Aamir Khan reveals he rejected Shah Rukh's Swades because he found the script ‘boring': Maine ab tak film dekhi nahi hai

Aamir Khan worked with director Ashutosh Gowariker in Lagaan, which was a huge critical and commercial success. The film even went on to earn an Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category. At the time, Ashutosh was also planning to make his next film with Aamir, and narrated the script of Swades to him. In an interview with Zoom, Aamir has shared why he refused to do the film and revealed that he still has not seen it. (Also read: Will Mahabharat be Aamir Khan's last film? During the interaction, Aamir shared the story of why he refused to do Swades. He said, 'I found it very boring! I had said this to Ashu when he narrated the whole story to me. In fact, I'll tell you; Ashu narrated the story to me when we were making Lagaan. It was titled Kaveri Amma then. That's what he told me.' Kaveri Amma was the name of Mohan Bhargava's foster mother in the film, which was later titled Swades.
Aamir went on to add, 'It was a three-hour-long narration. When he asked me how I liked it, I said I want to tell you my first reaction first. I said, 'I got bored. It's very important for you to hear this reaction. Ki tera thought kitna bhi noble hain, aur jo tu kehna cha raha hain woh bohot hi sahi cheez hain, aur bohot zaroori bhi hain, lekin itne boring tarike se kahega toh mujhe maza nahi aayega. Baki ka mujhe pata nahi hain but main bore ho gaya hoon. Aapko isko interesting karna hain. Actually maine ab tak film dekhi nahi hain Swades. Toh shayad usne correct kiya hoga… Logo ko Shah Rukh ka kaam khaas pasand aya tha maine ye note kiya tha (What you're trying to say is very correct, noble. It is important, but if you say this in such a boring manner, I got bored, I don't know about anyone else. I actually haven't seen the film yet, he'd have corrected it, and people would've liked it then. I did note that the audience really loved Shah Rukh's work in it).'
Swades is considered by many to be the best performance of Shah Rukh's career. The film also won two National Awards.
Fan will see Aamir next in Sitaare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film is a remake of the Spanish movie Campeones. It will release in theatres on June 20.

Abhishek Banerjee On Growing Up With Censorship: ‘Starts From School'

Last Updated: Abhishek Banerjee pointed out that the idea of censorship has been a part of everyone's life from a very young age. Abhishek Banerjee recently spoke about the ongoing discussion on censorship in movies and OTT shows. He pointed out that the idea of censorship has been a part of our lives from a very young age. He explained that we have moved from simple scenes like showing flowers to openly showing kisses on screen. Still, the actor feels there are many limits. Banerjee also mentioned that even in daily life, from childhood, people are taught which words are okay to use and which ones are not. In an interview with Zoom, Banerjee said, 'I'm saying that we've gone from just showing flowers to now showing on screen kisses. And apart from words like abuse, fool, tomato, potato, we grow up. After appearing in Stolen, Abhishek Banerjee is now seen in Rana Naidu season 2. As per Netflix, 'This season, the stakes are higher. The danger is personal. The past demands payment. Can Rana tame the storm called Rauf? Or is this the one fix that will break him for good? The clock is ticking. The walls are closing in. And for the Naidus, it's war—with Rauf at their heels." Real life uncle and nephew, Rana Daggubati and Venkatesh Daggubati, are back as father and son. Joining them in the cast are Surveen Chawla, Kriti Kharbanda, Sushant Singh and Dino Morea. ‘Kajra Re was the worst-rated in Bunty aur Babli, marketing team called it…': Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy on how Aishwarya-Amitabh-Abhishek song got popularity

Bunty Aur Babli's 'Kajra Re' may be one of those rare songs that refuses to age, but the song received a big thumbs down from the suits at Yash Raj before its release, recalled musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. In a new conversation, Ehsaan Noorani revealed that after an internal evaluation, the song which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, with lyrics by Gulzar, landed on bottom of the list. The trio have shaped the soundscape of Bollywood for more than two decades. They have scored movies like Dil Chahta Hai (2001), My Name is Khan (2010), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) and Rock On (2008), just to name a few. They have also composed the music for Aamir Khan's upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par and its 2007 prequel Taare Zameen Par. In a recent interview, the trio talked about their Bollywood projects and what all transpires behind the scenes when they are composing an album for a film. While making an appearance on the YouTube channel Just Filmy Things, the trio shed some light on their previous work. Ehsaan Noorani shared an anecdote about the song Kajra Re from the film Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and how the marketing team of the film initially did not give the song its due. He said, 'They did an internal evaluation about which song from the film will do well, and Kajra Re was at the bottom of the list. A bunch of people from marketing came together and gave feedback after listening to the song. It just so happened that 4 days after the song came out, I was coming out of the Mumbai airport, and a wedding band was already playing 'Kajra Re.'' Ehsaan also talked about how choosing Alisha Chinai to sing the female part of the song was an unprecedented move, but it still elevated the song to a new level. Shankar said, 'He is there all the time, and he is almost like a kid.' One time he called Amitabh Bhattacharya (lyricist) while he was vacationing in Kashmir and told him to rework the lyrics of a song.' The 'Breathless' singer added that many times Aamir will like the rough take of the song more and will decide to keep it in the movie, and that is what happened with 'Maa' from Taare Zameen Par and 'Good For Nothing' from Sitaare Zameen Par. 'If something clicks for Aamir, then nothing can be changed in it.' Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par will see Aamir play the role of a basketball coach who has been tasked with teaching the game to a group of neurodivergent kids. The cast of the film includes Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain and Ashish Pendse, among others. The music has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, while the background score and lyrics of the songs are the creation of Ram Sampath and Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film releases on June 20.

Zoe Saldana declares her Oscar to be gender-fluid with pronouns they/them

Hollywood actress Zoe Saldana is a bleeding-heart liberal, and she is not afraid to show it to the world. The actress has gone a step further, and has introduced her Oscar trophy as 'gender fluid'. Earlier this year, the actress, 46, took home the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in 'Emilia Perez', which marked her first-ever Academy Award, reports 'People' magazine. At the Los Angeles premiere of her latest movie on June 10, Elio, she revealed what the statuette has been up to since. As per 'People', after Saldana was asked where she now keeps the award, the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star said, 'We have it in my office and my Oscar is gender fluid'. She also revealed a bit more about the shiny, gold statuette, adding that it's 'trans' and 'goes by they/them'. In 'Emilia Perez', a Spanish-language musical and crime drama, the actress portrays Rita, a lawyer who is tasked with helping the movie's titular character (Karla Sofía Gascon) obtain a gender-affirming surgery to escape life as a cartel boss. 'Elio', meanwhile, centers around 'Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession', as per Disney. Saldana stars as Olga Solis in the Pixar/Disney film, which helps her get 'cool points' with her sons, she previously revealed. 'Since becoming a parent, incorporating what I do, my art, into a genre that caters to children has always been a great interest to me', Saldana said on Good Morning America earlier this month. 'And I get to relate to them, and I also get some mad cool points as a mom', she added during the appearance, 'my 8-year-old cannot wait for Elio to come out'.
