Telangana HC hears Vacate Petitions filed by senior IAS and IPS officers on land at Nagaram
Senior counsels appearing for the officers, have pointed out that Birla Jangamma, mother of the writ petitioner, had already filed a writ petition in the year 2024 and it was disposed. The writ petitioner with a malafide intention to tarnish the image of IAS and IPS officers has not disclosed the WP filed by his mother and disposed of in 2024 to the High Court, they argued.
Senior counsels P. Raghuram and Chandrasen Reddy have further argued that the petitioner, after obtaining interim orders stating Survey No. 194 of Nagaram village as Bhoodan land, has changed his stand that the land is not Bhoodan land but government land. The petitioner also suppressed various material facts misrepresenting that Survey No. 194 of Nagaram village is a Bhoodan land. The counsel for petitioner sought two weeks of time from the Court, but the Court declined the request and posted the matter to tomorrow (July 29) for hearing.

Bengaluru: The Lokayukta officials on Friday raided the residence of a former clerk at the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) and found unaccounted assets worth over Rs 30 crore. The officials found out that Kalakappa Nidagundi, who worked in Koppal and had a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, owned twenty-four houses, four plots, and 40 acres of farmland. Four vehicles, 350 grams of gold, and 1.5 kg of silver were also recovered during the raids. The properties were in his name, his wife's, and her brother's. Nidagundi and an ex-KRIDL engineer, ZM Chincholkar, allegedly siphoned off over Rs 72 crore by faking documents for 96 incomplete projects. Lokayukta Raids The Lokayukta sleuths have been raiding government officials accused of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income. On Tuesday, they conducted searches at places linked to five government officials in Hassan, Chikkabalapura, Chitradurga and Bengaluru. The officers who came under Lokayukta's radar were Jayanna R, Executive Engineer, NHAI Division, Hassan; Anjaneya Murthy M Junior Englneer, Rural Drinking Water and Sanitisation Department Chikkabalapura; Dr Venkatesh, Taluk Health officer, Hiriyur, Chitradurga; N Venkatesh, Revenue Officer, BBMP Dasarahalli sub-division, Shettihalli in Bengaluru; and K Om Prakash Senior, Assistant Horticultue Director, BDA Head Office in Bengaluru. On July 23, they carried out searches in premises linked to eight officials, including an IAS officer, in a disproportionate assets case and recovered wealth worth Rs 37.42 crore. The raids were conducted at 41 locations linked to the officers posted in Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kalaburagi, Koppal and Kodagu districts. Among those raided was IAS officer Vasanthi Amar B V, who serves as Special Deputy Commissioner at the Railway Infrastructure Development Company, Karnataka (K-RIDE). She was also responsible for the land acquisition for the Bengaluru Sub-urban Railway Project (BSRP). During searches at five places linked to Vasanthi, officials recovered assets worth Rs 9.03 crore, including three sites, four houses, three acres of agricultural land to the tune of Rs 7.4 crore, ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh, and vehicles worth Rs 90 lakh.

Bengaluru police open fire on suspects linked to kidnap-murder of 13-year-old boy, detain them: Report
In a significant development in Bengaluru, police shot two men early Friday morning near the Bannerghatta area after they allegedly kidnapped and murdered a 13-year-old school boy for ransom. Bengaluru police reportedly shot the suspects in self-defence after they resisted arrest and attempted to attack the officers with a dagger.(Pexel) The suspects have been identified as Gurumurthy — a part-time driver previously employed at the boy's house — and his accomplice, Gopikrishna (also known as Gopala Krishna), who are accused of abducting the deceased, Nischith A, a Class 8 student from Christ School who lived in Arekere's Vysya Bank Colony, The Times of India reported. Nischith was reportedly taken on Wednesday evening while returning home from tuition. When he failed to arrive home, his father, Achutha JC, filed a kidnapping complaint at around 10:30 pm at the Hulimavu police station. His bicycle was later found abandoned near a park. In response, police fired warning shots, but when the duo tried to escape, officers opened fire in self-defence, it stated. Gurumurthy was shot in both legs, and Gopikrishna was hit in the right leg. Both men were immediately taken to a hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment, it added. Investigators believe that Nischith was murdered the same night he was taken, possibly out of fear that authorities would link the crime to Gurumurthy due to his past employment with the victim's family. A formal case has been lodged under multiple charges, including murder, abduction, and assault on police officers, at the Bannerghatta police station.
