Arizona Cardinals free agent preview: Running back With free agency approaching, a look at the Cardinals' offseason needs at running back
NFL free agency begins next week on Monday with the opening of the contact and negotiation window with players whose contracts expire on March 12 and become free agents. The Arizona Cardinals will be active, although it is uncertain how aggressive they will be or how much money they will spend.
But before that happens, we will take a look at each position group, see who is on the roster, who will be free agents and what their need at the position is for the offseason.
Let's look at the the situation at running back.
Running backs under contract
James Conner: Signed through 2026, $6.4 million cap hit in 2025
Trey Benson: Signed through 2027, $1.7 million cap hit in 2025
Emari Demercado: Signed through 2025, $1.04 million cap hit in 2025
DeeJay Dallas: Signed through 2026, $3.1 million cap hit in 2025
Michael Carter: Signed through 2025, $1.27 million cap hit in 2025
Zonovan "Bam" Knight: Signed through 2025, $1.03 million cap hit in 2025
Pending free agents

Offseason need
The Cardinals actually have no offseason need at running back. They have a clear starter in Conner. They have a young guy in Benson they are very excited about. They have Dallas as a special teams ace and love Demercado in the third-down role. Carter adds competition to the depth. Knight is probably an offseason body.
Could the Cardinals add a low-end free agent on a one-year deal? Certainly, but they are quite comfortable with the players they have.
It would be a surprise to see them sign anyone of any notoriety, especially with any amount of guaranteed money.
Notable free agent running backs
Don't expect the Cardinals to even consider any of these players, but here are some names to know around the league.
Aaron Jones
Jamaal Williams
Raheem Mostert
Najee Harris
A.J. Dillon
Nick Chubb
JK Dobbins
Samaje Perine
Rico Dowdle
Kareem Hunt

Josh Allen's Unexpected Decision Leaves Fans in Disbelief

Josh Allen's Unexpected Decision Leaves Fans in Disbelief originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is coming off an NFL MVP season in which he threw for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions, while also rushing for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns. Advertisement In December 2021, Allen signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Nike, which included apparel and footwear. With the Bills holding mandatory minicamp from June 10-12, all eyes were on Allen as he geared up for his eighth NFL season. However, the 29-year-old didn't wear Nike cleats — a departure from his consistent practice of wearing them since signing his deal. Allen instead wore white New Balance cleats, a clear indication that he left Nike this offseason. Photos of Allen in the cleats made their way to social media, and fans were shocked by the move. "No way 😒," a fan said. "His cleat game was fire last season. Shame on Nike," another wrote. Advertisement "Diabolical 😂," added another. "Jeez. New balance must be paying big," wrote a fan. "😔 but happy for him. He was killing it in Nik," said another. "I like New Balance but Nike is King in the Football Space," one said. Allen also holds the record for the highest passer rating in a single postseason (149.0 in 2021) and is tied for the most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season (15). Tiger Woods congratulates new PGA Tour CEO as Jay Monahan announces departure

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan announced on Tuesday that he is leaving the tour, and Tiger Woods seems excited about the future. Monahan will leave the tour next year, and top NFL executive Brian Rolapp was announced as the PGA Tour's CEO. "I'm honored to step into the role of CEO of the PGA Tour. Golf has one of the deepest histories and many of the most timeless traditions in all of sports," Rolapp said in an open letter posted on social media. "That history and those traditions have inspired generations of players and fans, creating both a game and a Tour that millions around the world love. At the same time, professional golf is evolving, as are the ways fans consume sports. My goal as CEO is to honor golf's traditions but not be overly bound by them." Woods posted on X, thanking Monahan for his service to the tour and congratulating the new CEO. "Congrats to Brian on becoming CEO of the PGA TOUR. I'm excited about where the TOUR is headed. And a big thank you to Jay for everything he's done for our game and for the players and fans," Woods posted. Monahan himself added, "Brian is the perfect choice for the next chapter of the PGA Tour. "His arrival strengthens our leadership team and reflects our shared commitment to the TOUR's continued evolution. With Brian's expertise and vision, and the trust we've established with our players and fans, I'm more confident than ever in the future we're building." Monahan will shift his day-to-day responsibilities to Rolapp and focus more on his position on the PGA Tour board, along with the commercial PGA Tour Enterprises board, through 2026. "Over the past few years, the TOUR has made meaningful progress in addressing these changes - from creating more opportunities for players to improving the competitive structure and enhancing the fan experience. But there's still significant work to do and incredible opportunity remains ahead. From creating the highest quality golf product that includes the best players in the world, to strengthening commercial partnerships - as I spoke to players, board member, and fans in recent months, I felt drawn to this potential," Rolapp said. Monahan's announcement comes amid continued negotiations with the Public Investment Fund and LIV Golf, which were unearthed over two years ago. No agreement has ever materialized as Monahan has continued to get criticism. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
