At least 12 die in Zimbabwe multi-vehicle collision

Harare, May 28 (UNI) At least 12 people were killed Tuesday morning after a fuel tanker hit a truck and a van on a highway near the city of Kwekwe, Zimbabwe's Midlands Province, local police confirmed.
Zimbabwean Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said in a statement that the petrol tanker, with two trailers, hit a 2-ton truck traveling in the opposite direction, and then had a head-on collision with a van carrying 12 occupants, also traveling in the opposite direction.
The tanker, which was traveling from Harare, dragged the van for several meters before it overturned and landed on top of the van, trapping the occupants inside, he said, without disclosing the identity of the deceased.
More details on the accident would be released in due course, he added.
Deadly road accidents are frequently reported in Zimbabwe. Police attribute some road accidents to reckless driving, including speeding and failure to observe traffic regulations, while some are caused by defective vehicles.

DEHRADUN: A woman posing as a High Court advocate in Uttarakhand has been arrested for allegedly trapping a man in a love scam, marrying him, and then demanding a hefty sum of Rs 30 lakh under threat of murder. Police registered an FIR based on the victim's complaint and arrested the accused, recovering Rs 50,000 in alleged blackmail money. Authorities revealed the woman reportedly has 18 previous First Information Reports (FIRs) against her in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for similar blackmail schemes. Deepak Kakkad, a resident of Vasundhara Bhoorarani Road, filed a detailed complaint with Senior Superintendent of Police Manikant Mishra on June 5. He stated that on May 2, he received a WhatsApp call from a woman identifying herself as "Ankita Sharma," an advocate at the Nainital High Court. She claimed it was an accidental call meant for a client. Kakkad revealed that Ankita then began engaging him in sweet talks via WhatsApp chats, gradually ensnaring him in a love trap. She also allegedly swindled Rs 5 lakh from him under the pretext of securing a steel grilling contract.

Pune, June 8 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Dev endra Fadnavison Sunday warned that if any evidence is found against inspector general of police, Prisons and Corrections Service, Jalindar Supekar, of his alleged involvement in helping the Hagavane family or corruption worth Rs 500 crore, then appropriate action will be taken. In a brief interaction with media here, he asserted that "We will not spare anyone, but it is not right to react to baseless allegations." While responding to allegations of diversion of the Social Department's funds, Fadnavis said that according to the state budget rules, the schemes for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes have to be put under the heads of that department, therefore, no money has been diverted from any other department, he clarified. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who also holds Finance portfolio, has allocated more funds to the Social Department this time in the state budget and this provision is more than before, he added.
