Ball State football spring transfer portal tracker: Who's in, who's out for the Cardinals?
(This story will be continuously updated.)
With spring practices coming to an end, Ball State football must now turn its attention back to the transfer portal.
The 10-day spring transfer portal window opens Wednesday, April 16, and will remain open until Friday, April 25. Though some players around the country have already announced their intentions to transfer, they cannot officially enter the portal until Wednesday.

The Cardinals' spring roster has 106 players, one over the roster limit of 105. With 12 more student-athletes (11 freshmen and a graduate transfer) set to join the team over the summer, Ball State finds itself in a difficult position where some players will have to leave to create necessary space.

Christian Davis, RB
Running back Christian Davis became the first Ball State football player to announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal during the spring window. He announced his decision on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday.
Davis joined Ball State as a freshman in 2023 but sustained a knee injury in fall camp, which forced him to take a redshirt for his first year. Last season, he rushed for 11 yards on 11 carries and had one catch for three yards while playing behind the likes of Braedon Sloan, Vaughn Pemberton, and TJ Horton.

With the additions of Qua Ashley and Elijah Jackson from the winter portal, as well as the returns of Horton and Jalen Alexander, Davis was seemingly the odd man out in the running back room. He enters the portal with three years of eligibility remaining.
Ball State running back Christian Davis runs the ball during the Ball State football Spring Showcase at Scheumann Stadium on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Former Badgers star garnering interest from the defending NBA champions

When it comes to the Wisconsin Badgers over the last decade, the most memorable team is easily the 2014-15 group that went 36-4 and made it to the National Championship Game, ultimately falling short to the Duke Blue Devils. That team had quite a few talented players, with four making it to the NBA: Sam Dekker, Frank Kaminsky, Duje Dukan, and Nigel Hayes-Davis. Kaminsky was a lottery pick to the Charlotte Hornets, while Dekker went No. 18 overall to the Houston Rockets. Both Dukan and Hayes-Davis ended up going undrafted, but secured NBA contracts. Unfortunately, all four players are out of the NBA now, as the Badgers don't have much of a presence in the league anymore. Johnny Davis was the latest to get drafted, going No. 10 overall to the Washington Wizards in the 2022 NBA Draft. But, he struggled in three seasons with the team, earning very limited minutes before being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies this past season. Davis was later waived and signed with the New York Knicks G-League team in March. Currently, Micah Potter is the lone former Badger in the NBA. After going undrafted in 2021 and spending time in the G-League with the Detroit Pistons and the Utah Jazz, he had his best season yet for the latter squad, playing in 38 games in 2024. However, Potter could be joined soon by another former Badger as Nigel Hayes-Davis has been picking up some traction from his time at Fenerbahce. Davis had a stellar season, averaging a career-high 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, while leading his team to their second EuroLeague Championship last month. Hayes-Davis caught the eyes of Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzula, who, according to EuroHoops, made the trek out to see him play in the playoffs last month. At 30 years old, Hayes-Davis could be a low-cost option for the Celtics off the bench, as the forward has developed his shooting (41 percent from three this season), while stacking together several strong seasons overseas. If he's given the opportunity, Hayes-Davis could be the second Badger to join the NBA ranks this summer, as star wing John Tonje is also currently projected to be drafted later this month. Nebraska lands commitment from offensive tackle Rex Waterman

Nebraska lands commitment from offensive tackle Rex Waterman Nebraska football landed a commitment on Tuesday from class of 2026 three-star offensive tackle Rex Waterman. He made the announcement on social media Tuesday afternoon. He is the 103rd overall offensive tackle in the 2026 class and the 21st overall player in his class from the state of Arizona, according to the On3 industry rankings. Waterman has made three visits to Lincoln in the past year. He took his first unofficial visit to the program on February 1, and then followed that up with a visit on April 5. He took an official visit this past weekend, in what was a busy weekend for the program. The Arizona native measures in at six feet five, 295 pounds. This is a solid addition for the Huskers' 2026 class that should see some movement over the next couple of weeks. The class itself ranks 60th overall in the country with five commitments, per On3 Rankings. Waterman is a prospect who could fly under the radar and become a dependable piece of the offensive line in the future. Phoenix Suns' Devin Booker survives Flagstaff 'ambush' by kids, praised for act of kindness

Devin Booker seems to always find time for young fans. Even when golfing. An Instagram post is circulating of the Phoenix Suns star recently stopping in a golf cart in Flagstaff to give some young fans some attention, many of whom were wearing his jersey. Advertisement The video included the caption: "So this happened yesterday……. I got to watch these kiddos meet their idol, a moment that just sticks with you. The pure joy on their faces was like actual magic!! "And Devin… what a class act. He was so kind, patient he's an absolute gem of a human. Also, sorry for the mid-golf ambush Boook." This isn't the first time Booker has made some children's day (or year) with an act of kindness. In April, he bought golf balls from some children in Flagstaff, apparently working on his golf game some more in the cooler weather. And just a day prior to that, he stopped to purchase lemonade at some children's lemonade stand in the Valley. No wonder Booker is loved in Phoenix. Devin Booker continues to take time for the community. Reach Jeremy Cluff at Follow him on X, formerly Twitter @Jeremy_Cluff. Advertisement Support local journalism: Subscribe to today.
