THIS is the new Kia EV6, but at first glance you'd be hard pushed to tell it apart from the previous generation.
There are a few changes and improvements, with the most noticeable exterior tweaks at the front, as the EV6 comes with sleek daytime running lights plus a light bar that flows across the whole bonnet.

They're all part of Kia's 'Star Map' lighting signature, with more in the rear lights too.
There are new alloys and a raft of fancy colours, but the biggest changes are under the skin and inside.
The EV6 is still a great-looking SUV, with its futuristic looks standing the test of time.
It's not as polarising-looking as it was when introduced in 2021 now that they are common sights on our roads.

The EV6 is equipped with Kia's new fourth-gen battery.
With higher energy density, the capacity has increased from 77.4kWh to 84kWh.
As you'd expect, this translates into a higher range, with Kia quoting a figure up to 582km.
While using a fast DC charger the maximum I got was 488km, but at home on a 7.4kW wallbox, expect that to increase.

Thanks to 800V battery tech, peak fast charging is up from 239kW to 350kW.
But even though I was supposed to be topping up the EV6 at a rate of 150kW, the fastest speed I could draw from the public charger was 78.5kW — still fast, but not as fast as advertised.
However, if you do find a charger capable of running at those speeds, the EV6 battery can be recharged from 10-80 per cent in just 18 minutes.

Power comes from a rear-mounted 168kW electric motor that produces 225bhp and 350Nm of torque, so a leisurely sprint from 0-100kph takes 7.7 seconds and it has a 185kph top speed.
In the UK you can opt for a dual-motor, all-wheel drive version with 320bhp but sadly not in Ireland and just released is the 631bhp EV6 GT, but that might not be coming here either.
As before, the driving modes are Eco, Normal, Sport, My Drive and Snow. And Sport really does liven things up.

Plus Kia has tweaked the damping settings to deliver improved stability.
It does feel more nimble and smooth on the road, with good grip.

Mayo records 64pc spike in electric vehicle registrations

A total of 194 electric vehicles were registered in the county between January and July 2025, compared to 118 in the same period in 2024 but the figure remains low out of the total number of new cars. In total, 1,887 new vehicles were registered in Mayo between January and July, a 5.89pc increase on the 1,782 new vehicles registered in the same period last year. Registrations year to date are up 3.7pc (108,531) on the same period last year (104,655), according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry's (SIMI) official 252 new vehicle registration statistics for July. So far this year, 18,542 new electric cars have been registered, representing a 33.7pc increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 13,866 electric cars were registered. In July 4,913 new electric cars (battery electric cars) were registered, which was 57pc higher than the 3,129 registrations in July 2024. The top-selling brands of electric vehicles for 2025 are, in order, starting with the highest; the Volkswagen ID4, the Kia EV3, the Tesla Model 3, the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Inster. In the new car market share by engine type for 2025, petrol cars continue as the new car market leader at 26.90pc, followed by hybrid (petrol electric) at 22.72pc, diesel at 17.13pc, electric at 17.08pc, and plug-in electric hybrid at 14.71pc. Commenting on the electric vehicle sales figures, Brian Cooke, SIMI Director General, said the country had surpassed the 175,000 (BEV & PHEV combined) electric vehicles target for 2025 contained in the Government's Climate Action Plan. 'This important landmark on the road to electrification could not have been achieved without the significant levels of Government incentives,' said Mr Cooke. 'If we want to continue this momentum, these supports must be maintained and extended well beyond the end of this year. Light commercial vehicle sales, which had been disappointing during Q1, have bounced back since then, with the July LCV market up 23pc on last year, and are now less than 1pc behind 2024 year to date. Heavy goods vehicle (HGV) registrations are down 19pc in July and down 11pc year to date. The mixed results and market fluctuations in the commercial sector reflect the current economic and political uncertainty.'

Kia EV6 GT is a ridiculously fast SUV that even boils your kettle – but can it beat a £158k Porsche 911 in a drag race?

YOU join us at Santa Pod drag strip for a little 'run what ya brung' showdown. That's Sully in his box-fresh 5 The new Kia G6 took on a Golf R and a Porsche 911 GT3 5 The newly-updated EV6 GT is faster than before 5 The EV6 GT smoked the others, doing 11.165 seconds and 124mph on the iconic Santa Pod gantry Credit: Ian Roman Nosh with his dreamy Nice cars. Very nice cars. Except I'm going to smoke them in a read more on motors Then make a cup of tea with it afterwards. Don't get me wrong, the Sully's got 333 horses to play with and sticky four-wheel drive to go round significant corners at considerable speeds. But we're doing a quarter-mile drag race here, buddy. Most read in Motors Eat my rubber. What can I say about Nosh's Porker? Dang. Inside Kia's refreshed Sportage including comfy cabin, punchy new looks and driving mode young families will love The noise — 510 horses, manual gearbox, red lines at 9,000rpm. No rear wing. Absolute weapon. Just stay away from those concrete barriers, eh, Noshy lad. They look hungry. Right, let's hit you with some times. The Golf R's quickest run was 12.5 seconds, reaching 110mph. The 911 edged it with 12.2 seconds and 119mph. Then it was my turn in Kia's EV6 GT. When electric cars accelerate — even the cheaper ones — they leave your head buried in the back of the headrest. This one, with 641 horses and 770Nm of torques, scrambles your eggs. Needless to say, we blitzed the £158k Porker by more than a second, flashing up 11.165 seconds and 124mph on the iconic Wallop. 5 The EV6 GT is faster than before, goes further, and recharges quicker Credit: Ian Roman With more road in front of us, like an unrestricted autobahn, we could have kept on pushing to a very un-Kia-like 161mph. New virtual gearshift technology adds simulated gear changes and fake engine sounds if you want them. Otherwise just pin it to win it. My new friend Nosh, an architect from Manchester, was clearly impressed. He said: 'It's amazing isn't it, ridiculously fast. "Eventually, when we have to, I'll probably get one. 'But I'm going to enjoy a manual gearshift and loud engines for as long as I can.' Fair play. He's owned some tasty motors over the years including a Ferrari 430 Scuderia and Porsche 930 Turbo 'Widowmaker'. Right, back on topic. Not only is the newly-updated EV6 GT faster than before, it goes further, recharges more quickerly — like 18 minutes — and the cabin's been given some love too. OUT goes the glossy piano black, replaced by less smudgy brushed plastic. IN comes lots of cool neon-green detailing. The twin-screen dash carries all the latest tech. You can use the car's power supply to boil a kettle or inflate an air bed on festival weekends. Last observation. Price. EV6 GT is actually £2,690 cheaper than before at £59,985. For a better car. Kia is going to take some catching at this rate.
