 1-under 70 as well but missed the cut by one stroke after a first round 67. The cut was set at six under par and Yellamaraju had a two day score of five under par. Indo-American Julian Suri (63-72) also made the cut at T-33 alongside Thomas. Philip Knowles shot a second round of 7-under 64 to move into the lead at the halfway mark. The American played a bogey free second round including seven birdies. He began the day on the back nine and made birdies on the first, third, seventh, ninth, 15th, 16th and 17th holes. China's Zou Cheng (64-66) and German Adrien Dumont de Chassart (63-67) are tied second at 12-under. Bhatia closes with birdie-birdie to be in fray for Tour Championship
Owings Mills (US), Aug 16 (PTI) Indian-American golfer Akshay Bhatia is on the edge of qualifying for the Tour Championship as he shot 1-under 69 and improved from Tied-46h to Ted-37th at the midway stage of the BMW Championship here. Bhatia (75-69) is now 4-over for 36 holes and is just outside the Top-30, who qualify for the grand finale. After a superb first day with the putter, Scotsman Robert MacIntyre, who added a 6-under 64 to his first round 8-under 62, took a five-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler (66-65) going into the weekend. Bhatia, a Hero golfer, who played with Viktor Hovland in the second round, was sixth last week at St. Jude Championships. He had three bogeys and a birdie on the front nine and then two birdies and one bogey over the next six. He was 1-over at that stage. A birdie-birdie finish with putts from six feet and 12 feet on the last two holes saw him salvage the round to 69. He is now projected to finish on 32nd and needs to get into Top 30 to play the Tour Championship for the second year running. MacIntyre, who closed with six straight birdies in the opening round for a 62, started the second round with a shot to 5 feet on the 476-yard first hole for another birdie. He kept bogeys off his card this time and set a massive target at 14-under 126. MacIntyre, with 62-64, set career low 36-hole score on the TOUR and it was his second 36-hole lead/co-lead in stroke-play events on TOUR. The previous was at the 2024 RBC Canadian Open, which he won. He has five top-10 finishes in 21 starts this season including a runner-up finish at the US Open. Scheffler spent the steamy afternoon trying to stay in touch. He had six pars at the end for a 65 and is now 9-under 131. He will play in the final group. Ludvig Åberg shot 64 and is another stroke back. The five-shot lead is the largest 36-hole lead at the BMW Championship since Jason Day led by five shots in 2015 at Conway Farms. Day went on to win by six. In addition to the six birdies, three on either side of the Caves Valley course, MacIntyre missed a 5-foot birdie on the 18th and another birdie chance inside 8 feet on the eighth hole. Scheffler had his 15th consecutive sub-70 round and pulled within five shots on No. 12 when he hit a 4-iron from 221 yards to seven feet for birdie. But he had only two other makeable chances from a 15-foot range. Hideki Matsuyama has yet to make bogey over 36 holes, even more remarkable because he has been feeling ill this week. He shot 64 and was alone in fourth place, still seven shots behind. Michael Kim had a 66 and was in the group tied for fifth that included Tommy Fleetwood (69), still eight shots behind. Kim needs to finish around this spot to advance to Top-30. Rory McIlroy, playing for the first time since The Open Championship, was paired with Scheffler for two days. He overcame an early double bogey to post a 66, leaving him 10 shots behind. St. Louis Rapid and Blitz: Gukesh slips to tied sixth
St. Louis (USA): World Champion D Gukesh scored one win and four draws to slip to joint sixth spot in the St. Louis Rapid and Blitz chess tournament, a part of the Grand chess tour. Gukesh needs to score massively in the second half as only nine blitz games are left for him to stage a comeback. Levon Aronian of the United States took the sole lead scoring 6/9 and is sitting pretty in the event ahead of overnight leader and compatriot Fabiano Caruana. While Aronian has a total of 19 points Caruana is two points behind him and only a half point ahead of third placed Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France. Uzbek Grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattorov made a comeback of sorts, matching Aronian on points in the blitz and jumped to joint fourth place along side Wesley So of United States with both having 15 points each. Gukesh is a distant sixth on 13 point with Liem Le Quang of Vietnam and these two are three points clear of another American Leinier Dominguez Perez. Grigoriy Oparin improved his position a bit and moved to ninth spot on 9 points, 1.5 ahead of Sam Shankland. For Gukesh the victory came over Dominguez but the four losses in all cost him dearly. Caruana lost three and went winless in blitz after a dazzling show in the rapid section while Aronian lost one won four and drew four enroute to regaining the lead. Vachier-Lagrave was the most solid of them all scoring two wins and seven draws and became the lone player to remain undefeated on the penultimate day of this 175000 USD prize money tournament. Standings with nine rounds of blitz remaining: 1. Aronian 19; 2. Caruana 17; 3, Vachier-Lagrave 16.5; 4-5. Abdusattorov, Wesley 15 each; 6-7. Gukesh, Liem 13 each; 8. Dominguez 10; 9. Oparin 9; 10.
