Coronation Street and Emmerdale humiliated at British Soap Awards as rival soap wins EIGHT gongs
CORONATION Street were brutally snubbed at the 2025 British Soap Awards as they failed to pick up any of the previously announced awards at this year's ceremony.
The annual soap event made a return this year after ITV mysteriously axed the contest in 2024 as Jane McDonald returned for her second year as host of the event.

But it was bad news for Coronation Street as the programme suffered a devastating loss after managing to bag just the specially curated Outstanding Achievement Award which went to Roy Cropper star David Neilson.
The show failed to secure wins in any of the main panel or viewer-voted categories amid ITV's ongoing cash crisis and the mass cast exodus at the soap over the past six months.
Its ITV counterpart Emmerdale also faced a crushing blow ahead of the impending ITV schedule changes which will see 30 minutes worth of each programme cut a week from January 2026.
BBC rival EastEnders swept the board after collecting a total of eight gongs in its 40th anniversary year - more than double its nearest rival, Channel 4's Hollyoaks who got three awards.
EastEnders was awarded Best Soap after its huge live episode and anniversary week which saw Anita Dobson return as Angie Watts and Martin Fowler killed off in the arms of his love, Stacey.
It was certainly not the only award that they picked up with actress Lacey Turner receiving the trophy for Best Leading Performer ahead of her impending exit from the show.
The 40th anniversary also managed to clutch the Scene of the Year thanks to Angie's shock return.
Steve McFadden a won a trophy for Best Dramatic Performance as Phil Mitchell but did not attend the ceremony with Angela Wynter and Rudolph Walker also receiving prizes as Patrick and Yolande - beating Corrie fan favourites Lisa Swain and Carla Connor, affectionately known as Swarla, to the Best On-Screen Partnership award.
The Walford based soap also collected the Comedy Performance gongs and Villain of the Year.
In a major blow to Coronation Street, only David Neilson picked up the Outstanding Achievement Award as Roy Cropper which was presented to him by by his on-screen wife Julie Hesmondhalgh.

Hollyoaks managed to win three awards with Isabelle Smith winning as Best Newcomer with The Osbourne family taking home Best Family and the sibling sexual abuse storyline being named Best Storyline.
Emmerdale managed just two awards with Amelia Flanagan beating her Corrie star brother Will to the Best Young Performer prize.
Mike Plant, one of the show's camera operators, picked up the prestigious off-screen Tony Warren Award accolade for his contributions to the soap behind the scenes.
ITV's crushing defeats come amid a period of unrest backstage at the shows.
Both Corrie and Emmerdale have lost a number of stars over the past 12 months amid cuts at the channel.
In particular, Coronation Street has faced increasing criticism of its far-fetched storylines and dwindling viewer interest in many of its plots.
Fans will be able to see all the reaction from the ceremony held at the Hackney Empire during the broadcast of the ceremony this Thursday evening on ITV.

Stormont's Finance Minister John O'Dowd said he welcomed the outcome of the high-profile case. Former Sinn Fein leader Mr Adams took the BBC to court over a 2016 episode of its Spotlight programme, and an accompanying online story, which he said defamed him by alleging he sanctioned the killing of former Sinn Fein official Denis Donaldson, for which he denies any involvement. A jury at the High Court in Dublin awarded Mr Adams 100,000 euro (£84,000) when it found in his favour on Friday after determining that was the meaning of words included in the programme and article. It also found the BBC's actions were not in good faith and the corporation had not acted in a fair and reasonable way. Mr Donaldson was shot dead in Co Donegal in 2006, months after admitting his role as a police and MI5 agent over 20 years. Mr Adams' legal team said the verdict of the jury was a 'full vindication' for their client while the BBC said it was 'disappointed' with the outcome, warning it could have 'profound implications and potentially 'hinder freedom of expression'. Following the jury's decision, Mr Adams said his case had been about 'putting manners' on the BBC. The veteran republican claimed the corporation upheld the ethos of the British state in Ireland and was 'out of sync' on many fronts in relation to the Good Friday peace agreement. The National Union of Journalists has described those remarks as 'chilling'. Seamus Dooley, Irish secretary of the NUJ, also said the case showed the need for reform of Ireland's defamation laws. The minister was asked if Mr Adams' claims about the BBC upholding the ethos of the British state and being out of sync with the Good Friday Agreement reflected Sinn Fein's position on the broadcaster. 'I think it's a position that many in society hold,' he replied. 'There are many, many fine journalists from the BBC – there's no question about that. But I think the upper echelons of the BBC in the north and the reaction to the court judgment shows that they're unwilling to learn lessons. 'They're unwilling to reflect on their own role and responsibility. So, I think … this is a time for the BBC to reflect, and the upper echelons of the BBC to reflect, rather than some of the knee-jerk reactions we've seen from them thus far.'

EastEnders star Danny walked his daughter Dani, 28, down the aisle so she could marry footballer Jarrod Bowen. White rose petals lined the aisle, with floral sculptures and candles creating a stunning backdrop which the bride and groom shared a kiss in front of. And after Dani, wearing a designer Suzanne Neville dress, and Jarrod said 'I do', cheeky Danny then couldn't resist bringing a bit of football into proceedings. With mic in hand on videos shared on social media, he can be heard urging the guests to sing "Bowen's On Fire - and he's married Dani Dyer ' to the tune of pop star Gala's hit Freed from Desire. Dani has now quickly changed her surname to Dyer-Bowen on Instagram, and is thrilled with how her big day went. On her Instagram, Dani said, "The most perfect, special day," alongside a video of herself getting married. A purpose-built glass marquee had been erected in the Buckinghamshire countryside for the event, although the ceremony itself took place outside to make the most of the sunny weather. After the couple cut a giant white cake, a band could be seen in the background poised to begin, so everyone could get the party started with some dancing. Around 60 people are said to have attended the ceremony, which is in keeping with the down-to-earth couple who have a small circle of close friends as well as family to invite. The video of the day appeared to show Dani's having a first dance with both her dad Danny and Jarrod before other guests joined them on the dancefloor. In a behind-the-scenes wedding reel shared to Instagram, Danny looked as though he could cry as he embraced daughter Dani on the dance floor. In the background of the video, a rendition of Ray Charles' song Georgia On My Mind could be heard playing. After a late night partying with a live band, guests could help themselves to take away pizzas. The boxes were specially made for the day and said 'D&J that's amore' on them. In the lead up to the wedding, Danny said: 'I have met every single boyfriend that has walked through my door - and then she brings home the West Ham captain. I have gone from the lying scum, and I hate them, to a man who I would not mind tonguing myself! A strong man. If he lent in I would put my lips on this geezer. 'He is just, as a father and joking aside, he took her on with a 14 month old son and that says a lot about a man I will tell you. He is amazing. I can't wait to give her away. What a touch. But if he was to make a move on me before… "I think I'm in love with him, slightly. He's an incredible person. I just want someone to love my daughters the way I do. I want them to worship them and look after them. Let me tell you that. I love him.' Jarrod joined West Ham in 2020 and has regularly been the best player on the pitch, including when he scored the winning goal to give West Ham their first trophy in 43 years during the 2023 Europa Conference League final.
