How did LSU football star LBs Harold Perkins Jr., Whit Weeks look during first practice?
The linebacker duo took the field for the Tigers' first preseason practice Wednesday morning, the first time the two have practiced alongside one another in nearly a year.
"Presence," LSU coach Brian Kelly said following LSU's practice about having Weeks and Perkins back. "We all appreciate that it's Day 1 and we're trying to get our feet in the ground and play football, but presence is impactful.

In September, Perkins went down against UCLA in LSU's fourth game last season with an ACL tear and missed the remainder of the 2024 campaign. His injury forced Weeks into more of a prominent role within the Tigers' defense and he flourished, leading the team in tackles and clearing the next defender by nearly 40 stops.
In the Texas Bowl in December, Weeks suffered a dislocated ankle, which needed surgery to repair.
Both Perkins and Weeks missed spring practice and some more time this offseason going through rehab, but they have arrived at preseason practice fully healthy. The tandem were both named to the Dick Butkus Award preseason watch list Wednesday, an award that goes to college football's top linebacker.
"When somebody is not around in a room, you can kind of feel the temperature change a little bit. The temperature is a little bit different when those two guys are in the room," Kelly said.
"It's hard to replace great players but it's even harder to replace great leaders and those guys lead by example and make a huge difference."

Zach McKinstry led off the fifth with his ninth triple, but Brown escaped the inning with a groundball, a strikeout and a fly out. The start of the game was delayed 35 minutes by rain. The Astros nearly took the lead in the fourth inning, but Torres' relay throw to the plate was in time to erase Yainer Diaz at the plate. Houston challenged the call, and initial replays seemed to show Diaz's hand got to the plate before Dingler made the tag, but the call was confirmed by New York. The crowd of 30,770 gave the Tigers a season attendance of 1,893,473 through 65 games. Last season, they drew 1,858,295. They have already sold enough tickets to reach 2 million for the first time since 2017. Tigers RHP Charlie Morton (8-10, 5.20 ERA) faces LHP Framber Valdez (11-6, 3.01) on Wednesday.

After seven years with the Yankees, Torres elected free agency and signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Detroit Tigers before this season. That proved to be the right choice, as he started his first All-Star game this summer and has helped lead the Tigers to the top of the AL Central with a 73-53 record. Torres has a slash line of .261/.357/.401 this season with 13 homers and 58 RBI through 111 games. The Tigers will certainly need that type of production as they begin a three-game series vs. the Houston Astros—who lead the AL West—at Comerica Park tonight. The two teams haven't faced each other since late April, when the Astros took two out of three games in Houston.
