CM Majhi announces ‘36 for 36' strategy for Viksit Odisha, vision document soon
BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced that Odisha's growth transformation journey will be accelerated by launching a strategic initiative '36 for 36' by identifying 36 flagship initiatives aimed at making a significant impact in key sectors by 2036.
Presiding over the meeting of the council of ministers, the chief minister said, for the centenary celebrations of formation of the state in 2036, the government has taken an ambitious resolve to make Odisha a prosperous and developed state. This will also help in achieving the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047.
The council of ministers decided that 'Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047' document will be finalised in consultation with public representatives, common citizens, members of civil society and intellectuals at various levels in the next 15 days by organising regional workshops at four different locations in the state.
The chief minister said the government has started preparing for 'Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047' from August 2024. Inclusion, prosperity and wellness are the three pillars which form the basis of this vision document.
To achieve GSDP target of $1.5 trillion by 2047 and to contribute 5 per cent to India's GDP, he said, Odisha needs to exceed and accelerate the rate of economic growth it has achieved so far.
Majhi said it would be possible to finalise the draft through the well-thought-out advice and guidance of the council of ministers and accordingly an implementation plan will be charted for successful execution of the targets laid down in the Vision Odisha 2036 and 2047 documents.
He stressed the need for prioritising the infrastructure growth and suggested special plans for expansion of roads and railways networks, ports and air connectivity.
Chief secretary Manoj Ahuja briefed about the need for export-oriented manufacturing to achieve rapid economic growth rate and the need for deregulation, decriminalisation and digitisation for ease of doing business.

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday said that the state government has given top priority to job creation both in the public and private sectors ever since the BJP came to power on June 12 last year. Addressing the newly-appointed officials at a Nijukti Mela here, Majhi said that the government aims to create 1.5 lakh jobs within five years, with 65,000 positions to be filled up in the first two years. As of now, 27,428 government positions have been filled, including the 1,294 appointment letters distributed during the programme on Friday. The chief minister said only two per cent of jobs in the state are in the government while the rest are in the private and industrial sectors. At least 13 lakh jobs will be created in the industrial sector in the coming days. Employment opportunities for 90,000 people have been created within four months of the Utkarsh Odisha conclave, he said.

Odisha cabinet gives nod to new biotech scheme, allocates Rs 1,113 crore
BHUBANESWAR: The state cabinet on Friday approved a new scheme 'Development of Biotechnology' to promote creation of advanced infrastructure for product and service development with an allocation of Rs 1,113.5 crore for a period of five years from 2025-26. The scheme aims to position Odisha as a knowledge-driven bio-economy. The scheme, approved at the meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, will strive to foster collaboration between industry and academia to open up opportunities for biotech applications across various sectors including agriculture, medicine and environment. Chief secretary Manoj Ahuja said with Odisha Biotechnology Policy-2024 in place, the new scheme comprises 17 sub-schemes to promote higher education, research and infrastructure development in the most promising areas of biotechnology. It will also develop and strengthen supportive and vibrant ecosystem for 5Is - Innovation, Incubation, Investment, Income and Impact - to build enterprises and industries, he said. Stating that the scheme will realign academic excellence, skilling and capacity building to meet industry requirements, the chief secretary said it will also promote product and process development, commercialisation and intellectual property monetisation.

Udaygiri block of Gajapati project envisages the construction of a storage reservoir across river Badajore, a tributary of the Vansadhara river, the chief secretary will irrigate about 6,260 hectares of the project will provide the water supply of 31.54 million cubic metres for drinking and domestic requirements for the people of Berhampur town and will also help in fishery development, livestock farming and replenishing the groundwater project will also help generate 36 MW of hydroelectricity along with improving the socio-economic condition of the locality, the chief secretary said.
