Oasis convinced to reunite by one star after years of pleas to Noel and Liam
Oasis fans can't wait to see Noel and Liam Gallagher back in action when their tour kicks off in July after the brothers' bitter feud left them estranged for 16 years
Liam and Noel Gallagher sent fans into a frenzy when they announced they were reuniting last year and now it's been revealed who was behind the plan to get the band back together. The long-feuding brothers barely spoke for 16 years amid a bitter war of words between the Don't Look Back In Anger stars.
Oasis fans had just about given up hope that they would ever see the stars together on stage again. However, after years of radio silence, the band announced that they were embarking on a world tour and it's all, reportedly, thanks to Noel's daughter, Anais. Anais, 25, whose mum is former It girl, Meg Matthews, is good pals with Liam's sons, Lennon and Gene and is said to have spoken to her cousins about getting their dad back in the rehearsal room with Noel.
Following Noel's split from ex-wife, Sara McDonald in 2023, a source told The Sun: 'Anais was one of the biggest sources of comfort and support for Noel following his divorce. She was the one that was helping him get back on his feet and return to doing things he loved that had fallen by the wayside.'
Claiming Noel had tried to reconcile with Liam over the years, but to no avail, they continued: 'Over the years, Noel had offered an olive branch to Liam, but he'd never taken it up.
'Anais could tell her dad really wanted both his brothers, Liam and Paul, by his side after the split so was determined to get them back in touch. She gets on great with Liam's sons Gene and Lennon so she asked them if their dad would be willing to hear her out.
'They said they thought he would be receptive, so she then asked Liam to reach out to his brother to lend support. Liam's always wanted Oasis back together so he got in touch.'
Anais, who is said to have played a part in picking the tour's set list, recently spoke out in defence of younger Oasis fans, who were accused of not being able to appreciate the Britpop sensation's music because they were not of the same generation.
Insisting her dad's catalogue of hits was 'timeless', the photographer told Hello! magazine: 'I see this all the time actually - where someone will post a funny video or a cover song and people would say '[Oasis] would hate this'. No, no, you hate this.
'Sometimes people put this hyper-aggressive masculine ideology into what they think that my dad and my uncle are going to be like. They're actually a lot more accepting than the fans are.'
She added: 'People really love to hate on anything that young women like and it's really fascinating to me that young women want to go and see Taylor Swift and they're criticised because apparently it's not cool or it's embarrassing - and then young women want to go see Oasis and they're not allowed.
'So, where are young women allowed to take up space? People used the excuse of saying 'you weren't around', as a huge music fan myself, loads of bands that I like split up or were dead even by the time that I came to listen to them."
Noel and Liam will walk on stage for the first time together since the band split on July 4 at Cardiff's Principality Stadium. There will also be dates in Manchester, London and Dublin as well as Brazil and the US as part of the epic tour.

Edinburgh fringe event organisers urged to capitalise on Oasis and AC/DC gigs
Organisers of Edinburgh fringe events have been urged to be 'pretty smart' and capitalise on the decision by Oasis and AC/DC to play gigs in the city midway through the festival. There was surprise and irritation when it emerged the bands would be staging four concerts at Murrayfield stadium in mid-August when the world's largest arts festival is in full flow. Tony Lankester, who recently took over as the Fringe Society's chief executive, said fringe companies should see the concerts as an opportunity rather than fret about downsides. About 75,000 fans are expected for each concert – three by Oasis and one by AC/DC, putting the city's trains, buses and trams under even greater strain, with visitors competing for already scarce and expensive hotel beds. Lankester, who previously ran South Africa's national arts festival, said fringe venues should tempt Edinburgh residents who may 'want to hide' when the concerts take place with discounted tickets or free wine. Venues could also tempt Oasis and AC/DC concertgoers with 'morning after' performances in the city with free bacon rolls and coffee, he suggested. 'What we don't want to happen is for the local audience to hide that night,' he said. 'There's some pretty smart marketing type things that I think venues could be looking at. The fact is that it's not going away. Why not be completely opportunistic about it?' This year's fringe, which runs from 1 to 25 Augustand takes place alongside the international festival and book festival, is expected to involve about 50,000 performances at 265 venues. Lankester said the strength of the programme, which includes themes such as rebellious women, the apocalypse, queer joy and rave culture, showed artists were as hungry as ever to perform despite global crises and tensions. 'What excites me most about the programme, is the signal that it sends is of an industry in healthy shape,' he said. For the first time, five shows from US performers are being underwritten by donors to the Keep it Fringe funding strand launched in 2023 by the Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the fringe's honorary president, to support new, marginalised or innovative acts. Lankester said he had numerous conversations that 'reaffirmed for me what I knew coming into this job, that there's a lot of love and joy around the fringe. It's something that people absolutely want to preserve, protect, engage with, be part of. It's still on an incredible number of people's bucket lists.' He said he was talking to major brands about the potential to become headline sponsors of the fringe for the first time, to bring in extra revenue for performers and venues at a time of intense pressure on public funding. He said those discussions were at an early stage, but indicated it could involve a bank or beer brand. No sponsor would be allowed to rebrand the fringe, but their investments would help the festival to improve its finances. Sign up to The Guide Get our weekly pop culture email, free in your inbox every Friday after newsletter promotion In her last newspaper interview, Shona McCarthy, Lankester's immediate predecessor, accused political leaders of consistently neglecting the fringe and failing to adequately invest in services, transport and infrastructure such as mobile phone services. Lankester said he 'stood by' everything McCarthy had said. Her 'enormously valuable' intervention had fuelled action and more responsiveness in the council, the Scottish government and other agencies, he said, adding: 'The message landed.' Lankester is lobbying Edinburgh council to devote at least £1.1m of a new visitor levy on hotel beds to supporting the festival, and is in talks about strengthening the city's ailing mobile and wifi services, as well as improved rail services for non-residents. The visitor levy will come into force in July 2026, but hotels will begin collecting it on all bookings made from October this year. 'What we don't want to happen is for that money to sort of disappear into a black hole and for no benefit to be felt by the people [who] drive a big chunk of that revenue,' he said.

EastEnders Bernie star supported by cast as she breaks silence on show axe
EastEnders actress Clair Norris, who plays Bernie Taylor in the soap, has broken her silence after it was revealed she'd been axed by the BBC soap Actress Clair Norris, who plays Bernie Taylor in EastEnders, has spoken out weeks after it was revealed she had been axed from the BBC soap after eight years. Clair, 27, joined her fellow castmates at this weekend's British Soap Awards, in which the soap won an incredible 8 awards. It included wins for Best British Soap, Best Single Episode and Scene of the Year for Angie Watts' surprise return. The cast and crew were out in full force celebrating, as Clair addressed her exit for the first time in a post from the night - calling it an "amazing end". Taking to her Instagram to post a picture of herself all glammed up in a teal dress on the night, Clair penned: "My last @thebritishsoapawards with my EE family. We [broom emoji] up last night, 8 awards & I couldn't be prouder to be apart of this team! What a way to end this amazing journey, head held high & beaming from ear to ear." Clair was supported by both fans as colleagues in her post, with James Farrar, who plays Zack Hudson writing: "Head held HIGH," along with a number of red heart emojis. Emma Barton who plays Honey Mitchell echoed: "Love you," as Elijah Holloway who plays Harry Mitchell gushed: "We looked lovely didn't we." Clair also posted pictures with co-star Matthew James Morrison, who has also been axed from the soap after playing the role of Felix Baker since 2022. Bernie arrived in Walford in 2017 alongside mum Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and brother Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters). However, she's the last one of her family members left on the Square with her mum Karen leaving EastEnders in 2023, shortly followed by the murder of her brother Keanu on Christmas Day. According to The Sun, Bernie's exit storyline didn't come as a surprise to star Clair. A source told the publication: "Every time a soap gets a new boss they want to make their own changes – it's nothing personal. "The writing has been on the wall for Bernie for some time so it wasn't really a surprise to Clair." "She was the last Taylor standing and it's time to close the chapter on them and let Clair go on to do other things." EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
