PM urges people to choose India-made goods

Time of India27-05-2025

Dahod: Prime Minister
Narendra Modi
called on the people of the country to start using goods that are made in India. Addressing a gathering in Dahod, he said that even on Ganesh Chaturthi, a Ganpati idol with small eyes made abroad was used instead of a Ganpati made in our country.
The PM was in Dahod to begin work on or inaugurate a series of projects, worth Rs 24,000 crore, including the inauguration of a railway electric locomotive unit built with an investment of Rs 21,000 crore. The PM reached Dahod after holding a roadshow in Vadodara. The Valsad-Dahod Intercity Express was also flagged off on the occasion. This was the PM's first visit to the state after
Operation Sindoor
.
Speaking in Dahod, Modi lauded how the country was manufacturing not only for its own needs but for exports too.
He said that the country was exporting smartphones, cars, toys, arms and medicines today. He noted how the country, which was once importing equipment for railways, was now contributing to the development of technology, manufacturing and exporting goods related to railways and metros. He added that Dahod was an example of these developments.
Modi said made-in-India goods are making waves around the world and called on the gathering to use things made in our country and give up foreign goods.

"Shouldn't we stop using foreign goods in our homes?" he asked. He urged the people to reply loudly and wave the tricolour while doing so. When the audience agreed with him, Modi said that they should keep in mind that they were saying this under the shadow of the tricolour.
Modi said that on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, we brought 'Ganpati idols with small eyes'. "We get not our Ganpati, but foreign Ganpati. When Holi or Diwali come, we buy crackers and pichkaris made abroad," he said.
Notably, former defence minister late Manohar Parrikar once said that the eyes of Ganpati idols made in China were narrower.
Modi asked the audience if they shouldn't ensure that people from the country earned money. "Isn't this pledge (of using goods made in India) needed from all Indians if the country wants to progress?" the PM said.
On Operation Sindoor, Modi said that after what the terrorists did in Pahalgam, could India have kept quiet? "Could Modi have kept quiet? Whoever erases sindoor from the foreheads of our sisters will be erased," Modi said.
He added that the operation was not merely a military operation but an expression of the values and emotions of people.
"They had challenged 140 crore Indians, and he (Modi) did what the country had given him the responsibility for," the PM said. He added that for what the terrorists did on April 22, they were turned to dust in 22 minutes. Referring to Pakistan, Modi said that the only aim of the country born after partition was to have enmity with India and harm India.

‘Shows apathy': Allahabad HC raps UP government for delay in disbursing Kumbh stampede compensation

The Allahabad High Court on Friday said that the delay in disbursing compensation to the families of those who died during a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela pilgrimage site in Prayagraj showed the Uttar Pradesh government's 'apathy to the plight of the citizens', Live Law reported. A bench of Justices Saumitra Dayal Singh and Sandeep Jain also directed the state government to furnish details of the deaths and medical handling of those who died or were injured between January 28 and the end of the pilgrimage. The Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state was also told to submit details of the number of compensation claims it had received and settled, and those that are pending. The stampede had broken out at the Maha Kumbh on January 29 as a large number of pilgrims arrived to take a holy bath on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, a spiritually significant day in the Hindu calendar. The state government has said that at least 30 persons were killed and 60 others were injured, although several media reports have suggested that the actual toll could be significantly higher. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath had announced financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh for those who died in the stampede. The court was hearing a plea filed by the husband of one of the persons who died. It expressed concern that the woman's body had been handed over to her family without a postmortem being conducted. The judges took note of the serious injuries reported on the woman, including a crushed rib cage, and questioned the lack of official documentation or communication with the family regarding the cause and circumstances of the death, Live Law reported. The bench directed that medical institutions and authorities in Prayagraj be made parties to the petitions and directed them to file affidavits disclosing details of all patients and dead bodies that may have been brought to the facilities and those dispatched by them between the incident and the end of the Mela. The bench was alarmed that the woman's body was handed over to the family in February but compensation was yet to be provided, according to Live Law.

No more visa fee waivers: Kuwait imposes standard KD150 charge across all sectors

Photo: Pexels In a significant overhaul of its labour market framework, Kuwait has officially ended fee exemptions for work visa transfers, introducing a standard KD150 charge for each work permit issued across a wide range of sectors. The policy change was enacted under Ministerial Resolution No. 4 of 2025, announced on Thursday, June 6, by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahd Al Youssef. The move marks a major shift in Kuwait's approach to labour regulation, aimed at tightening oversight and eliminating preferential treatment for specific industries. Key repeals and new requirements At the core of the change is the repeal of Article 2 of the 2024 resolution, which had previously allowed exemptions from work permit fees for certain sectors, depending on manpower requirements approved by the Public Authority for Manpower. With the exemption lifted, all work permits issued under previously exempted categories will now incur the KD150 fee, assessed on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, Article 5 of the 2024 resolution has been abolished, removing the requirement for the Public Authority for Manpower's Board of Directors to conduct a one-year impact assessment before implementing the fee structure. This eliminates the need for any further formal review or recommendation process. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo These adjustments also modify earlier provisions under Ministerial Resolution No. 3 of 2024, further streamlining the issuance and transfer of work permits and standardising related fees. Sectors now affected by the KD150 fee The newly standardised fee applies to a broad spectrum of public and private sector organisations, including: Government-owned companies Hospitals, clinics, and medical centres licensed by the Ministry of Health Private universities, colleges, and schools Foreign investors accredited by the Investment Promotion Authority Sports clubs and federations Public benefit associations, charities, endowments, labour unions, and cooperative societies Licensed agricultural operations, including hunting, livestock pens, sheep and camel grazing Commercial and investment properties Industrial facilities and small-scale industries Previously, these sectors were exempted from paying additional fees, contingent on staffing needs evaluated by the Public Authority for Manpower. A broader push for labour market standardisation The new fee structure is part of Kuwait's wider effort to unify labour regulations and eliminate inconsistencies across sectors. The KD150 fee will now apply uniformly to each work permit issued or transferred, regardless of sector or employer classification. By scrapping exemptions once granted to entities like hospitals, schools, agricultural operations, and charitable organisations, the government aims to close regulatory loopholes and ensure equal treatment in how foreign labour is managed. The repeal of Article 5, previously mandating a one-year impact study, also signals a move toward faster implementation of reforms without further delay or discretionary reviews, reinforcing a shift to more centralised and uniform oversight.
