With the arrival of May comes the most illustrious affair of the fashion calendar: the Met Gala. On the first Monday of the month, the white tent once again envelops the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, ushering in Hollywood's finest for a night where style meets spectacle, and the red carpet becomes a canvas for sartorial storytelling.
This year's theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style , draws from Monica L. Miller's seminal book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity , and is brought to life through an exhibition curated by Miller and The Costume Institute's Andrew Bolton. It charts the evolution of the Black Dandy—from its 18th-century European origins to today's contemporary reinterpretations—honouring the power, poetry, and politics of what we wear.
More than just suits, this dress code asks guests to interpret tailoring in its most expressive form. Think razor-sharp cuts, subversive suiting, and silhouettes that speak to refined rebellion. Co-chaired by Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams and A$AP Rocky, alongside Anna Wintour and honorary chair LeBron James, it's the first all-male panel to helm fashion's grandest occasion.
And now, the curtain lifts. Below, we present every major moment from the Met Gala 2025 red carpet—live from New York. Madonna at 66: The Evolution of a Pop and Fashion Icon

There are pop stars, there are fashion icons, and then there's Madonna — the singular force who's spent four decades shapeshifting through the cultural zeitgeist like it's her personal closet. Born Madonna Louise Ciccone on August 16, 1958, the Michigan native arrived in New York in the late '70s with $35 in her pocket, a dream in her head, and a penchant for taking risks — sartorially, musically, and otherwise. Forty-plus years later, she's still rewriting the rulebook on what a woman in pop (and fashion) can look like, wear, and say. Madonna in New York, 1984. With 'Like a Virgin,' she cemented her image: messy peroxide hair under lace bows, stacks of jelly bracelets, layered rosaries draped over corsets. It was DIY Catholic camp meets downtown punk, a look cobbled together from East Village thrift stores and designer one-offs. Every teenager from Detroit to Tokyo tried to replicate it, proving that 'Madonna wannabes' were not just a phenomenon but a market segment. She didn't just wear clothes; she weaponized them. The Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra at the Blond Ambition Tour became as famous as the setlist. She slipped seamlessly from Hervé Léger bodycon to grunge-era plaid, from Hollywood glamour in Evita press tours to rave-ready Versace chainmail. This was the decade she made power dressing sensual, teaching a generation that minimalism didn't have to be meek. But she balanced her country pursuits with glitterball grandeur in the Confessions on a Dance Floor era: pink leotards, Farrah Fawcett hair, and enough Swarovski crystals to power Studio 54. Here was a woman equally at home on an English estate and under a disco ball — and she wanted you to know it. (Photo by Michael Loccisano via Getty Images) The 2010s to Now: Red Carpets, Rebel Hearts, and Cultural Reckonings Age has never softened Madonna — if anything, it's sharpened her fashion focus. In recent years, she's donned matador jackets at the Grammys, rocked Givenchy couture on the Met Gala steps, and championed a new guard of designers like Willy Chavarria, whose bold suiting and socially charged narratives align with her appetite for statement dressing. She's equally at home in custom Gucci as she is in downtown upstarts, proving she can still spot the next wave before it crests. But the latter part of her career hasn't been without critique. While her impact on fashion and pop culture is undeniable, well-considered debates have emerged around her appropriation of Black and queer cultures — particularly from subcultures like ballroom, which she popularized to mainstream audiences in the 'Vogue' era without fully crediting its originators. Her long history of borrowing from marginalized communities has sparked necessary conversations about cultural exchange versus exploitation, especially in an era that demands greater accountability. In the social media age, where every outfit and gesture is instantly dissected, Madonna remains a master of narrative control. Whether you love or hate what she's wearing — or the statement she's making — you're talking about her. And for Madonna, that's always been the point. The Cultural Legacy Madonna's style isn't just an aesthetic journey — it's a manifesto. Every reinvention has been a statement about autonomy, power, and refusal to be defined by the male gaze or industry ageism. She's paved the way for the likes of Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Dua Lipa, artists who understand that fashion is an extension of the music, a way to push the story forward. Yet her legacy is a complex one. For every groundbreaking moment of self-expression, there are chapters that force a more critical look — moments where her boundary-pushing blurred into cultural appropriation, particularly from Black and queer communities whose influence she has worn, both literally and figuratively. That tension is part of the full picture: a career built on provocation, reinvention, and the constant interplay between admiration and critique. Today, at 66, Madonna has wrapped her Celebration Tour, a retrospective that doubles as a runway for her greatest hits — and, perhaps, a reminder that her reign has always thrived in the grey areas. The lesson? True style icons aren't static. They evolve, they disrupt, they polarize. And whether she's in Gaultier couture or Luar tailoring, Madonna remains exactly what she's always been: impossible to ignore. topics: Madonna, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy, Luar, Tom Ford, Gucci, Vogue, Willy Chavarria, VMAs, grammy awards, Grammys, Pop Icon, pop culture

Harry Styles' Pleasing Brand Just Launched A Very Chic Sex Toy

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – MARCH 14: Harry Styles poses for The 2021 GRAMMY Awards on March 14, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Anthony Pham via Getty Images) Harry Styles has never been one to shy away from a bit of skin or an impassioned pelvic thrust on stage, but the singer's new venture has fans blushing. Hard launching into the sexual wellness arena, the singer's brand, Pleasing, announced its latest innovation: a sleek double-sided vibrator and a silicone-based lube to boot. Co-created with sex educator Zoë Ligon (aka the 'Dildo Duchess'), the project is steeped in the same charm, cheek, and aestheticism that have long defined the Pleasing brand—which, until now, has offered genderless nail polishes, lip tints, fragrances and a collaboration with Jonathan Anderson. Setting you back $111 ($169AUD approx.), the Pleasing Double-Sided Vibrator is an elegant, dual-ended tool for solo or shared exploration. According to the brand's website, 'the handle doubles as an insertable vibrator while also functioning comfortably for external play,' and the nobbed end is designed for external stimulation 'anywhere craving extra attention.' The Pleasing Double-Sided Vibrator / Image credit: Pleasing Meanwhile, the lubricant 'offers long-lasting moisture and a silky glide with zero glycerin,' per the description. 'The idea of Pleasing Yourself is at the heart of the Pleasing brand and a part of our ethos from the very beginning,' says Harry Lambert, creative director of Pleasing and Styles' long-term collaborator. 'This next step felt like such a natural progression, especially as something our community has been asking for from the get-go. It's something we're proud to embrace and speak about openly.' As ever, Styles is front and centre (kind of) to drum up the campaign hype. A sensuous teaser video posted to Instagram features him whispering the product's tagline, 'Please yourself like you mean it,' while phones buzz with anticipation. More significantly, the brand has teamed with Planned Parenthood Federation of America, offering co-created educational content, custom condoms, and funding to further accessible sex education. And while Aussies may be left a little unsatisfied for now—currently, the vibrator ships only to the US and UK—Pleasing assures global fans they're working fast to broaden availability.

Kim Kardashian Dons An Archival Mugler Bodysuit With A Barely There Waist

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to a dizzyingly tight corset, often leaving onlookers in varied states of awe, shock, and at times wincing in sympathy. This time around, the Skims founder is showing off an archival Mugler find, one which would not have looked out of place on a villainous femme fatale. The look, posted to her Instagram this week, consisted of a sheer full sleeved bodysuit and connected stockings, which both featured symmetrical sequin bands crawling up the mesh material. The bodysuit also featured a structured bodice and a jaw-grazing high neck which only served to heighten the enveloping feel of the look. Kardashian paired the ensemble with a large fur coat, straight from the original runway where the look debuted in 1998. From her hotel room fitting, she shared the snaps with the caption, 'Mugler Magic.' This is far from the socialite's first venture into bodices which take our (and one would imagine her) breath away. Just last year, Kardashian attended the 2024 Met Gala in a Maison Margiela look consisting of a silver applique corseted gown, paired with a cozy grey cardigan. A few years prior in 2019, she attended the same event in another Mugler creation; a custom wet-look latex dress which was corseted to unreal proportions. On that note, these looks definitely lean more towards performance pieces than attainable style inspiration. The reality star herself provided a glimpse into what wearing one of these bodices entails last year on an episode of The Kardashians. Filmed on the day of 2024 Met Gala, the episode showed Kardashian panicking and trying to remove the corset after the event. 'I am claustrophobic. I've never felt this way before, where I feel like I can't breathe,' she recounted in a confessional. She continued, 'I was like I'm going to die if you don't get this off of me right now.' So, while we all love a sartorial moment which simultaneously serves as a display of artful construction, we'll leave these displays to the celebrities.
