Alexander, a seasoned veteran who entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, is considered one of the top cover cornerbacks in the league, though injuries have limited his availability in recent seasons.

The news of Alexander's release was initially announced by NFL insider Ian Rapoport in a post to Twitter, and later confirmed by the NFL's official account:
It remains unclear if the Chiefs might have a desire to add another cornerback to their roster at this point in the offseason, but Alexander's availability is noteworthy, given the poor performance of Kansas City's secondary in Super Bowl LIX earlier this year.
According to the experts at OverTheCap.com, the Chiefs presently have $10,884,108 in remaining salary cap, so any move to sign Alexander would need to pay significantly less than the $24,636,355 that the veteran cornerback was set to earn with Green Bay in 2025.

After signing a four-year, $84 million extension in 2022, Alexander was set to make over $16 million in 2025. The Packers reportedly offered Alexander a restructured deal in May, which would have resulted in Alexander taking a pay cut. It appears Alexander did not want to take that deal, leading to his reported release. The last two seasons in which Alexander played double-digit games, he made the Pro Bowl. That should give the 28-year-old multiple options now that he's reportedly hit the free-agent market. Given his injury struggles, Alexander may need to settle for a short-term deal. If he can stay healthy and return to form, Alexander could fetch a much larger contract on the market next season.
