Phil Collins poses with footballer son in rare photo and makes sweet gesture

Phil Collins travelled to Austria to watch his son Matthew's play-off match but it wasn't to be for the 20-year-old after Hartberg shattered his promotion dreams
Music legend Phil Collins was there to support son Matthew in his big game this weekend as they posed for a rare photo together in the stands.
The musician, whose hits include 80s anthem In The Air Tonight, has two children, Nicholas and Matthew who he shares with Orianne Cevey, as well as daughters Joely and Lily, and son Simon, 48.

Phil and Orianne met in the 90s when she was working as his translator in Switzerland, and they eventually tied the knot in 1999, but divorced nine years later in 2008.

Matthew plays for Austrian football club WSG Tirol, and Phil travelled over to see him in action. They may have lost their play-off match to Hartberg 3-2 on Saturday, but the family stuck around to show their support after the match.
Coach Manuel Ludwiger said he had no idea his player was related to Phil when they signed him. '"We Google the players we take on trial to find out about their past careers, it was only then that we found out Matthew is Phil Collins' son. We haven't signed him as a publicity stunt. It is purely down to his footballing ability."
Phil spoke about son's passion for football and knew he had a shot at turning pro from an early age. "Matt loves music, but loves his football even more," he said. "He is certain he'll turn professional. 'The other day he said, "Another five years and I'll be gone".
Genesis star Phil earlier this year opened up about being so ill that he's completely lost interest in making music. The 74-year-old drummer, singer, and songwriter - who retired in 2022 after he experienced worsening physical limitations as a result of a 2007 spinal injury - made the admission as he gave a poignant update on his health battles, after also being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2017.

He told Mojo magazine: 'I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I'm not hungry for it anymore.' Grammy winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Phil added: 'The thing is, I've been sick, I mean very sick.'
The musician first opened up about about his spinal problems in 2009, saying: 'My vertebrae have been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in. It comes from years of playing.' Phil added: 'I can't even hold the sticks properly without it being painful. I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through. Don't worry, I can still sing.'
Phil looked back at his life and music in his documentary, Phil Collins: Drummer First, which came out late last year after two years of filming. In the moving film, the star focused on his drumming career rather than his vocal fame. Some emotional scenes also show the multi-talented musician coming to terms with the fact that drumming was a skill lost to him, and that he'd never perform live again.
"It's still kind of sinking in a little bit. You know, I'm 71. I've spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock," Phil said as he sat at his drum kit and held his sticks. He also shared: "If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I will have a crack at it. I just feel like I've used up my air miles," and admitted: "To be suddenly not be able to do that is a shock. If I can't do what I did as well as I did it, I'd rather relax and not do anything."
Explaining just how mentally debilitating his physical deterioration was to him, he also added: "I'm not a singer who plays the drums. I'm more of a drummer who sings a bit."

Harry Styles catches everyone's eyes as he strolls around London in tiny shorts

Harry Styles has sent fans into a frenzy with his latest look – not that it takes much, of course. The One Direction heartthrob was snapped on a stroll around London, displaying his gym-honed physique in a pair of teeny tiny shorts. Harry, 31, is famous for his bold fashion choices, whether it be covering Vogue in a lace dress or performing in stadiums wearing sparkly jumpsuits. But in his daily life away from the glitz and glam of showbiz, he's clearly a bigger fan of casual attire. Seen in the capital on Sunday, the As It Was hitmaker ran errands in the sporty bottoms and a comfy black sweater. The shorts showcased his very muscular legs as well as the array of tattoos Harry has on his thighs, from a tiger to French and Spanish writing. Adding to his vibrant yet chilled ensemble, he threw on a purple baseball cap and yellow tote bag, completing the look with some eye-catching footwear. Teasing what could be a huge trend for summer – let's be honest, if Harry Styles is wearing it, we're all wearing it – he strolled leisurely in a pair of Prada suede sneakers, which set him back £720. Well, we say 'set him back,' but Harry recently celebrated making it to The Times 40 Under 40 Richest UK celebrities list, with his net worth estimated at a staggering £225million. But, in true Harry style, his generosity was also noted, as he was named too on the paper's Giving List, recognising his charitable donations. The latest photos of the Grammy-winning star show him in his own world, wearing shades in an attempt to go somewhat incognito and with AirPods in his ears. However, when the pics started doing the rounds on social media, people were anything but calm. 'how am i supposed to focus on anything rn when he looks this beautiful', declared X user @flowerrysue. 'If I had those legs I would also walk around in shorts every day', wrote @ugo___________. 'i'm serious when i say men should start apologizing for not being harry styles', said @axlsugar. Fans are also anticipating the pop star releasing new music at any moment, with his last release being the mega-successful Harry's House album in May 2022. Following his multi-million-pound-grossing Love On Tour shows, Harry retreated from the spotlight for a while, specifically when his former bandmate Liam Payne died unexpectedly last October. In recent months, though, the Watermelon Sugar singer has been a busy bee, spotted here, there, and everywhere, leaving fans unable to keep up with his whereabouts. Early last month, people got quite a shock when Harry appeared in the crowd in Rome to witness the announcement of the new Pope. Having made his love for Italy known, the 1D alum blended into the spectators at Vatican City as a bell marked the election of Robert Francis Prevost, who will be known as Pope Leo XIV. Declaring his love for Italy when he took his tour there a few summers back, Harry even spoke Italian, revealing he was learning the language 'very slowly,' asking fans to 'please be patient' with him. 'Some of the happiest and most special moments of my life have been in Italy, and I'm very grateful for everything this country has given me,' he said sweetly. More Trending He continued: 'So, my love goes to every single one of you. Thank you for being here. Tonight, I want you to be free to be whoever you want to be.' Shortly before his recent roamings in Rome, he was seen in Berlin, and he even made a stop off in Tokyo to run a marathon… as you do. Regardless of his coordinates, fans are certain that a single announcement is imminent, what with Harry making quite the return to the public eye and with sources previously speculating that tunes could land this summer. Ross Kemp says he owes EastEnders ‘a great debt' and refuses to rule out return

The 60-year-old returned to EastEnders as Grant Mitchell after almost 10 years away during its 40th anniversary celebrations earlier this year, as his character returned to Albert Square to help his brother Phil with his mental health problems. Grant recently left Walford again for his home in Portugal. Asked on ITV's Loose Women whether he would return to the role again, Kemp said: 'You just don't know, do you? You don't know what's in the minds of the people who work on it. 'I've also (always) known that without it, I wouldn't have had the career that I've had, I've always owed it a great debt and it was very good to me, and hopefully I was good to it, and why not keep it that way? 'I've always believed that you should leave doors swinging rather than shut them.' Kemp, who went on to produce a number of documentaries since first leaving EastEnders in 1999 including Ross Kemp On Gangs, Ross Kemp In Afghanistan and Ross Kemp: Extreme World, said he enjoyed returning to the soap. He explained: 'It was so wonderful to jump into Grant's leather jacket again, which I can still get in. 'It's a family, it's an ongoing thing, and I'm talking about the past, and they're really busy doing their own thing, I just parachute in, and I exit generally by the tube station. 'But they've got to be welcoming, because it's like a high-speed train, you've got to jump on it at the right time or you miss it. 'So luckily, Steve McFadden (who plays Phil), and Paul Bradley (who plays Nigel Bates), and Letitia (Dean, who plays Sharon Watts) opened the door for me, and it was like going back home, and it was great.' Kemp began on the soap in 1990, and his previous appearance prior to his 2025 return, in 2016, marked his on-screen mother Dame Barbara Windsor's final episode as Peggy Mitchell. The actor currently hosts the BBC gameshow Bridge Of Lies, which challenges contestants to cross a digital bridge by choosing a true statement over a set of wrong ones.

BBC rejects claim Call the Midwife star was 'disrespected' before shock exit

The BBC has responded to Call the Midwife's Olly Rix's comments on his sudden departure from the role of Matthew Aylward after three years on the BBC One drama. Fans were left devastated last year when Matthew announced that he would be moving to New York to try and make his fortune after losing his inheritance. He gave Trixie (Helen George) a relationship ultimatum and as the season wrapped up, it was unclear whether Rix would stay or go, leaving many Call the Midwife viewers saying he 'deserved better'. Yet the 40-year-old was subsequently cast on Casualty, confirming he would not be returning to the East End set. There were reports at the time that the cast were 'stunned and upset' Rix's character Matthew had been written out. Rix has since spoken about how he felt he wasn't 'treated with much integrity or respect' at the end of his time on the show, telling Hello! he now struggles to talk about Call the Midwife. A Call the Midwife spokesperson told Metro: 'We don't accept this. Call the Midwife is a drama that prides itself on providing a supportive, inclusive and nurturing filming environment, and we are known for the family atmosphere on our set. 'Series 15 is currently filming and we look forward to sharing this exciting new series with our beloved audience.' Rix told Hello!: 'It's hard for me to talk about that show. I don't love talking about it. 'I'm very fortunate. Most jobs, I think of very fondly but you do, of course, leave them in the past and move on and develop new work. 'With that project in particular, I didn't like the way it ended and I didn't think they treated me with much integrity or respect, and I didn't like that. 'I think it's just best left in the past and not discussed much more.' RadioTimes at the time reported that Rix's departure didn't necessarily mean it was the end of the road for the character of Matthew. According to the publication, the door was being left open for him to come back at some point in the future – whether that remains the case is unclear. More Trending Rix has now traded in his 50s period costume for scrubs to play former Special Forces medic Flynn Byron on Casualty. Meanwhile, the BBC has announced plans to make a Call the Midwife film as well as a prequel TV series set during the Second World War. The show's 15th series will begin with a two-part Christmas special which will see the cast of characters journey to Hong Kong on a mercy mission. View More » Call the Midwife returns this Christmas.
