"The efforts to trouble the food-providing farmers and exploit them within the system have been ongoing for a long time. Companies supplying fertilizers and seeds are engaging in the despicable act of sabotaging agricultural activities by providing fake seeds to the enthusiastic farming community that are expecting a good harvest in the backdrop of a promising monsoon this time," Vijayendra said.
"I urge the government to file a criminal case against such companies in this regard and take strict action, and also to take all necessary measures to ensure that the farming community gets quality seeds and necessary fertilizers in a timely manner," he said in a post on 'X'.

Stating that it should be the government's top priority to ensure that the farming community, which is the largest human resource of the country and who live by trusting nature, does not face any problems, Vijayendra said, in this context, Prime Minister Narendra Modi- led central government, along with agricultural incentive schemes, has taken precautionary measures to protect farmers.
"The state government too needs to take committed steps in this regard, so that the lives of farmers are not affected," he said.
To strengthen the Agriculture Department and to take strict action against the networks that cheat farmers, a police vigilance team should be formed, the BJP leader said, adding hashtag "CongressFailsKarnataka".
"This time, mother nature has embraced the farmers through a good monsoon, I urge the government to take all possible precautionary measures to thwart any fraudulent attempts that may disrupt the farmers from enjoying its benefits."
Targeting the Congress government citing media reports about farmers protest in some parts, against urea shortage, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R Ashoka said, the Congress government should have been alert and paid attention towards ensuring storage of necessary amount of fertilizer and its timely distribution, when the monsoon arrived a month in advance this time.
Instead, those in the government completely neglected the farmers in the heat of factional fights for power or chair, Ashoka said in a post on 'X'. "The curse of the farms will affect this Congress government," he added.

Rs 11 Crore Cash Seized From Andhra Guesthouse In Liquor Scam Case

Vijayawada: In a new twist to the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has recovered Rs 11 crore cash from a guesthouse near Hyderabad. The currency notes were kept in 12 cardboard boxes at Sulochana Farm Guesthouse at Kacharam in Shamshabad mandal of Rangareddy district, said sources here. The SIT seized the cash during the searches at the houses and offices of the accused in the scam, which allegedly took place during the previous government of the YSR Congress Party. The investigating officials also seized liquor hidden at the same premises. The SIT sources said, "Cash and liquor were hidden at the direction of Kesireddy Rajashekar Reddy, the prime accused in the case." The SIT officials searched the guesthouse on the basis of the information revealed by Varun Purshottam, who is accused number 40 in the case. The investigation team is also probing the role of Chanikya and Vinay, both accused in the case, in concealing the cash. On the direction of Kesireddy and Chanikya, Varun had hidden the cash in 12 boxes, the sources said. During the questioning by SIT officials, Varun reportedly confessed to the crime and revealed information about cash and liquor. The alleged scam had occurred during the YSRCP rule between 2019 and 2024. After TDP-led NDA came to power last year, a case was registered at CID Police Station in Mangalagiri under sections 409, 420, 120 (B), r/w 34 and 37 of IPC and section 7, 7A, 8, 12, 13 (1), (b), 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) initially conducted an investigation following a complaint by an official of the Excise Department. Later, the government constituted an SIT, headed by NTR District Commissioner of Police S.V. Rajashekhar Babu, to probe the case. The SIT found large-scale irregularities and fund misappropriation in the liquor policy implemented during 2019-24. Investigators reportedly uncovered a kickback network involving nearly Rs 3,500 crore siphoned off over five years. There are allegations that the YSR Congress Party leaders encouraged the new liquor policy, floated new brands, received kickbacks from the distillery companies, causing a huge loss to the government. The SIT has already arrested 12 accused, including YSRCP MP P. V. Midhun Reddy. The key accused include Kesireddy Rajashekar Reddy, former IT Adviser to former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy; K. Dhanunjaya Reddy, Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office; Krishna Mohan Reddy, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to then Chief Minister; director of Bharati Cements Balaji Govindappa; former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy; Rajashekar Reddy's personal assistant Dilip Kumar, Chanikya, and Sajjala Sridhar Reddy. The SIT filed a preliminary charge sheet in the case on July 19. It mentions former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as one of the recipients of kickbacks. He, however, has not been named as an accused in the case. The charge sheet alleges that between 2019 and 2024, an average of Rs 50 to 60 crore was collected every month from distilleries and routed through a network of aides and shell companies.

BJD MPs protest in Parliament over rising crimes in Odisha

New Delhi: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs staged a protest at the Gandhi statue in Parliament on Tuesday, decrying the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in BJP-ruled Odisha, particularly the surge in crimes against women and children. Carrying placards that read 'Mahilaon ki cheekh aur sarkar ki khamoshi' (the cries of women and the silence of the government) and 'Odisha BJP ka shaasan, apradhiyo ki shaan' (BJP's rule in Odisha, a pride for criminals), the members demanded immediate central intervention and a judicial inquiry into the recent 'horrific' incidents. Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra said, 'Women and children in Odisha today are completely unprotected. The law and order situation is collapsing.' Citing the incident involving a student of FM College in Balasore, who died after self-immolating when her pleas for justice went unheard, Patra said, 'She approached everyone, including the chief minister, but got no justice.' 'And now in Puri, another young girl was doused in petrol by miscreants and is battling for life at AIIMS Delhi,' he told PTI Videos. He accused the BJP-led Odisha government of being a 'complete failure' and calling its stance on the issues 'convenient and full of double standards.' Patra said the BJD demands a judicial inquiry into both incidents and 'strict action against the miscreants.' BJD MP Muzibulla Khan had similar concerns. He said the BJP raised the slogan of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' to come to power, but it is 'failing to protect our daughters'. Subhasish Khuntia, another BJD MP, said crimes against women and students are continuing 'unabated' under the 'double engine government' in Odisha. 'There is no safety for women under the BJP rule,' he said.

OPS urges Centre to release education funds for Tamil Nadu

Expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam (OPS) on Tuesday condemned the BJP-led Union government for withholding funds amounting to ₹2,151 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan from Tamil Nadu over the state government's refusal to accept the three-language formula mandated by the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. OPS is presently a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), under whose banner he ran as an independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and ultimately lost (File photo) 'Not releasing funds citing this reason is an act that affects the education of innocent, poor and needy students and teachers. This is strongly condemned,' OPS said in his statement. 'This action of the central government is against the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the principle of federalism…The Central Government's approach has created a pathetic situation where 25% of students cannot be enrolled in private schools under the RTE…' OPS is presently a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), under whose banner he ran as an independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and ultimately lost. He has reportedly been unhappy over a perceived lack of respect for him within the alliance. According to an expelled AIADMK leader close to OPS, who spoke on condition of anonymity, 'Some of us had advised him to remain independent and not to join the BJP long back last year.' OPS' statement on Tuesday led to speculation of him joining the actor Vijay's fledgling Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). 'That is an option but as a former chief minister, it is better for OPS to contest on his own along with whoever is willing to join hands with us,' the leader quoted above said. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) expelled OPS in 2022. Both had been sharing power to run the party up till that point. Another expelled AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran's party Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) also joined the NDA last year, after the AIADMK had broken away from the BJP in 2023. However, the party rejoined the NDA this April. EPS reportedly failed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to the state from July 26 to 28, even after seeking an appointment . BJP state president Nainar Nagendran said he had been unaware that OPS wanted to meet the PM. 'If I had known, I would have definitely arranged a meeting for him,' Nagendran said and did not react to OPS' statement on releasing of central funds. (ANY REACTION FROM DMK TO THE STATEMENT? HAS ANYONE IN BJP ALSO SPECIFICALLY RESPONDED TO IT?)
