Netflix's Best New Show Lands A 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score From Critics
The Survivors Netflix has been on something of a roll with its mystery series as of late, from the 100% scored Secrets We Keep to the newly Emmy-submitted Dept. Q. Now, a new series has arrived from Australia that also has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score. That would be The Survivors, a new series starring a lead from a rival streaming service, Charlie Vickers, who plays Sauron in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It also has Yerin Ha, the actress who was a supporting character in the awful Halo show on Paramount Plus but who has landed some seriously big parts including the co-lead of the next season of Bridgerton and now a big role in this perfectly scored mystery. What a turnaround. What's the story here? This is the official synopsis: Unlike Dept. Q, this is meant to be a six-episode limited series, and it was based on a book, so there's no more source material to come with its self-contained story. It debuted at #3 on Netflix, a very solid performance, but again, viewership doesn't really matter when you're not attempting to grab a second season. The Survivors As it stands, with limited critic reviews in, it has that 100%. There are not enough audience reviews for a score yet on Rotten Tomatoes, but we can head over to IMDB to see that it has a 6.5 out of 10 with a thousand or so reviews in. That's okay, not amazing, given the context of ratings on that site. What's good about it? Here's a sampling of the critical praise: With episodes around 45-50 minutes, it's perhaps a 1-2 day commitment, depending on your schedule, and an easy binge so you can see if your view matches critics. I started it, and I was sort of immediately put off by some bad CGI showcasing the original accident, but hopefully, it gets better from there. I'll give it more of a chance, I suppose. A Big New Update About ‘Dept. Q' Season 2 From Netflix
Dept Q. One of Netflix's best shows in a bit is Dept. Q, the Matthew Goode thriller based on a series of books that examines cold cases and the detective's own personality defects. The show has gotten great critic and audience scores, but viewership analysis is inconclusive, and while there is cast excitement about potentially getting a season 2, we haven't seen anything from the Netflix side. Until now. TVLine reports that Netflix has now submitted Dept. Q into the Emmy race for Best Drama Series. The show landed just two days before the cut-off for submission, and Netflix submitted it just under the wire. It's similar to the late release of Baby Reindeer, the limited series that went on to win a slew of Emmys. I have my doubts that in an incredibly crowded year that includes Severance, The Pitt, White Lotus, The Last of Us and even Andor that Dept. Q would land the award. Or if Matthew Goode would get a statue over say, The Pitt's Noah Wyle. But that's not the point. The point is that if Netflix is submitting this series for Emmy consideration, it thinks the show is high-quality, and that is a clear indication of a second season renewal. It's difficult to cite a Netflix series submitted for an Emmy like this that ended up cancelled after that happened. I can't think of one. If it happened, it was likely a show that had already run for multiple seasons. Dept Q Given all this information, I would expect to hear about a season 2 renewal for Dept. Q any day now. As a further update, here's the Dept. Q showrunner Scott Frank, who previously did the monster hit The Queen's Gambit for Netflix, on the prospect of a second season: 'I've got a great idea for a second season. It is another cold case and also a current case, at the same time, that they're looking into. So, I would do that.' However, he may slim down the episode count next time: 'I might just do six next time. We'll see. But I do know what I want to do next. I do have the story in mind for the next season.' I would agree that nine episodes may have stretched out the first season a little too long, even as I would often complain that many shows have gotten too short. For a series like this, it just felt a little prolonged. But of course, overall it was a great first season, and everyone is excited to see more. And there will almost certainly be more now, based on this recent development. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. The White Lotus Season 4: Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on June 10, 2025, 19:00 IST Last updated June 10, 2025, 12:40 IST HBO's The White Lotus has captivated audiences with its biting social satire, luxurious settings, and shocking plot twists. After the explosive Season 3 finale set in Thailand, fans are eagerly awaiting news about The White Lotus Season 4. From potential release date to cast rumours and plot hints, here's everything we know so far about the next chapter of Mike White's Emmy-winning anthology series. When Will The White Lotus Season 4 Release? While HBO hasn't announced an official release date, the production timeline offers clues. Season 1 premiered in July 2021, Season 2 in October 2022, and Season 3 in February 2025, with delays due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. With production eyed for 2026, and considering Season 2's nine-month turnaround from filming to release, The White Lotus Season 4 is likely to debut in late 2026 or early 2027. Fans should expect a wait of at least 18–24 months, aligning with the gap between Seasons 2 and 3. Who Will Star in The White Lotus Season 4? As an anthology series, The White Lotus typically introduces a new ensemble cast each season, with a few recurring characters. Only three characters have appeared in multiple seasons so far: Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge, Seasons 1–2), Greg Hunt (Jon Gries, Seasons 1–3), and Belinda Lindsey (Natasha Rothwell, Seasons 1 and 3). With Tanya's death in Season 2 and the resolution of Greg and Belinda's storylines in Season 3, their return seems unlikely, though Rothwell and Gries have expressed openness to reprising their roles. Mike White has teased the idea of an 'all-star season' featuring returning fan-favorite characters. Patrick Schwarzenegger (Saxon Ratliff, Season 3) recalled White joking about uniting 'all the douche guys' like Saxon, Shane Patton (Jake Lacy, Season 1), and Cameron Sullivan (Theo James, Season 2). Other potential returnees include: Sydney Sweeney (Olivia Mossbacher, Season 1) Connie Britton (Nicole Mossbacher, Season 1) Meghann Fahy (Daphne Sullivan, Season 2) Simona Tabasco (Lucia Greco, Season 2) Haley Lu Richardson (Portia, Season 2) What Will The White Lotus Season 4 Be About? While specific plot details remain under wraps, The White Lotus follows a consistent formula: a group of wealthy vacationers and resort staff navigate privilege, desire, and dark secrets, culminating in at least one death. Season 4 is expected to maintain this structure, with White hinting at a new satirical theme. He's considered exploring the art world, film industry, or a film festival setting, which could offer a lighter yet incisive commentary compared to Season 3's spiritual focus.
