
10K kitchen gardens to be set up in next 6 months: Collector
As part of Swarnandhra - Swachh Andhra, the Collector along with Nellore municipal commissioner YO Nandan has conducted 'Beat the Heat' programme at Water Tank Park in the city on Saturday.
The Collector said that they planned to conduct awareness camps to women headed by MEPMS in every village to grow kitchen gardens in their house premises. He said that already 200 women from MEPMA have established kitchen gardens at their houses and he hopes it will be increased to 10,000 in coming six months.
MEPMA PD Radhamma, Nellore TDP Rural in-charge Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy and others were also present.

Three devotees rescued from Penna river after being trapped in Kadapa
Three devotees, Govardhan Reddy, Ramalakshmamma, and Obulamma, were rescued by emergency services after becoming trapped in the Penna River in Prodduturu, YSR Kadapa District. The trio, who reside in Rajarajeshwari Apartment, had been participating in Kanyatheertham festivities during Purnima and were en route back home via Sunnapurallapalle in the early hours when disaster struck. Following heavy rainfall, water was released from the Mylavaram reservoir, causing the river's flow to increase significantly. As a result, a stretch of road between Danavulapadu and Sunnapurallapalle in Jammalamadugu Mandal was washed away, leaving the three individuals stranded in their vehicle amidst the rising waters. Bhupesh Reddy, TDP in-charge for Jammalamadugu, was alerted to the situation and promptly contacted the fire brigade. Emergency personnel swiftly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued the stranded devotees, ensuring their safe return.

Minister inaugurates National Handloom Day
Dharmavaram: Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, along with district Collector TS Chetan, inaugurated 11th National Handloom Day celebrations near Netanna statue at Kadiri Gate in Dharmavaram on Thursday. The dignitaries paid floral tributes to the weaver's statue and congrat-ulated district handloom designer J Nagaraju for receiving the nation-al award in the field of Handloom Designing. Several dignitaries participated in the celebrations, including Addi-tional Director of Handlooms & Textiles Murali Krishna, Joint Director Kanna Babu, RDO Mahesh, and Municipal Commissioner Pramod Ku-mar, TDP Dharmavaram in-charge Paritala Sriram, Jana Sena State general secretary Chilakam Madhu Sudhan Reddy and others.

Make Sathya Sai district plastic-free
Dharmavaram (Sri Sathya Sai dist): District Collector T S Chetan urged citizens to transform Sri Sathya Sai district into a plastic-free region. Speaking at the 'Swarnandhra-Swachh Andhra' rally on 'Cleanliness and Plastic Eradication' held in Dharmavaram, the Collector emphasised the importance of eliminating plastic, especially single-use plastics, for the survival of humanity. He encouraged people to replace plastic bags with jute or cloth alternatives while shopping. Vendors, supermarkets and street sellers should provide eco-friendly bags instead of plastic. Teachers and students were urged to raise awareness about using jute bags and steel water bottles as sustainable alternatives. Collector Chetan stressed the importance of community participation for the campaign's success and directed officials and volunteers to spread awareness on plastic alternatives. As part of the same initiative, the Collector felicitated sanitation workers Pullanna and Katamayya for their dedicated service to cleanliness in the district. Later, the Collector visited Gandhi Nagar and Railway Station Road municipal parks, including the Butterfly Park in Dharmavaram. He issued instructions to enhance park amenities, including improved lighting and creating a pleasant environment for the public. The event saw participation from Dharmavaram RDO Mahesh, Municipal Commissioner Pramod Kumar, students and the general public.
