Telangana HC hears Vacate Petitions filed by senior IAS and IPS officers on land at Nagaram

The Hindu3 days ago
The High Court of Telangana on Monday heard the Vacate Petitions filed by senior IAS and IPS officers and questioned the writ petitioner Birla Mallesh about his locus standi to file the writ petition concerned with Survey No. 194 of Nagaram village.
Senior counsels appearing for the officers, have pointed out that Birla Jangamma, mother of the writ petitioner, had already filed a writ petition in the year 2024 and it was disposed. The writ petitioner with a malafide intention to tarnish the image of IAS and IPS officers has not disclosed the WP filed by his mother and disposed of in 2024 to the High Court, they argued.
Senior counsels P. Raghuram and Chandrasen Reddy have further argued that the petitioner, after obtaining interim orders stating Survey No. 194 of Nagaram village as Bhoodan land, has changed his stand that the land is not Bhoodan land but government land. The petitioner also suppressed various material facts misrepresenting that Survey No. 194 of Nagaram village is a Bhoodan land. The counsel for petitioner sought two weeks of time from the Court, but the Court declined the request and posted the matter to tomorrow (July 29) for hearing.

Bengaluru police open fire on suspects linked to kidnap-murder of 13-year-old boy, detain them: Report

In a significant development in Bengaluru, police shot two men early Friday morning near the Bannerghatta area after they allegedly kidnapped and murdered a 13-year-old school boy for ransom. Bengaluru police reportedly shot the suspects in self-defence after they resisted arrest and attempted to attack the officers with a dagger.(Pexel) The suspects have been identified as Gurumurthy — a part-time driver previously employed at the boy's house — and his accomplice, Gopikrishna (also known as Gopala Krishna), who are accused of abducting the deceased, Nischith A, a Class 8 student from Christ School who lived in Arekere's Vysya Bank Colony, The Times of India reported. Nischith was reportedly taken on Wednesday evening while returning home from tuition. When he failed to arrive home, his father, Achutha JC, filed a kidnapping complaint at around 10:30 pm at the Hulimavu police station. His bicycle was later found abandoned near a park. Based on a local tip-off, officers tracked the suspected killers to the Kaggalipura Road area. READ | Bengaluru Stampede: IPS officer Vikash reinstated, ex-Commissioner Dayananda now ADGP Prisons A police team led by Inspector Kumaraswamy BG and Sub-Inspector Aravind Kumar attempted to arrest the men around 1 am Friday. However, the suspects allegedly resisted aggressively, attacking officers with a dagger, the report said. In response, police fired warning shots, but when the duo tried to escape, officers opened fire in self-defence, it stated. Gurumurthy was shot in both legs, and Gopikrishna was hit in the right leg. Both men were immediately taken to a hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment, it added. Investigators believe that Nischith was murdered the same night he was taken, possibly out of fear that authorities would link the crime to Gurumurthy due to his past employment with the victim's family. A formal case has been lodged under multiple charges, including murder, abduction, and assault on police officers, at the Bannerghatta police station.

Who is D. Roopa Moudgil? Meet IPS officer, cracked UPSC with AIR 43, arrested former CM, got transferred 40 times in 20 years, is now posted at..

In a country characterized by such vastness and diversity as India, taking a stand for truth and justice is a defining act of bravery. Over the years, India has produced several officers who are honest, fearless, and committed to the law. This makes them unique. D Roopa is one of them. With her bold actions and her uncompromising stand against corruption, D Roopa has won admiration and public attention for asserting the truth against power. Her most shocking moment as a police officer — the one that brought her national fame — was when D Roopa arrested a sitting Chief Minister. This first-ever act sent waves of shock and anxiety through the political and administrative system that day, and showed her unbridled commitment to justice. Many would let system, status, or authority override justice. D Roopa showed everyone that no one is above the law, not even a Chief Minister. Hailing from Karnataka, Roopa Diwakar Moudgil finished her studies and higher studies in Karnataka. According to the media reports, Roopa graduated from Kuvempu University, where she excelled academically. If media reports are to be believed, she was awarded a gold medal for her exceptional performance. She pursued a Master of Arts in Psychology from Bangalore University. Shortly after finishing her studies in college, D Roopa sat for the Civil Services Examination. She succeeded in the UPSC exam in 2000 when she received an All India Rank(AIR) of 43. Following her selection, she opted for the Indian Police Service (IPS) and underwent rigorous police training. It is reported that she secured the fifth rank during training. When D Roopa began her IPS career, she had the opportunity to serve in many parts of the country, which provided her with diverse experiences in law enforcement and administration. Throughout D Roopa's career, she always showed strong leadership qualities, integrity, and fearlessness, which would serve her well throughout her career as an administrator. A closer look at IPS D Roopa's career reveals many highs and lows. She has worked in multiple states, including Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh, and during her 20-year career she has been transferred reportedly almost 40 times. This indicates that she has consistently worked with integrity and fearless honesty. IPS officer D Roopa came to public attention when she arrested a Chief Minister — an act which certainly brought her under the national spotlight. In 2007, she arrested the then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Uma Bharti, as ordered by the court. Arresting a sitting Chief Minister is not an easy task, but D Roopa did her job and demonstrated her courage in the line of duty and upheld the rule of law. D Roopa is also considered quite active on social media where she shares her experiences and pictures and some of her thoughts with her followers. A year later, she arrested former minister Yavagal and initiated disciplinary action against Deputy Superintendent Masooti for unauthorized contact with him.
