"That, to me, is what Silent Hill truly embodies": Silent Hill f's A-list team now includes legendary series composer Akira Yamaoka
Silent Hill is just as famous for its skin-tingling soundscape as it is for those iconic monster designs, so series enjoyers can now look forward to new music from legendary series composer Akira Yamaoka who's back in the booth for Silent Hill f.
Konami gave its upcoming Japan-set horror game the full blowout yesterday with a full trailer, some of the spookiest monsters in series history, a character reveal, a deliciously scary disclaimer, and more.
Alongside a ton of other information, the publisher also revealed that Yamaoka is back after having written music for every single numbered Silent Hill game, a bunch of spin-offs, and countless other horror projects like Slitterhead, the funky horror-action game from Silent Hill's OG creator. (Plus, the likes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners... this man's resume is extensive.)
"In terms of music, the focus was not on using classical instruments to complement the depiction of the setting or to express the 'old time' of Japan, but rather on capturing the uncanny 'humidity' and 'scent' of Japan itself," Yamaoka writes on social media. "That, to me, is what Silent Hill truly embodies."
"A story set not in modern Japan, but in ancient Japan," he notes. "While its world may feel unfamiliar, it strangely resonates with me as a Japanese person. Within that world, my own soul was nurtured, and I strongly felt how it continues to influence my creative work today."
Yamaoka joins an A-list team that also happens to include famed writer Ryukishi07, who proved he can do spooky and depressing in his beloved horror manga series When They Cry, alongside Dynasty Warriors composer Kensuke Inage and Silent Hill 2 Remake producer Motoi Okamoto.

The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers: broken heart leads to heart trouble for Taylor?

Taylor has been making power moves ever since she and Ridge got back together on The Bold and the Beautiful. But what happens when her world falls apart (again)? Before Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) shipped off to Italy with Eric (John McCook) and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), Taylor (Rebecca Budig) asked him to set a date for their wedding. Prior to that, she asked him to marry her by presenting the ring he gave to her long ago. It's understandable that Taylor would be concerned about her relationship with Ridge. Everyone seems to think Brooke and Ridge were destined to be together, including Eric, who has been working tirelessly in the background to get his son to see the light. During their Italy trip, Ridge jumped into the water to save Brooke after she was knocked from Nick's (Jack Wagner) boat. If he hadn't been there, she would have drowned. After performing CPR and making sure she was all right, he pledged to make everything right, but we have yet to see what he means by that. In the preview for the week of August 11, Taylor tells Ridge that Brooke has a bright future ahead — with Nick. She adds that she's never taking her ring off. This doesn't make Ridge look happy. In fact, he looks downright miserable and we're guessing it's because he knows he has to call off the engagement. Truthfully, Ridge never should have let things get this far but he loves both of the women even though he's only meant to be with one of them. He has kids with both women but his ties to Brooke are, according to the fabric of the canvas, much stronger. After learning about how Ridge saved Brooke's life — and the reason he was on the shore that day to begin with — Taylor will likely surmise that her time with Ridge is limited. But credit to her for not going down with the ship without a fight. When she first arrived in Los Angeles, Taylor thought she was dying but it turned out to be Broken Heart Syndrome. She was diagnosed by Dr. Grace Buckingham (Cassandra Creech), who is in the middle of her own mess after fabricating Liam's (Scott Clifton) entire brain cancer scare to extort a million dollars from his father. (Now we have to wonder, can we trust her diagnosis? That's a whole other can of worms…) Knowing that she's prone to Broken Heart Syndrome, and knowing how those symptoms mirror actual heart issues, we have to wonder what will happen if/when Ridge calls off their engagement. With Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) out of town and most of the women around her tied to Brooke, Taylor won't have a lot of people she can turn to and if her symptoms start getting serious, she could be in trouble. We have a feeling that Ridge calling off the engagement will send Taylor into a spiral, and that will put him into an even bigger quandary as he tries to reconcile his feelings for both women while admitting that he messed up by leaving Brooke in the first place. She may have had Broken Heart Syndrome in the beginning, but something even more serious could put Taylor's health in jeopardy. The Vegan Experiment Is Over at Eleven Madison Park
is the lead editor of the Northeast region with more than 20 years of experience as a reporter, critic, editor, and cookbook author. The chef who once recast the three-Michelin-star destination as a temple to plant-based luxury will soon run dual menus. Starting on Tuesday, October 14, EMP will offer one vegan, and one with select animal proteins, which marks the return of fish and meats such as the signature honey-lavender-glazed duck. 'I have some anxiety that people are going to say, 'Oh, he's a hypocrite,' but I know that the best way to continue to champion plant-based cooking is to let everyone participate around the table,' Humm told the New York Times. From crusade to compromise When Daniel Humm reopened Eleven Madison Park in 2021 with a fully vegan menu, he didn't just swap butter for almond milk: he positioned it as a moral and creative crusade. He told NPR: 'I believe that if the meal is delicious, we don't need to worry about it. I think people will buy into it. I think if we want to really push the envelope, this is the place where we have to do it.' Starting during the pandemic, EMP's kitchen engineered meringue without eggs, almond-milk ricotta, and Japanese 'land caviar' made from dried seeds. The gamble paid off — at least in accolades. In 2022, EMP became the first restaurant in the world to earn three Michelin stars for a fully vegan menu. But Humm's all-or-nothing vegan approach wasn't universally embraced. 'This $1,000 dinner for two,' wrote former Eater critic Ryan Sutton, 'is not going to change the world. It is not a redefining of luxury, or anything close to it. Omnivores have long been seeking out accessible yet ambitious vegetarian and vegan fare, and Humm, based on a mid-August meal, doesn't yet appear to fully possess the palate, acumen, or cultural awareness to successfully manipulate vegetables or, when necessary, to let them speak for themselves.' In addition, the switch caused some alleged internal conflicts and negative online reviews, as well as the rise of a supposed 'secret beef room,' former Times critic Pete Wells revealed in his brutal review. The walk-back Humm's explanation for the introduction of some seafood, duck, and perhaps chicken is this: 'While we had built something meaningful, we had also unintentionally kept people out. This is the opposite of what we believe hospitality to be.' He now says he wants to 'create an environment where everyone feels welcome around the table.' It's a revealing sentiment: If the point of the vegan pivot was climate impact, animal welfare, and rewriting the fine-dining playbook, then this about-face makes it harder to see that original decision as anything but theater: an experiment that didn't quite fill the seats. He also said to the Times that 'over the past year has found it increasingly harder to sustain the level of creativity and labor required. Bookings for private events, an essential stream of income, have been particularly sparse,' and wine sales were also down. A broader empire in motion Humm's not just tinkering with EMP's menu. Last year, he opened the also-vegan Clemente Bar, a jewel-box lounge upstairs from the restaurant's dining room, and now, he's working on a new downtown restaurant. For a chef approaching his 20th anniversary at EMP, the timing of the pivot — alongside expansion — positions the change as perhaps a strategic move to broaden the customer base and diversify the appeal of the brand. Eater has reached out about the changeover for EMP. From crusade to choice Humm insists the plant-based menu will remain an option, just no longer the only option. But the tonal about-face is striking: from moral urgency to menu flexibility in under half a decade. And above all, it's a reflection of these times. Although when it comes to veganism, with restaurants like the well-funded Kernel abandoning it after a year, it may always be a Sisyphean effort. 'I admire the boldness of the move,' Ariane Daguin, the owner and CEO of D'Artagnan, told Eater in 2021. 'But deep down, I don't think it will last. Hikaru Utada Will Add the ‘Chainsaw Man' Movie to Their Anime Song Infinity Gauntlet
A teaser trailer for a song typically doesn't make waves, but when it's tied to a hotly anticipated theatrical release like Mappa's Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, it certainly might. Especially when it's graced by the dulcet tones of Hikaru Utada, a singer whose presence in the anime industry is nothing short of musical royalty. Previous trailers for the film adaptation of manga creator Tatsuki Fujimoto's Reze Arc leaned hard into spectacle with blazing eruptions, feverish glimpses of Denji's fantasies about the domineering Makima, and the explosive arrival of the new girl on the block, Reze, all set to the pulse of the series' artist Kenshi Yonezu's music. But Mappa's latest preview shifts gears entirely, trading chaos for a quiet, melancholic, tender, wistful tone that aligns with longing. And to seal that emotional shift, Mappa teased the inclusion of legendary J-pop and R&B singer Utada to the final mix, tying together its sonic identity. The new Reze Arc teaser, which lasts just over 30 seconds, features a serene sequence of images. It shows streaks trailing behind a plane, as well as Reze and Denji spending time together in a café and at a school at night. There's also a scene of them relaxing on the beach. Accompanied by the soothing sounds of waves and music, the teaser showcases the voice of Utada, followed by the title card for their song with Yonezu, aptly titled 'Jane Doe.' Picking up where the 2022 anime left off (with a fleeting glimpse of Reze in its final moments), the upcoming film adapts the entirety of her arc in the manga, which introduces the purple-haired lady both as a new romantic spark and a literal ticking time bomb adversary in Denji's hard-knocks life. As the Bomb Devil, she's not just a new adversary for Denji and the devil hunters to snuff out; she's also a contradiction wrapped in allure, danger, and romance for the terminally down-on-his-luck protagonist sincerely trying to sort out his Mazlaw's hierarchy of needs. All of which makes the title of Utada's song even more apropos, given the nature of her enigmatic role and emotional impact as a new presence threatening a paradigm shift in Denji's life. For those who might be unfamiliar with their talents, Utada is akin to musical caviar atop any project they're attached to. Chief among these are songs for Square Enix and Disney's Kingdom Hearts series, including timeless tracks such as 'Simple and Clean' and 'Sanctuary.' Utada is also a household name in anime circles, lending her voice to the soundtrack of director Hideaki Anno's Neon Genesis Evangelion rebuild film quadrilogy, the last of which is Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, with the song 'One Last Kiss.' In other words, Mappa adding Utada to the final mix of Reze Arc's sonic identity only adds to the already atmospheric hype that precedes the film's release. Folks will have to look forward to seeing how Denji and Reze's story plays out when Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc hits theaters in Japan September 19 and elsewhere internationally on September 24, before hitting the U.S. on October 29.
