The Cardinals' spring roster has 106 players, one over the roster limit of 105. With 12 more student-athletes (11 freshmen and a graduate transfer) set to join the team over the summer, Ball State finds itself in a difficult position where some players will have to leave to create necessary space.

Christian Davis, RB
Running back Christian Davis became the first Ball State football player to announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal during the spring window. He announced his decision on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday.
Davis joined Ball State as a freshman in 2023 but sustained a knee injury in fall camp, which forced him to take a redshirt for his first year. Last season, he rushed for 11 yards on 11 carries and had one catch for three yards while playing behind the likes of Braedon Sloan, Vaughn Pemberton, and TJ Horton.

With the additions of Qua Ashley and Elijah Jackson from the winter portal, as well as the returns of Horton and Jalen Alexander, Davis was seemingly the odd man out in the running back room. He enters the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.
Ball State running back Christian Davis runs the ball during the Ball State football Spring Showcase at Scheumann Stadium on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Auburn football lands commitment from three-star 2026 athlete
Auburn football lands commitment from three-star 2026 athlete After a going through a commitment drought, Auburn landed a quality back from Mississippi on Monday. It has been over two months since Auburn football has landed a commitment for its 2026 recruiting class. That changed Monday as a three-star athlete from Mississippi announced his pledge to Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers. Eric Perry, a three-star athlete from Desoto Central High School in Southaven, Mississippi, made the announcement Monday after taking an official visit to the Plains over the weekend. Perry has received offers from Jackson State, North Alabama, and Sacremento State, among others. However, he could not turn down an offer from the program the caliber of Auburn, and jumped at the first opportunity. "I just wanted to play at the highest level in the SEC," Perry said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. "I really didn't want to play anywhere else. They had reached out to me and I was real excited because my cousin played at Mississippi State and so to me, that was the standard for where I had to be. It was really the first time I came here." Perry is an elite talent with the skill set to play multiple positions. He plays quarterback for Desoto Central, however, Auburn plans to use him as a running back. The 6-0, 195-pound speedster has rushed for 1600 yards and 18 scores over the last two seasons as a quarterback, while passing for 2,832 yards and 19 touchdowns in that same time frame. Perry is the No. 35 player from Mississippi according to 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 cycle, and is the No. 87 overall athlete from the class. He is the eighth player to commit to Auburn's 2026 class, and is the first running back to do so. CB Jaire Alexander released by Green Bay Packers: Should the Arizona Cardinals pursue him?
CB Jaire Alexander released by Green Bay Packers: Should the Arizona Cardinals pursue him? A look at whether the Cardinals might pull the trigger on trying to acquire recently released CB Jaire Alexander. An intriguing veteran cornerback option hit the free agent market on Monday. The Green Bay Packers released cornerback Jaire Alexander. Alexander is 28 years old and a two-time Pro Bowler with 12 career interceptions. He has made second-team All-Pro twice. However, he also missed 10 games in each of the last two seasons. The Cardinals have a lack of experience at cornerback currently. They lost Sean Murphy-Bunting for the season to an offseason knee injury that required surgery, and they placed him on the non-football injury reserve. It was reported that they could add a veteran cornerback to the roster. Could Alexander be that guy? Should the Arizona Cardinals pursue and sign CB Jaire Alexander? The talent is undeniable. Even in only seven games last season, he picked off two passes and broke up seven. He would definitely be better than Star Thomas, if healthy. Imagine having Alexander along with Garrett Williams, Max Melton and rookie Will Johnson. That would make for a formidable group. The problem is the other stuff. He is funny, but he can be a distraction. He once, when he was not a team captain, went to the middle of the field for the coin toss, made the call and then, after winning the toss, almost messed things up for the Packers when he didn't directly say they wanted to defer until the second half. It happened in Carolina against the Panthers. He said his teammates backed him up, but it wasn't endorsed by the coaches. If there is one thing that Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon has preached as the No. 1 tenet for players, it is to put team over self. Would the Cardinals risk investing in an oft-injured player with a selfish streak? It could pay off, but then it would mean pushing a player they like off the roster. A guy like Thomas would be pushed into a special teams role, pushing rookie Denzel Burke perhaps off the roster. While Alexander is talented and likely an upgrade over guys on the roster, it seems unlikely they would pull the trigger on him right now.
