"In 2026, BJP Rule Is Certain In Tamil Nadu," Says Amit Shah. DMK Hits Back
Chennai:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on a high-stakes visit to Tamil Nadu, delivered a fiery address in Madurai, asserting that the BJP-led alliance will form the government in the state after the 2026 Assembly elections.
In a speech heavily loaded with political messaging, Mr Shah predicted a BJP resurgence not only in Tamil Nadu but also in West Bengal.
"The people of Tamil Nadu are waiting to throw out the corrupt DMK regime. In 2026, BJP rule is certain in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal," Mr Shah said, adding, "My eyes and ears are on Tamil Nadu."
The Home Minister also invoked Operation Sindoor, hailing it as a turning point that showcased India's military assertiveness under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"When Pakistan launched missiles and drones, our response showed the world India's strength. Our forces flew 100 km into Pakistan and carried out surgical strikes," Mr Shah said, while emphasising the Modi government's push for self-reliance in defence.
Mr Shah claimed the mission had triggered "a groundswell of support" from Tamil Nadu and noted that it had even sparked discussions among youth about indigenous defence projects like the Cauvery engine.
Accusing the ruling DMK of widespread corruption and administrative failure, Mr Shah said, "This government has not fulfilled even 10% of its election promises. From illicit liquor deaths to a Rs 39,000 crore scam in TASMAC, the DMK is 100% a failed government."
He accused the Stalin-led government of misusing Central funds and failing to implement key development schemes. "Modi's funds are not reaching the people of Tamil Nadu; they are being diverted by the DMK," he alleged.
Claiming the ruling DMK has fulfilled only 10% of its poll promises, he also challenged Chief Minister MK Stalin to share the list of fulfilled poll promises and questioned the state's reluctance to promote higher education, including engineering education, in Tamil.
Positioning the 2026 Tamil Nadu polls as a key battleground, Mr Shah said, "This is the most important field for every BJP worker. Raise your hands and pledge victory."
He pointed to BJP's recent electoral gains - winning Odisha, retaining Haryana, and returning to power in Delhi after 26 years - as indicators of the party's momentum under Modi's third term.
Mr Shah remained silent, however, on contentious issues like the Centre's withholding of Rs 2,152 crore for government schools in Tamil Nadu due to non-adoption of the National Education Policy (NEP), and the looming delimitation exercise.
Amit Shah did not speak about concerns over delimitation by Tamil Nadu and southern states as any population-based Delimitation would reduce the present proportion of representation of these states in parliament.
Despite earlier assurances, the lack of clarity on whether Tamil Nadu's 7.2% representation in Parliament would be protected has sparked concern. Chief Minister MK Stalin has warned against a population-based delimitation that could penalise southern states like Tamil Nadu that succeeded in population control and would reward northern states that failed in this.
The DMK hit back on Amit Shah's claims. Dr Syed Hafeezullah, the party's spokesperson, said, "Even in the USA the BJP may have a remote possibility to capture power, but not in Tamil Nadu. On the Rs 39000 crore scam, the BJP must be living in a fanciful world".
This was Mr Shah's second visit to Tamil Nadu after BJP's state leadership change - replacing K Annamalai with Nainar Nagendran.
The visit also comes as BJP revives its alliance with the AIADMK, though ground-level coordination between cadres remains a challenge.
The party also faces turbulence with its ally PMK, facing an ongoing tussle between senior and junior Ramadoss. Another NDA partner, DMDK, has expressed disenchantment over being denied a Rajya Sabha seat by AIADMK.
Amid earlier buzz that Amit Shah would showcase NDA allies in the public meeting, it turned into a BJP rally.

BJP opposed earlier caste census report citing data inconsistency, why is it opposing a re-survey now: K'taka Dy CM
New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday questioned the BJP's intention in questioning the state government's decision to re-conduct the caste census. 'The BJP was opposed to the earlier caste census, citing data sanctity issues. We have announced a redo of the census, but the BJP is still opposing this too,' he said, while speaking to reporters here. Asked about BJP criticising the decision to reconduct the caste census, he said, 'The BJP did not accept the earlier caste census report, why the opposition now when we are trying to address the concerns? We are not rejecting the earlier census, we are only trying to correct the shortcomings of the earlier survey in order to allay concerns of several communities.' Asked if the survey would be conducted in a scientific manner this time, he said, 'The modalities would be discussed in the Cabinet meeting. Several communities, including Lambanis, Jains, Bestha communities had met me and raised concerns on the earlier survey. The previous survey was also done scientifically through door-to-door visits, but some of the people were hesitant to share their caste details. Our national leaders have given us certain guidelines. The AICC President too has given us many suggestions. The CM will discuss this in the Cabinet meeting and make a decision.' To a question of whether the government gave in to the pressure from powerful communities, he said, 'We have yielded to the pressures from all communities. We have yielded to the pressure from the media too.' When pointed out that the Veerashaiva community has welcomed the government's decision to redo the caste census, he said, 'Seers from Veerashaiva and Vokkaliga communities called me up and welcomed the decision. I appeal to all the seers to nudge their community members to participate in the survey and provide correct details.' Asked if it was D K Shivakumar's victory in convincing the High Command for a resurvey, he said there was no winner or loser in this matter. When questioned if there was a need for the state to reconduct the caste census when the Centre has announced a caste census along with the general census, he said, 'This is our Party's agenda, the BJP has copied it. Rahul Gandhi has always been advocating proportionate representation for the backwards classes.' Replying to a question on ED raids on Congress MLAs and MPs in the alleged Valmiki Corporation corruption case, he said, 'There is no link between our MLAs and Valmiki Corporation scam. Our leaders have not used the money in any election. As much as 90% of the money misused by the officials has been recovered.' (ANI)

"Politically motivated": BRS slams PC Ghosh Commission for delaying submission of Kaleshwaram project report
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 12 (ANI) Amid chaos over former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's appearance at PC Ghosh Commission in connection with the alleged irregularities in Kaleshwaram project, Bharat Rashtra Samith (BRS) leader KP Vivekanand Goud labelled the Commission as being 'politically motivated' and expressed reservations over the delay in submission of the report on the project. He informed that the PC Ghosh Commission was expected to submit the report on the Kaleshwaram project within 100 days, but it has been extending the deadline. 'Today, in connection with the PC Ghosh Commission inquiry, our leader, KCR, was called. The PC Ghosh Commission was supposed to submit the report on the Kaleshwaram project within 100 days. But it has only been extending the deadline, which clearly shows that this is a politically motivated commission. Out of 239 pillars, only two pairs required repairs. Just to defame KCR, they are dragging out the Commission,' Goud told ANI here. This came as KCR appeared before PC Ghosh Commission in connection with alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project. Heavy police deployment was witnessed at Hyderabad's BRK Bhavan on Wednesday ahead of KCR's appearance. Previously, BRS MLA and former Irrigation minister Harish Rao and BJP MP Etela Rajender, who previously served as Finance Minister in the BRS government, appeared before the commission. Justice PC Ghose Commission on Tuesday issued summons to former Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former Minister Harish Rao, and BJP MP Etela Rajender, who also served as a minister during the BRS regime, in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). The Commission, which has been probing financial and procedural lapses in the multi-crore irrigation project, directed the three political leaders to appear for questioning in the first week of June. On June 8, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Konda Vishweshwar Reddy described the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project in Telangana as the 'world's biggest engineering blunder' and termed it a 'huge scam' that has severely impacted the state's economy. Speaking to ANI, Reddy said, 'Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project in Telangana is the world's biggest engineering blunder and it's a huge scam which ruined Telangana economically. It is one of the prime reasons that the richest state of Telangana is in such a horrible economic condition. We have a loan of Rs 8 lakh crore.' 'The present Congress government does not have money to pay salaries and run the government,' he added, blaming the ruling party for the deepening financial crisis. Telangana Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy also held that the previous BRS government was responsible for the project's failure, labelling it the 'biggest man-made disaster' since Independence and the 'most expensive engineering failure' caused by any state government in India. He said that Telangana is currently paying Rs 16,000 crore annually in interest and instalments on high-cost loans borrowed during the BRS regime for this 'faulty' project, thereby placing an enormous burden on the state's finances and its farmers. Enemies of Telangana: Revanth Reddy hits out at KCR family amid chaos over Kaleshwaram project
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 12 (ANI): Amid ruckus over the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched a scathing attack against the family of former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, accusing them of being the 'true enemies' of the state. The CM said that he would present detailed facts and documents related to the Kaleshwaram Project within two days. He also ruled out the possibility of anyone from the KCR family being inducted into the Congress. 'As long as I am in power, there will be no entry for KCR's family into Congress,' Reddy said. He further accused Union Minister G Kishan Reddy of obstructing Telangana's development, calling him 'the biggest hurdle to the state's progress.' 'Kishan Reddy is the biggest hurdle to Telangana's progress,' Reddy said. Speaking about BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha's letter to her father, KCR, the Telangana CM labelled it a 'film-style drama' for attention. Earlier, Kavitha took potshots at the leaders of her party. Without naming anyone, she said that when her father, KCR, received notices in relation to the Kaleshwaram probe, no plan of action was set up. 'When KCR is given notices, there is no action plan. Instead of teaching me, tell me what is your action plan. Twitter tweets are not enough. Shouldn't we be on the ground?' Kavitha said, adding, 'During the Delhi liquor policy, when I went to KCR and wanted to resign, he said that they can't face me, and that's why the case has been filed against you.' The BRS MLC further criticised people in her party, labelling them 'converts.' 'Is it okay to say there are converts? Coverts should be controlled, and KCR should be protected,' Kavitha said, adding, 'If BRS is weak, BJP and Congress will become strong.' Meanwhile, KCR on Wednesday appeared before the PC Ghosh Commission in connection with alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project. Heavy police deployment was witnessed at Hyderabad's BRK Bhavan ahead of his appearance.
