22 nurses receive Best Nursing Personnel awards in Chennai
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, who presented the awards, also inaugurated the centenary celebrations of TNNMC. He released the logo of the council on the occasion.
Over 2.5 lakh members of the TNNMC were engaged in medical service not only in Tamil Nadu but also all over the world, he said.
'From being the foundation of the rural health system, to serving as the frontline warriors who save humanity in times of pandemic, disaster, and war, nurses are always worthy of admiration," the Deputy CM said in a post on the social media platform 'X'.
Speaking after giving away the awards, Udhayanidhi said the presence of nurses gave one a great sense of self-confidence and security because every child born in the world sees the face of the nurse before he/she sees his own mother.
The role of nurses was unique and cannot be forgotten, he said, and lauded their service. 'You all know that our Chief Minister (M K Stalin), who was admitted in hospital, returned home yesterday. I express my gratitude to the doctors, and most importantly, the nurses like you," Udhayanidhi said.
He recalled that the council was started during the rule of the Justice Party, precursor to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, in 1926. Similar to the nursing community, which vaccinated people from diseases, the Dravidian movement leaders like Periyar Ramasamy, and former Chief Ministers: C N Annadurai and M Karunanidhi, went from village to village to spread rational ideas to solve the diseases that gripped society.

12 labourers injured as landslide hits hydel project site in Ukhands Chamoli
Gopeshwar, Aug 2 (PTI) Twelve labourers were on Saturday injured when a landslide hit the THDC's Vinshnugad Hydro-electricity project site near Helang in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, an official said. District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said that there were around 300 labourers at work at the project site when the landslide occurred. They ran for life as a rock began to roll down from a hill. Eight of them sustained minor injuries, while four were seriously injured, he added. The district magistrate said that all injured labourers were admitted to Vivekanand Hospital in Pipalkoti. One of them has got a fracture in the leg, while another labourer on whom a spinal MRI needs to be done is being taken in an ambulance to a hospital in Srinagar in Pauri district, he added. Tiwari said the MRI report will reveal the severity of his injury. The district magistrate further said that there were around 70 labourers present on the spot where the landslide occurred, adding the work has been suspended for the time being at the project site. 'THDC has been asked to resume work at the site only after ensuring the safety of those at work," he said. The THDC is building a barrage to stop the water of Alaknanda river from Helang near Joshimath. The water of Alaknanda river from this barrage will be brought to Pipalkoti through a tunnel where electricity is to be generated through turbines. Earlier in 2021, the barrage side was damaged due to flood in Alaknanda river. BMRCL facilitates Bengalurus first ever organ transportation by metro
Last Updated: Bengaluru, Aug 2 (PTI) For the first time since its inception, Namma Metro facilitated the transportation of a donated human liver for transplant, the BMRCL said on Saturday. On August 1, at about 8.38 pm, the liver was securely transferred via ambulance from Vydehi Hospital to Whitefield Metro Station, accompanied by a doctor and seven medical staff, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said in a release. Upon arrival, the team was received by an Assistant Security Officer (ASO) and Metro personnel, who coordinated the documentation and necessary security checks, it added. The liver was then transported on a train that departed Whitefield metro station at 8.42 pm and arrived at Rajarajeshwarinagar Metro Station at 9.48 pm. Another ASO and Metro staff received the medical team and ensured a seamless transfer to a waiting ambulance. The organ was safely delivered to Sparsh Hospital in time for the critical transplant, the release said. The operation followed the guidelines of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Joint Procedure Order (JPO) of the BMRCL. According to the release, this is the second time in the country that a metro train is being used for organ transportation. On January 18, Hyderabad Metro Rail created a dedicated 'green channel", between Kamineni Hospitals in LB Nagar and Gleneagles Global Hospital in Lakdikapul, to facilitate the swift transportation of a donor heart. NEET PG 2025 Tomorrow; Check Exam-Day Guidelines, Documents Needed
