Mash Madness shakes things up
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A signature event in downtown Sioux Falls is set to tip off.
Mash Madness has long been a competition among downtown Sioux Falls craft breweries to see who could create the best original beer.
This March, organizers are shaking things up.
'Still that beer category, however we've added a craft cocktail section and a non-alcoholic/coffee section,' DTSF Marketing Manager Jeb Cooper said.
Jeb Cooper is the marketing manager at DTSF and says last year's field of six businesses has expanded to 29.
'We heard from our member base specifically they've been wanting kind of a cocktail style competition and we figured this was a great place to do it, and then of course for those that don't drink or just enjoy a nice coffee we wanted to give that some room to breathe as well,' Cooper said.
'We're excited to craft something and bring it to the people here downtown,' Lucky's Manager Luke Nohns said.
There are 31 drink options, including this craft cocktail at Lucky's. It's the Key Lime Pie-jito.
'A great spring time drink, plus it's got that green color that we love for Lucky's,' Nohns said.

'It's just a general mix up on a regular Mojito, so we've got the mint in there, but it is rum, we got key lime juice, a little bit of simple syrup on there to sweeten it up, and it's got a little bit of heavy cream on there,' Nohns said.
A drink that not only adds to the variety of Mash Madness, but also gives you another reason to visit downtown Sioux Falls.
'Obviously, people love our restaurants, our bars, and we hope they shop at our retail stores as well while they're down here having a good time,' Cooper said.

Premiere Playhouse holds Dolly Parton costume contest
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – A Dolly Parton costume contest is taking place Friday, June 6, at the Premiere Playhouse (TPP) office from 5-8 p.m. in the Rock Island Plow building. New coffee shop already looking to the future Contestants are asked to show up in their best Dolly Parton costume, fill out a form, and have their photo taken to enter the contest, according to a Facebook post and press release. Those participating will have the chance to win a Season 23 Mainstage Subscription package, ride on the pride parade float, and be crowned 'Queen Dolly.' Voting will be done by TPP staff on June 9, and the top three Dolly's will be notified if they're advancing to the next round. These three winners will be invited to ride on the Playhouse's pride parade float on June 14. Crews respond to fire at Delux Motel on West 12th Street Online, the public can vote on who will win the title of 'Queen Dolly' from June 9 to 20, and the champion will be crowned on the Orpheum Theater stage, before the '9 to 5' show begins on June 21. Flashback Friday: Parading Pets around Phillips Avenue
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – We've been telling you about several different events over the month of June that'll get families out of the house and hitting the streets and parks all around Downtown Sioux Falls. Mitchell residents against Davison County prison site In this week's Flashback Friday, we're going all the way back to 1968 where Keloland's Bill Severtson shows us how a group of kids spent their summer Saturday morning parading their pets along Phillips Avenue. Some mighty unusual traffic moved the wrong way on a one way street in downtown Sioux falls this morning. The slow moving travelers included horses, dogs, cats, hamsters, a fox, and two geese, all in all about 75 assorted refugees from Noah's Ark. Accompanied by 100 young human type companions. It was the annual county pet parade sponsored by the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office and the Sioux Empire Kennel Club. Trophies were awarded Sammy Brett of Sioux Falls for the best decorated float and Richard Mathiesen of Renner for the child with a pet coming the longest distance. And Laurie Blount most unusual pet, a very friendly gray fox. Ribbons were given for just about every category imaginable and everybody went home convinced that their pet was the best in the whole wide world. Bill Severtson, KELOLAND News.
