I went to the little-known roadside diner that feels like being in Stranger Things – the food takes you back in time
It really did feel like entering the set of Netflix's hit TV show Stranger Things - yet I was actually in a roadside cafe in the UK.

Brightside in Exeter, Devon, feels like a retro Little Chef, an iconic motorway cafe chain that sadly stopped trading by the end of 2018.
Even the toilets at Brightside felt like a fun throwback with avocado-coloured sinks set against a mustard yellow tile backdrop.
I often skip past roadside cafes and restaurants for fear that the food will be poor and the prices will be high.
But Brightside wasn't like this.
The menu features an extensive range of options through morning, noon and night.
I opted for the 'Hot Honey Fried Chicken Burger' (£14.95) and my parents opted for the 'Chicken Caesar' pizza (£13.95) and the 'Dirty Brisket Burger' (£16.45).
Whilst we may not have had Eggo waffles (made popular by Stranger Things' Eleven), the dishes we did order hit the spot.
My chicken burger with honey offered a great twist on normal flavours.
And for the brisket burger it was even a winner with my dad who is quite picky when it comes to burgers.
The pizza was a good size as well, and really felt value for money.

Along with our food we tried out two of the diner's mocktails - 'Strawberry Smash' and 'Pop Goes Summer'.
Both mocktails cost £6 and were made with Ceder's non-alcoholic spirit.
Pop Goes Summer had an extra layer of fun, with popping candy around the rim of the glass.
As for Strawberry Smash, it was a great mix of strawberry, pineapple and lime.
Moving onto dessert, we shared the 'Berry Ice Cream Sandwich' (£6.95) and a 'Banoffee Sundae' (£5.95).
The berry ice cream sandwich was essentially a giant profiterole with soft serve ice cream, berries and meringue.

Both desserts felt like the ultimate childhood throwbacks.
It might be just me, but I don't see banoffee desserts around much anymore, so this treat really did transport you back in time.
When the bill came I was pleasantly surprised, as all of that came to around £68.
The price was less than I had expected thanks to their Thursday offer that lets you buy a dessert for £1 alongside any adult main meal.

This wasn't the only great offer the diner had - on Tuesdays, you can buy one pizza get one free after 3pm.
And on Wednesdays, kids eat free after 3pm, making it an affordable option for families needing to take a break on the motorway.
Outside the diner there is also a brightly coloured seating area, with large parasols so you can get some fresh air too.
Dogs are welcome too, and there is plenty to keep the kids entertained with Brightside branded merch to peruse and a number of books available to borrow whilst you sit and eat.
Whilst the diner isn't your typical American-style joint, Brightside definitely mixes the best of British 70s/80s culture with retro American diners.
I personally think Eleven would love it... as well as everyone else in Hawkins.
There are three Brightside diners located across Devon and Cornwall, and a fourth location can be found in Rutland, just under an hour from Leicester.
The diner in Exeter was the first location to open, opposite from Exeter Racecourse, back in 2023.
There is also a 'Karen attraction' in the UK that Brits can't get enough of.

The Hunting Wives fans think they've spotted a glaring error in the Netflix series
Fans of the hit Netflix series The Hunting Wives think they caught a mistake in the premiere episode. One TikTok user highlighted a scene in which actress Brittany Snow 's character, Sophie O'Neil, opens her kitchen freezer, revealing a Kraft Mac & Cheese product inside. 'Of all the things that shocked me about The Hunting Wives, this is the part that really had me shook,' the viewer wrote across the snippet. She added in the caption, 'Why do I always notice weird things in shows?' The clip zoomed in on the inside of the freezer, confusing fans who are primarily familiar with the food brand's pasta offerings. 'I've been WAITING FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO BRING THIS UP,' one person wrote in the comments section of Shandy's post. Someone else quipped about Evan Jonigkeit's character: 'It was definitely Graham, add that to the list of reasons we don't like him.' Another fan came to the conclusion, 'There is not reasonable explanation which makes this hilarious.' But a more knowledgable consumer shared an explanation for the puzzling display. 'Those are mac n cheese frozen meals, friend,' they shared. And a different social media user said knowingly, 'Any time a brand or logo is shown in a movie, it is a product placement. So many people are talking about this so they did their job.' The Hunting Wives is adapted from a bestselling book, and the sex-fueled show has struck a chord with audiences since its July 21 premiere. The eight-part series is based on author May Cobb's erotic thriller of the same name and adapted by Rebecca Cutler, who said she was in 'awe of its flagrant horniness.' It doesn't shy away from full-frontal nudity, no-holds-barred sex, and steamy make-out sessions that have earned it comparisons to Big Little Lies and Desperate Housewives. Viewers are introduced to its protagonist Sophie as she relocates to deep-red Texas from Boston with her husband Graham. She finds herself embroiled in the lives of a mysterious and exclusive group of gun-toting MAGA women dubbed The Hunting Wives. Among them is Margo (Malin Åckerman), who lures Sophie into their world of sex, scandal, and salacious gossip. Margo and her husband, Texas governor hopeful Jed (Dermot Mulroney), have an open relationship that gives the high-flying socialite freedom to have flings with younger men, such as the barely-legal Brad (George Ferrier) and also women like her friend Callie (Jaime Ray Newman).

When is Wednesday season 2 released on Netflix?
Wednesday season two will be released in two parts on Netflix The countdown is nearly at an end for the much-anticipated second season of Wednesday on Netflix. The series is set to grace screens across the globe imminently, promising fans another dose of its delightfully dark storytelling, reports the Mirror US. Jenna Ortega is back as Wednesday Addams, navigating the eerie corridors of Nevermore Academy with a fresh mystery to unravel in season two. Not only will viewers get more of the stoic and sharp-witted teenager and her pals, but they'll also see more of her eccentric family this time around, along with an A-list cast. Wednesday made its debut in 2022, offering a fresh take on the classic Addams Family saga. The first season was an instant hit, quickly becoming Netflix's second most-watched English-language series within just three weeks of release. The show garnered two Golden Globe Award nods and scooped up four Primetime Emmy Awards. Following its success, Wednesday was renewed for a second season in 2023, and more recently, in July 2025, Netflix confirmed a third season of Wednesday before the second had even aired. Reflecting on the show's impact, leading lady Ortega remarked: "It's still quite difficult to comprehend. I see the effects and changes that it's had on my life and my castmates' lives, but it's something that you're very detached from." She added: "If you see a number, it looks kind of crazy, but it's not like I've seen it in a room or anything like that." Ortega also shared her personal measure of success, saying: "I just try not to pay too much attention to that stuff because success for me is more about feeling accomplished and being able to put something out into the world and feel proud. "It's wonderful that it's been received so well, because there's a lot of pressure." She added: "When we started the show, I was 18 and had never worked with a director as big as Tim. I had led a show before, but not with a character that was so well known and loved prior to me joining. "It's a relief, but I would be lying if I didn't say that I still don't feel super anxious or feel like I have something I need to live up to every day on set. Maybe that's a good thing, but it hasn't gotten easier." Here's what you need to know about the release schedule for the show on Netflix. What time does Wednesday season 2 come out on Netflix UK?
