PM mum on potential Umno meeting over royal addendum
Approached by the media after the groundbreaking ceremony for Kompleks Madani Teluk Kumbar here this afternoon, Anwar said he was on his way back to the capital after a day-long visit to Penang.
"I am just returning from Penang to Kuala Lumpur.
"Then, there is a Unity Retreat in Port Dickson (tomorrow)," he said.
However, when asked further whether he would meet Umno leaders during the retreat, Anwar did not comment.
It was earlier reported that Anwar had said he was open to holding discussions with Umno leaders regarding the royal addendum decree, which would allow the former prime minister to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.
Anwar said several Umno division chiefs had raised the matter and requested a meeting to push for its implementation.

PM Anwar: Change the govt the legal way, don't undermine the Constitution
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim PUTRAJAYA (July 21): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today emphasised that he does not prevent any gathering or criticism of his leadership, including calls for his resignation. However, he asserted that any attempt to change the government must adhere to democratic principles, either through a general election or a vote of no confidence in Parliament. He challenged the opposition to bring a no-confidence motion in the Dewan Rakyat today if they have enough support to change the Mandani Government under his leadership. 'Some say Anwar must step down, to rally (to make me step down). The police gave me a report, and I said, don't block the roads. But when they said they would force the government to change, that sounds odd. They said they don't want an election, and I said that's fine. 'I told the (Dewan Rakyat) Speaker (Tan Sri Johari Abdul) to proceed if there's a motion to be voted on today…I'm waiting for a no-confidence motion. If they have the majority, go ahead. The Cabinet will resign. That's how our system works,' he said during a monthly assembly with staff of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) today. Anwar also questioned the opposition's ability to rally sufficient support to challenge his leadership, affirming that the Mandani Government continues to enjoy strong backing, with a commanding two-thirds majority in Parliament. The prime minister said any effort to topple the government without majority support and not done during the election clearly contradicts the Constitution. 'If there is a no-confidence motion, there must be enough votes. But they (opposition) know it can't be done. Insya Allah, we will hold on strongly, with a two-thirds majority, and we will wait for the election, but they want to oust (Anwar) now. This violates the principles of the Constitution and the law,' he said. He condemned efforts by certain quarters to propagate a narrative of chaos, describing it as a deliberate attempt to incite political instability and public anxiety. 'I remind you, while this government remains tolerant, we will act firmly if the principles of the Federal Constitution are challenged. I want our country to remain peaceful. Why the envy? What has happened?' he said. He expressed concern over some quarters who deliberately instigated chaos, attempting to paint Malaysia as unsafe and its people as living in desperate conditions. He reaffirmed his openness to criticism, including claims that he is ineffective in managing the country or calls for his replacement. However, he strongly rejected any actions or narratives that violate the law and undermine the country's political and economic stability. – Bernama anwar ibrahim leadership no-confidence motion resignation

Anwar refutes claims of failed multibillion-ringgit investments
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has firmly rejected allegations that multibillion-ringgit investments in Malaysia have failed to deliver results. He stressed that these investments, particularly in the manufacturing sector, have significantly contributed to economic growth, job creation, and wage improvements. Anwar revealed that 3,494 manufacturing projects approved by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) between 2021 and June 2025 have seen an 86.4% implementation rate, with 3,095 projects already operational. The annual implementation rates were 90.6% in 2023 and 79.2% in 2024, while the first quarter of 2025 recorded 49.8%. 'Critics ask, 'Where are the results of these billions in investment?' The truth is, 86% of approved projects are up and running,' Anwar stated during the Prime Minister's Department monthly assembly. He directed the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, to publicly share data on operational projects in key regions like Kulim, Johor, Sarawak, Sabah, and the Klang Valley. The prime minister emphasised that these projects, particularly in digital and green industries, have generated 50,000 new jobs in the manufacturing sector in Q1 2025. Additionally, the median wage in the sector rose by 5.4% to RM2,745, aligning with the new minimum wage of RM1,700. Anwar also highlighted the efficiency of the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre (IMFC), established in December 2023, which has processed 28,166 investor applications with a 99.9% resolution rate. These applications covered approvals, permits, foreign worker quotas, utilities, and taxation. 'The civil service's role in facilitating these investments must be acknowledged. Their efficiency ensures that announced policies translate into real outcomes,' he added. – Bernama

Malaysia reduces new debt to RM77 billion in 2024, says PM Anwar
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that the government has successfully lowered annual new debt to RM77 billion in 2024, a significant drop from RM99 billion in 2022. Speaking at the Prime Minister's Department monthly assembly, he emphasised that this achievement aligns with the administration's commitment to prudent fiscal management. 'The new debt incurred was RM99 billion in 2022, dropping to RM93 billion in 2023 and further to RM77 billion in 2024. The government promised to reduce new debt, and we have fulfilled that,' Anwar stated. He dismissed claims that the government was increasing overall debt, clarifying that only interest payments on older debts remain unchanged. Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, highlighted the gradual reduction in the fiscal deficit from 5.5 per cent in 2022 to 4.1 per cent in 2024, with a target of 3.8 per cent this year. He explained that a measured approach ensures development projects and market confidence remain unaffected. 'We manage the national economy like a household. If income is RM5,000 but spending is RM7,000, that's a deficit. Now, we're reducing expenditure step by step,' he said. The Prime Minister also commended Malaysia's improved global competitiveness, noting an 11-place jump to 23rd in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2025. This progress, driven by economic reforms and administrative efficiency, supports the MADANI Economy Framework's goal of placing Malaysia among the top 12 competitive economies by 2033. Anwar cited the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) approval of Malaysia's fiscal reforms, including the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA), as evidence of the government's disciplined approach. – Bernama
