Bengaluru Stampede case: CAT quashes Bengaluru cop's suspension, slams govt over ‘mechanical' action
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had, on June 5, announced the suspension of police officers holding them responsible for the stampede that occurred during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 which left 11 persons dead and scores of fans injured.
A CAT bench consisting of Justice BK Shrivastava and member Santosh Mehra, while asking the government to reinstate Vikash Kumar immediately, noted that the order of suspensions of police officers had been done 'in a mechanical manner,' and it is 'not based upon the convincing materials. 'At the time of passing of the suspension order, the CAT order noted, there was no convincing material showing the 'default or negligence' of the police officers concerned.

The KSCA submitted a letter which did not contain any request for permission to make the arrangements for the victory celebrations. The letter only gave information regarding the intention. 'Therefore, it was not expected from the police that upon the basis of a letter submitted before the station in-charge of one police station, the police will make all of the arrangements all of a sudden,' the order said.
'We also feel our duty to draw attention of the state government towards the settled principle of law that where a citizen aggrieved by an action of government department has approached the court and obtain a declaration of law in his/her favour, other similarly situated ought to be extended the benefit without the need for them to come to court,' the bench said referring to the suspension of Dayananda and Shekar Tekkannavar.

Kolkata: Hundreds of BJP supporters on Wednesday afternoon marched down a 3-km route from Rashbehari crossing to the law college where a first-year student was gang-raped a week ago. The rally took place after the organisers — Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of BJP – obtained permission from the Calcutta High Court to protest against the sexual assault. Considering the commuters' woes, the HC had asked the police to ensure that the breadth of rallies must be restricted to a third of the road. Fireworks unit blast: Families protest demanding higher compensation
Virudhunagar: Tension prevailed at the Virudhunagar Govt Medical College Hospital on Wednesday as families of victims killed in the fireworks factory blast near Sattur held a protest, refusing to receive the bodies until enhanced compensation was assured. Eight workers were killed in the explosion at a private unit in Chinnakamanpatti owned by a Sivakasi-based operator. While postmortem was completed for all victims, families of five workers — Ramajeyam, Naga Pandi, Lakshmi, Chellapandi, and Punniyamurthi — sat on the road outside the hospital demanding 10 lakh compensation each from the state. After revenue and police officials intervened, the body of Punniyamurthi was received, but others continued their protest and later were dispersed by the police. The incident triggered sharp political responses. CPI(M) state secretary P Shanmugam urged the state govt to immediately disburse 20 lakh to the families, in line with the National Green Tribunal (NGT)'s earlier directive for blast victims, and an additional 10 lakh from the factory management. City court sentences 5 men to life in prison in 2017 murder case
1 2 Jaipur: A city court sentenced five men to life imprisonment for the murder of Gaurav alias Goldy, who was gunned down outside Mahatma Gandhi hospital on Aug 4, 2017. The verdict was delivered Tuesday by the Additional District Judge No 11 who found all five accused guilty after a trial based on forensic and ballistic evidence. According to Vipul Sharma, the counsel for the complainant in the case, the murder took place following a confrontation that erupted from an earlier dispute in which Gaurav, accompanied by Narayan Swami and a man named Deepak, went to meet the group to resolve the matter. During the altercation, Kulvendra alias Kullu shot Gaurav twice with an illegal pistol. After Gaurav collapsed, Deepak was also physically assaulted. Witnesses said one of the assailants shouted orders to kill Gaurav, who was later rushed to hospital but declared dead on arrival. A case was registered at Sanganer Sadar police station and a charge sheet was filed against Kulvendra, Sunil alias Lovely, Pachveer alias Pajji, Jitendra alias Tiger, and Pritam Lalwani under IPC sections 302, 147, 149, 120B, and provisions of the Arms Act. The court held them accountable for abetting the crime. Complainant's counsel Vipul Sharma said the court's decision was based on strong forensic and ballistic evidence and that the ruling upheld the legal principle that participation in an unlawful assembly with a common objective is sufficient for conviction, even if the individual did not personally commit the act of violence. Kulvendra was also previously sentenced to life imprisonment in another case involving the murder of a prisoner inside Central Jail Ghatgate while he was in judicial custody.
