KCR skips state foundation day event, Kavitha holds separately
Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha stayed away from the 12th Telangana formation day celebrations on Monday at Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters. Meanwhile, the member of legislative council held the celebrations separately at the Telangana Jagruthi office adjacent to her residence.
The former chief minister's son and BRS working president KT Rama Rao took part in the celebrations along with non-resident Telanganites at Frisco, Texas in USA.
At a meeting of NRIs at Frisco in Texas state, KTR said his party was committed to the development of Telangana irrespective of whether it was in power or in the opposition. He exuded confidence that the party would return to power in Telangana and KCR would return as the chief minister after three years.
He recalled KCR's struggle for 13 long years to achieve statehood for Telangana region and also the sacrifices of thousands of people for the cause. 'The BRS always carried the spirit of the Telangana movement which was evident through all its development and welfare initiatives,' he said.
At the Telangana Bhavan, senior BRS leader and party's opposition leader in the legislative council S Madhusudhana Chary unfurled the national flag and the BRS flag. Several senior leaders including KCR's nephew and former minister T Harish Rao, other MLAs, MLCs, and activists at the party headquarters took part in the celebrations.
The party leaders paid floral tributes to Telangana Thalli statue, prof K Jayashankar, and people who died for the formation of Telangana. They raised Jai Telangana, Jai KCR slogans and cut a commemorative cake to mark the occasion.
Similar celebrations were held in all the party offices across the district, mandal and constituency headquarters in Telangana.
At the Telangana Jagruthi party office in Banjara Hills, K Kavitha unfurled the national and Telangana Jagruthi flags. She, however, did not unfurl the BRS flag. She expressed pride in hoisting the flags for the first time at the new office.
Reflecting on the Telangana movement, she highlighted the profound sacrifices made by countless families, especially the mothers who lost their children in the struggle. 'Telangana state has become a reality only because of the determined leadership and political foresight of KCR,' she said.

Hyderabad: Stating that the Congress govt was spreading misinformation about the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) mainly to discredit the previous BRS regime, former minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao asserted that Kaleshwaram is the lifeline of Telangana. Kaleshwaram is not just the Medigadda barrage alone, he added. According to the irrigation department, the Kaleshwaram project has irrigated 20.33 lakh acres, with 98,000 acres of new ayacut created since its inauguration. However, CM Revanth Reddy and irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy have been quoting different figures on the area irrigated under Kaleshwaram, with some even claiming that not a single new acre was brought under cultivation. Harish Rao, who held the irrigation portfolio during the first term of the BRS govt (2014–2018), dismissed allegations regarding the shifting of the Kaleshwaram project location from Thummidihatti to Medigadda, the cost escalation, the actual ayacut created, and other related issues. He stated that while two piers at Medigadda had sunk, the Congress govt was using that incident to label the entire Kaleshwaram project a failure. "Let me set the record straight: Kaleshwaram is not just Medigadda. It comprises three barrages, 15 reservoirs, 21 pump houses, 19 substations, 203 km of tunnels, 141 tmcft of storage capacity, and 240 tmcft of water utilisation," the former minister said. Harish Rao explained that the BRS govt shifted the project location from Thummidihatti to Medigadda due to the lack of water availability. The earlier Pranahitha-Chevella project, he said, was designed for just 11 tmcft, whereas the Kaleshwaram project was planned for 141 tmcft. "The Congress is claiming that higher paddy production was achieved without Kaleshwaram. But the project has three sources — one is the SRSP flood flow canal up to Mid Manair, the second is water from Kadam to Yellampally, and the third is Medigadda, which is used to lift water during dry spells. Cultivation has been taken up under reservoirs like Annapurna Sagar, Ranganayaka Sagar, Mallanna Sagar, and Kondapochamma Sagar," he said. He added that the KLIS cost increased due to the addition of more components and expansion of ayacut. Harish Rao accused the previous Congress govt (2007–2014) of grossly mismanaging the Pranahitha-Chevella project. "Despite having governments at the Centre, in Maharashtra, and in undivided Andhra Pradesh, the Congress could not secure approvals for Tummidihatti. They spent ₹2,328 crore without achieving any results and misused ₹1,052 crore, as per the CAG report. Leaders like Komatireddy, Uttam, and Sridhar Babu were in charge, while Revanth Reddy — then in the TDP — called it a 'Dhana Yagna,'" he said. The ex-minister further stated that Congress initially estimated the Pranahitha-Chevella project cost at Rs 17,875 crore, later raised it to Rs 38,500 crore without completing any work, and finally proposed Rs 40,286 crore to the Centre. Uttam Kumar Reddy's claim that Rs 10,000 crore was spent was false, as only Rs 3,724 crore was actually used, he said. Former minister and BRS leader Harish Rao has issued a robust defence of the Kaleshwaram project following criticisms. Presenting a detailed PowerPoint at Telangana Bhavan, Rao highlighted that the project has successfully supplied water to a total of 2.033 million acres. Rao noted that discussions regarding the project proceeded without any objections from Maharashtra, stating that he engaged with Maharashtra representatives to address concerns within 45 days of the government's formation. He said that the Kaleshwaram project encompasses three barrages, fifteen reservoirs, nineteen substations, twenty-one pump houses, 203 kilometres of tunnels, 1,531 kilometres of gravity canals, 98 kilometres of pressure mains, and a storage capacity of 141 TMC, with water lifts reaching heights of 530 metres. "Initially designed to source water from Tammidihati to Yellampalli, the project was relocated to Medigadda due to reduced water availability at Tammidihati. The Medigadda barrage was constructed in seven blocks and supported by 85 piers," Rao said Rao responded to Congress claims that farming had succeeded without Kaleshwaram, asserting that it is this very project that facilitated crop production in the Yasangi season. He emphasised that water availability via the project is sourced from three different locations, capable of filling thousands of tanks. "Everything built from Medigadda to Mallanna Sagar is operational," he added. The canal associated with the Kaleshwaram project alone is projected to provide water for 90,000 acres of land.

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday alleged that the BRS leaders, when they were in power, looted the state like bandits. Referring to BRS MLC K Kavitha's recent remarks against her own party leaders, he said: 'Even their own family members are now exposing the BRS leaders.' The deputy CM was addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation for 12 sub-stations at Devarakadra. He emphasised that real democracy is being upheld now with funds being spent on public welfare under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Efforts are being made to transform Telangana into a globally competitive state, he added. After laying the stone for 12 sub-stations, he said that the government will fast-track the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme works by releasing required funds. He also announced that funds for R&R and land acquisition would be released immediately. 'The gap between the Narlapur and Edula reservoirs will be filled with necessary funding,' he said and recalled that when `70 crore was needed for the Uddandapur R&R package, the government released them without any hesitation. Referring to Krishna river water, he said the people of Palamuru region dreamed of utilising these waters, which is why they demanded a separate state. 'But during their 10-year rule, the previous rulers couldn't provide irrigation even to a single acre,' he said. The deputy CM also said that all major irrigation projects in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district — Jurala, Koilsagar, Bheema, Nettempadu, and Kalwakurthy — were completed by the Congress governments. 'If the previous Congress government had given permission for the Palamuru-Rangareddy project, then in June 2015, KCR laid the foundation at Karivena and promised to complete it in three years. It's been 10 years... why couldn't he provide water?' he asked. Vikramarka hailed the free RTC bus travel scheme for women across the state and wondered why the 'financially sound' BRS government failed to implement it earlier. He said the current people's government aims to turn one crore women into crorepatis within five years. 'As part of this, within the first year of our rule, `21,000 crore interest-free loans have been given to self-help groups.' he said. 'You don't need to be an MLA to do business or get contracts,' he said and added, 'You need to elect MLAs who will raise the people's voice in the Assembly and protect democratic values. I congratulate the people of Mahbubnagar for electing such representatives.'
