Stalin woos youth, says DMK govt working for their uplift
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin made a strong pitch to woo youth towards DMK in the upcoming assembly elections. He announced govt would start giving laptops to college students, countering AIADMK's charges of DMK halting the free laptop scheme. "Youth are the foundation of Tamil society. Primary goal of the Dravidian model govt is to enable growth of youth. This govt is for the youth," Stalin said on Wednesday after distributing appointment orders to around 2,300 youth recruited through state municipal administration department. "Since education alone is not enough, govt is creating job opportunities as well," Stalin said, adding that more than one lakh youth were given jobs through TNPSC, TRB and TNUSB, more than three lakh jobs were provided through Naan Mudhalvan scheme while another 2.65 lakh got employment through job fairs organised by labour department. As a result of 941 MoUs signed over the past four years, attracting 10lakh crore in investments, more than two lakh jobs have been generated, he said. Stalin said govt was also creating a conducive environment for attracting investments, which spurs economic growth resulting in job creation to benefit youth. "Peaceful ambience, proper maintenance of law and order, skillful youth, requisite infrastructure and schemes rolled out with foresight are helping TN remain on top," he said. Efforts have begun for generation of more jobs in Dravidian model govt 2.0 too after 2026, he added. Political analyst A Ramasamy said such initiatives consolidate DMK's support base. "Schemes such as Naan Mudhalvan mainly attract students from economically disadvantaged groups. These programmes targeting youth are helping the party consolidate its base," he said. However, professor and economist Krishna Raj said the job figures required closer scrutiny. "Filling one lakh govt vacancies is good. But where are the remaining jobs that were created? If these are in the industrial or informal sector, they may lack social security, insurance or benefits," he said.

CM: TN has double digit growth of 11.19%
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin said TN has become the fastest growing state in the country overcoming multiple challenges. Citing a Union ministry of statistics report, Stalin said on Wednesday that TN's economic growth rate has touched 11.19%, surging past the previous estimate of 9.69%. State has achieved the double digit growth rate after 14 years, he said after distributing appointment orders to youth recruited by state municipal administration department. "We have reached the milestone after crossing multiple hurdles and slander," Stalin said. He said DMK would not remain content with this accomplishment, but would take efforts to reach higher up, through concerted efforts in Dravidian model govt 2.0. It's too ambitious, they said. But with growth like this, what once seemed distant is now well within reach," he posted on X. State finance minister Thangam Thennarasu attributed the double-digit growth rate to financial prudence. "Double digit growth rate in real terms is yet another feather in the hat of Dravidian model govt. The growth was possible due to our financial prudence. We have not only boosted our GSDP but boosted the economy of the country as well," Thennarasu told reporters at Anna Arivalayam.

No guarantee of peaceful living under Stalin-led DMK government, says EPS
The people of Tamil Nadu are living in fear under the Stalin-led DMK government as there is no guarantee for their peaceful living, including the police, with a Sub-Inspector getting murdered by thugs at will, says AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Addressing the people during his 'Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagahthtai Meetpom' campaign at Kadayanallur on Wednesday, Mr. Palaniswami said Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has failed to concentrate on maintaining law and order in the State despite sharp criticism by the public and repeated complaints from the Opposition parties. Even though drug abuse had been the root cause for most of the dreadful crimes happening in Tamil Nadu, the DMK government has taken no step to crush this drug cartel ever since it assumed office in 2021. Even as multiple power centres were controlling the police, the public has been left at the mercy of the anti-social elements orchestrating heinous crimes like brutal murders, sexual assaults on children and the elderly women and also murder for gain. 'The murder of a Sub-Inspector on Tuesday night is a classic example of the worsening law and order situation in Tamil Nadu now under the incapable leadership of Mr. Stalin. When the police, who have to protect the people, are being murdered, what will happen to innocent people, especially women and children?,' Mr. Palaniswami asked asserting that during his tenure he had given complete freedom to the police to ensure the rule of law. He also came down heavily on the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai for comparing Gujarat with Tamil Nadu in substance abuse and dug smuggling. 'Since you are from Tamil Nadu and heading the State unit of a political party, just concentrate on the wellbeing of your State instead of poking your nose in some other far-off State,' he said. Mr. Palaniswami recalled that Tamil Nadu was peaceful and the Tamils were living in peace during the 31-year-long AIADMK rule as the police were allowed to function as per law. 'There was no heinous crime during our rule. There was no religious and caste clash in Tamil Nadu whenever AIADMK was in power as troublemakers were crushed mercilessly. The religious minorities were safe. Now, the troublemakers are in power and hence the police cannot discharge their duty in accordance with law,' the former Chief Minister said. As Kadayanallur has a huge population of Muslims, he listed the welfare schemes implemented by his government for religious minorities like hike in honorarium for ulemas, allocation of funds for constructing 'Hajj House' in Chennai etc. He also blasted the DMK for increasing taxes payable to the government, power tariff etc. and abandoning various welfare schemes introduced in the AIADMK regime. 'We will reintroduce all these welfare schemes as we will return to power in 2026 with your support,' said Mr. Palaniswami, who also addressed similar meetings at Puliyangudi and Sankarankovil
