PH-BN not Malayan-only coalitions, include Sabah parties
KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has dismissed claims that Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) are exclusively Malayan coalitions, emphasising their inclusion of Sabah-based parties.
Speaking to Bernama, he highlighted the presence of Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) in BN and the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) in PH as proof of their local representation.
Ahmad stressed that UMNO, after over 30 years in Sabah, should no longer be viewed as an 'outside party' but as an integral part of the state's political landscape.
He made these remarks while officiating the 37th Selayang UMNO Division Wanita Delegates' Meeting 2025 at the Event Space, Jalan Melati, Kuang Sungai Buloh.
As UMNO War Room Secretariat chief, Ahmad is tasked with strengthening the party's election machinery in Sabah alongside Sabah UMNO Liaison secretary Datuk Jafry Ariffin.
He explained that the war room's role extends beyond data collection, uniting party wings—Women, Youth, Puteri, and the information team—to enhance grassroots operations.
'I am confident that with this approach, UMNO, which previously won 14 seats, can increase its number of seats and achieve success in the upcoming state election,' he said.

Two Sabah state assemblymen charged alongside businessman for alleged bribery over Sabah mining license
KOTA KINABALU, June 30 — Two state assemblyman pleaded not guilty in court today for receiving bribes from businessman Datuk Albert Tei amounting to RM350,000 in total for assistance in getting approval for a mineral prospecting license. Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Yusof Yacob is accused of receiving RM200,000 in cash from Tei on March 6, 2023 at the rooftop restaurant in Hilton hotel at around 2pm in exchange for help in the application and approval process for a mineral prospecting license for Syarikat Nusa Kini Sdn Bhd in Sabah. Tanjung Batu assemblyman and Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Assistant Minister Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy was charged for receiving RM150,000 cash from Tei on May 12, 2023 at 11pm in front of his residence along Jalan Pantai, Sembulan in exchange for help in application and approval process of the mineral prospecting license for Syarikat Sinaran Hayat Sdn Bhd in Sabah. Both are Sabah-based companies where Tei is a partner. Tei, 37, also pleaded not guilty for offering the bribes. Special Corruption Court Judge Jason Juga set August 5 for pretrial case management Bail for the two assemblymen was set at RM50,000 with RM10,000 fully deposited today with a local surety and they were also asked to surrender his passport. Bail for Tei was set at RM60,000 for both charges with RM15,000 to be deposited today and surrender his passport. They were all also asked to check in with the nearest Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office once every two months until the case is over. The charges against Andi and Yusof were under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for accepting bribes while Tei was charged under Section 16(b)(A) of the Act for offering bribes. They carry sentences of imprisonment up to twenty years and fines not less than five times the amount or value of the bribe. It has been reported that Tei was the businessman behind several videos implicating politicians in corrupt activities between 2023 and 2024, in exchange for assistance in processing mineral exploration licence applications. The videos were published by online portal MalaysiaKini before being handed to MACC for investigation. Some 100 supporters for both assemblymen also came to court but were not allowed into the courtroom due to the lack of space. Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah secretary Datuk Mohamed Razali Razi attended the proceedings. Yusof and Andi were represented by lawyers Datuk Ram Singh, Shahlan Jufri and Ridzwandean Bukhari M Borhan. Tei was represented by Edward Paul. The deputy public prosecutor was Nurul Izzati Sapiflee and Rustam Sanip.

Two Sabah assemblymen, businessman plead not guilty in RM350,000 bribery case
PETALING JAYA: Two Sabah assemblymen and a businessman pleaded not guilty at the Special Corruption Court in Kota Kinabalu today to charges involving RM350,000 in bribes related to mineral prospecting licence applications. Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, Tanjung Batu assemblyman Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy, and Selangor-based businessman Datuk Albert Tei Jiann Cheing appeared before Judge Jason Juga under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. All three denied the charges. According to The Star, Dr Yusof was the first to be called, followed by Andi Muhammad and Tei. The trio arrived at the courthouse separately in the morning, with Tei entering at 8.40am, Andi at 8.46am, and Dr Yusof at 8.48am. The charges stem from alleged offences committed in 2023. MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had earlier confirmed the arrest of a state assemblyman and a businessman on June 18 over suspected bribery involving RM200,000. Sources indicated the assemblyman, in his 60s, and the businessman, in his 30s, were accused of offences between 2023 and 2024. On June 23, Azam announced the arrest of another assemblyman, believed to have solicited and received RM150,000 in bribes in the same case. The second suspect, in his 40s and holding an assistant minister position, is also accused of offences spanning 2023 to 2024. The businessman was released on RM100,000 bail with two sureties, while the two assemblymen were granted RM50,000 bail each with one surety after their statements were recorded.

Jeffrey Kitingan denies involvement in Sabah mining scandal, vows legal action over RM1.78m payout claim
KOTA KINABALU, June 30 — Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan has denied claims that he received RM1.78 million linked to a mining scandal in Sabah. He said the allegation, published by a news portal, was baseless and politically motivated by his critics in an attempt to destabilise, smear and topple the current Sabah government, Berita Harian reported today. 'I have never received any funds related to mining applications or any alleged scandal,' he was quoted as saying. He described the allegation as a fabrication by desperate political players trying to interfere with Sabah politics. 'This is a tactic that has been used since the 1960s,' he said. Kitingan, who is also Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president, said his party has never applied for any mining licence nor was it involved in any mining activities. He described himself as a supporter of the Nature Conservation Agreement (NCA), adding that mining goes against STAR's conservation stance. Kitingan said he and party members are fully cooperating with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and have submitted detailed statements to aid its investigations. 'This is the price we pay in our struggle to reclaim Sabah's rights,' he was quoted as saying. Kitingan also claimed that earlier statements by whistleblowers had cleared STAR and Parti Bersatu Sabah of wrongdoing. As such, he said he will take all available legal action over what he described as malicious and false accusations. This includes legal action against the news portal that published the report. 'We expect more false allegations and slander. 'It would not be surprising if certain parties try to exploit this to shift Sabah's political landscape,' he was quoted as saying.
