Kamala Harris makes unexpected Met Gala appearance

Roya News06-05-2025
Former Vice President Kamala Harris made her first-ever appearance at the Met Gala in New York City, joining husband Doug Emhoff for the star-studded event on Monday night.
While the couple skipped the red carpet, Harris appeared in a custom-designed Off-White gown.
A spokesperson confirmed that Harris attended at the invitation of Vogue editor-in-chief and Met Gala co-chair Anna Wintour. The appearance comes just ahead of a Democratic National Committee (DNC) fundraiser and marks one of Harris' few major public appearances since the 2024 presidential election.
Her Met Gala look drew from the Costume Institute's ongoing exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which celebrates the vibrant legacy of Black dandyism and its ties to identity and resistance. The exhibit, curated by scholar Monica L. Miller and based on her book Slaves to Fashion, explores how Black style has served as a form of empowerment across generations.
The black-and-white silk dress featured an asymmetrical cape sleeve and a flowing scarf—an ensemble that Off-White described as aiming to evoke 'a sense of timelessness.'
'To me the true core of dandyism is rooted in confidence and strength,' Off-White creative director IB Kamara said in a statement. 'There is no person who exemplifies these characteristics more than Kamala D. Harris, someone who has overcome adversity and continues to be a beacon for so many.'

Here's why Ariana Grande skipped the 2025 Met Gala

ALBAWABA - Ariana Grande was noticeably absent from the 2025 Met Gala—here's what may have kept her away. Following the conclusion of the Met Gala for "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," celebrities walked the red carpet with the sole directive to adhere to the "Tailored for You" dress code. But who didn't participate in this year's celebrations? Ariana Grande is that person. This year, Ari's co-stars from Wicked, Cynthia Erivo and Jeff Goldblum, were seen on the Met steps, but the multihyphenate was conspicuously missing from the fashion show. And why? Given that she recently released her deluxe album and short film, Eternal Sunshine: Brighter Days Ahead, she is probably attempting to maintain a low profile. US singer Ariana Grande arrives for the 2024 Met Gala (Photo by Angela WEISS / AFP) The last time Ariana was seen, she was in New York with Ethan Slater, supporting her closest friend Liz Gillies at the Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors. The three were even photographed backstage by photographer Vincenzo Dimino: Ariana is also getting ready for another promotional tour, this time for Wicked: For Good, in case you missed it. During the making of these films, the two became very close friends, and Ariana has talked a lot about their relationship. "It's something that was important to us from the very beginning, to build something real and to know that we could have a safe space in each other for this journey because it was going to be tremendous," she told NPR in February. "We knew it was going to be years and years of some of the hardest work of our lives, and it's something that we started building from the day we were cast. We FaceTimed and congratulated each other, and the announcement happened, and the celebratory dinner happened. I liked her, but it suddenly became extremely real. I contacted them and said, "All right, let's keep in contact and give each other a call while we're looking over the documents. The stakes for this production are going to be quite high, so I want to be there for you and help make sure you have all you need. I also want us to tackle everything together."

Robot DOG makes an appearance at the Met Gala

Ammon News - At New York's Met Gala, guests are known for attention-grabbing outfits, from Katy Perry's human chandelier dress to Kim Kardashian's all-black body suit. But one attendant in particular has stolen the limelight this year – and he's not even human. Indian-American entrepreneur Mona Patel rocked up to the annual event on Monday night with an adorable robotic dachshund in tow. Vector the robo-dog, developed by scientists at MIT, has a 1,000-carat diamond-studded leash and his own cute little specially-fitted tuxedo. Powered by AI and equipped with sensors, Vector has customised movement patterns and 'just the right amount of sass', Vogue India reports. Patel herself wore a custom suit with a cape and corseted bodice from American fashion designer Thom Browne, plus a 3D-printed hat.
