‘Mamma Mia!' fans can enjoy a Mediterranean pre-theater dinner this summer

Time Out2 days ago
'Mamma Mia!' fans are eagerly awaiting its return to Broadway. When it arrives, they'll have the option of visiting a nearby restaurant for a Mediterranean pre-theater dinner.
Coming back to thrill audiences this summer for a limited engagement, the popular play takes place on a made-up Greek island and centers on a woman named Sophie. It's the day before her wedding, and she has aspirations to have her father walk her down the aisle. There's a twist, though. She doesn't know who her dad is. Hilarity, heartfelt moments, and musical numbers ensue.
First appearing on Broadway in 2001, this play has mesmerized and entertained countless people for more than two decades. It's returning (beginning with previews on August 2) with an opening night of August 14 at the Winter Garden Theatre. It will run until February 1, 2026. If you have tickets, instead of simply strolling into the theatre with a rumbly, empty stomach, you can stop by IRIS, Chef John Fraser's Greek concept in Midtown, for a curated, themed, pre-theater dinner.
Located within a five-minute walk of the Winter Garden Theatre, IRIS will be offering a three-course pre-theater 'Mamma Mia!'-themed menu for $60 per person. Starters include a Greek wedge salad with baby iceberg lettuce, chickpeas, and a feta-dill dressing, spiced lamb flatbread with chili, sumac, and cilantro, or grilled octopus with antep chili-tomato spice, kumquat spoon sweet. Entrees include wild mushroom pastitsio, grilled branzino, or saffron-yogurt roasted chicken. Desserts designed to be shared with the whole table include pistachio baklava and Aegean sweets.
This theater-themed menu features more than mouthwatering food. It also features a trio of tiny 'Mamma Mia'-themed martinis priced at $28 for all three, or $10 each. These include Donna's Martini, made with Perry's Tot Gin, Roots Mastic Vintage Strength, and olive bitters; Sophie's Martini, a Pistachio Lemon Drop; and Rosie and Tanya's Martini, a take on a strawberry rhubarb daiquiri.
So, if you're planning to attend "Mamma Mia!" on Broadway this summer, make a reservation at IRIS for an epic Greek feast that will prepare you for the music and wonder to come. You'll be glad you did and so will your stomach.

Victoria Beckham straddles shirtless husband David in steamy yacht moment

Victoria and David Beckham reminded the world what A-list romance looks like this week, sharing a steamy moment aboard their £16 million yacht off the coast of Saint-Tropez. Nearly 25 years after tying the knot, Posh and Becks were photographed in a passionate embrace on the top deck. Victoria was straddling her shirtless husband, the two locked in a lingering embrace as the Mediterranean sun beamed down. The pair, both in their early 50s, proved that time and family tensions haven't dimmed their spark. After a high-profile summer hosting friends like Gordon and Tana Ramsay and longtime pal Eva Longoria, the Beckhams managed to steal some alone time. David, 50, showed off his famously sculpted abs while cooling off in the yacht's outdoor shower following the intimate cuddle session. But not everything aboard the yacht has been picture-perfect. The absence of their eldest son Brooklyn, 26, has only intensified speculation about a growing rift within the Beckham family. Brooklyn was notably absent from David's star-studded 50th birthday celebrations in May and did not join the rest of the family on this luxury holiday, despite vacationing in the same region just days earlier with wife Nicola Peltz and her family. Photos showed Brooklyn leaving the south of France shortly before his parents and siblings arrived, seemingly sidestepping a possible run-in. Meanwhile, the younger Beckham kids appeared to be enjoying the break. Romeo and 14-year-old Harper joined their parents early in the trip, later welcoming Cruz, 20, and his girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30. The family were seen zipping to shore on a smaller boat for beachside excursions, while Brooklyn remained noticeably out of frame. Rumours of a rift in the family started when Brooklyn and Nicola married in 2022, with reports of tension between her and Victoria Beckham, 51, however talk died down when the pair put on a united front at public events. More Trending However, eyebrows were raised once more when Brooklyn and Nicola failed to make an appearance at David's 50th birthday bash – nor did he, in typical Beckham fashion, send his dad a birthday message on social media. Further fuel was added to the fire when just a short time after this snub, Brooklyn wished Nicola's dad a happy birthday on Instagram. However, Brooklyn – who also posed a cryptic social media video about how he would 'always choose' Nicola – put the alleged drama aside to pay tribute to youngest sibling Harper on her 14th birthday last week. The reason behind the rumored rift is currently unclear, but it has been claimed that Victoria is 'desperate' for things to be patched up between her once-close family. Got a story? Sophie Cunningham sends message to WNBA fans after sex toy brings another game to a halt

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has spoken out after a WNBA game was halted by a sex toy for the second time in a week. On Friday evening, the Chicago Sky's game against the Golden State Valkyries was disrupted after an inappropriate object was thrown from the stands onto the court. The bizarre scenes left fans, players, coaches and commentators shocked, while officials swiftly dealt with the fluorescent green object that interfered with play. The shocking incident came just days after the Valkyries game against the Atlanta Dream was similarly brought to a stop after a sex toy was thrown from the stands. Now, Cunningham has had enough. The Indiana Fever star took to social media to vent about the issue, shortly after the incident in Chicago on Friday night. The Fever star said: 'stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us'. Cunningham called for fans to 'stop throwing' the sex items onto the court in WNBA games The post on X went viral and garnered over three million views on the social media platform in the space of three hours. While no one has actually been hit by the provocative projectiles yet, Cunningham raises a fair point that it could potentially injure a player. On Friday night, after the sex toy was thrown, officials swiftly stopped the game and swept it aside, as players and coaches stood bemused at the bizarre incident. The commentators were equally as puzzled as they said: 'We have a whistle away from the basketball. An object has been thrown onto the court'. Sky star Kamilla Cardoso, however, evidently saw the funny side to the incident after being seen giggling with teammates while they game was brought to a stop. Officials eventually swept the fluorescent green object to the side before one team member picked it up - using a towel - and disposed of it. Cunningham, meanwhile, had made headlines of her own recently after she claimed that those who believe Caitlin Clark is not the face of the WNBA are 'dumb as f***'. Since her arrival in the league last year, Clark has dominated on the court and, as a result, has often found herself targeted by her WNBA rivals and fans on social media. Last month, after Clark found herself embroiled in another on-court scuffle, it was Cunningham who retaliated and fought back for her Fever teammate. Now, Cunningham has taken her defense of Clark to the next level after she ripped into the 23-year-old's doubters during a recent podcast. Speaking on the Show Me Something podcast, Cunningham said: 'It literally p****s me off when people say she isn't the face of the league. 'There's really good, well known people in our league - I'm not discrediting them. We have a lot of bad a**es in our league [and] I'm all for that. 'But when people try to argue that she's not the face of our league, you're dumb as s***. You're literally dumb as f***'. Though many have tried to discredit Clark's talent and hard work on the court, her growing status was best illustrated by the fact she was named an All-Star captain.

Inside the Italian island celebs are choosing over St Tropez - and it's also home to Princess Diana's favourite hotel

There's a glamorous Italian island that celebrities are flocking to instead of other dreamy locations like St Tropez and Monaco. Sardinia has become the destination of choice for A-listers and the ultra-wealthy. With spectacular beaches, crystal clear waters and a rich history, it's no wonder the Mediterranean island is attracting stars - desperate to tie the knot. Last summer, Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos and his now wife, Lauren Sanchez, soaked up the sun in Sardinia, after sailing around aboard Bezos' Koru superyacht. They were accompanied by Leonardo DiCaprio, his girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, as well as Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. Sardinia is where on-off couple Tom Brady and Irina Shayk first met too, reportedly 'clicking' at the lavish $13 million wedding of billionaire Joe Nahmad in May 2023. Tom and Irina partied alongside famous faces like tennis pros Serena and Venus Williams, designer Tommy Hilfiger, and actor Leonardo DiCaprio It's also been said at President Joe Biden's daughter Ashley Biden was in attendance, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton, according to a local news outlet. The ceremony took place in a structure built at the foot of Monte Moro. It began in the afternoon and went on until 'late at night,' the publication reported. It was followed by a celebration at the glamorous Hotel Cala di Volpe in the coastal area of Costa Smeralda - where rooms cost a whopping $3,924 a night - the following day. Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson and Ramona Agruma also tied the knot in Sardinia last September too, in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their nearest and dearest. As for other stars visiting the island, Paris Hilton went on a luxurious yachting trip to Sardinia with her children in June. And last year, British actress Gemma Arterton was spotted enjoying a local beach. Now, Jennifer Lopez is confirmed to be jetting there this summer. The American singer and songwriter will be performing at Cala di Volpe's annual August Gala. The Gala Night is a highlight of the season, with Mariah Carey headlining last year, and Imagine Dragons the year before the. But that's not the starriest part of the hotel, located near Pontili e Gavitelli and Costa Smeralda. With spectacular beaches, crystal clear waters and a rich history, it's no wonder the Mediterranean island is attracting stars The property featured in the James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me, as Bond (Sir Roger Moore) and Soviet agent Triple-X Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) were seen walking through the hotel The property featured in the James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me, as Bond (Sir Roger Moore) and Soviet agent Triple-X Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) were seen walking through the hotel. Other A-list guests who've frequented the venue include Beyonce, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom and Justin Bieber. Princess Diana visited Cala di Volpe too, and reportedly said it was her favourite hotel. The royal stayed in the mega suite, which now costs $40,000 (£30k) per night, with Dodi Al-Fayed during their last holiday together back in 1997. In keeping with the glamorous island and its guests, Dolce & Gabbana partnered with DG Resort to transform Cala di Volpe this summer.
