One dead, three injured after six-vehicle crash near Nixa

Yahoo09-05-2025
CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. — A crash between six different vehicles killed one person and seriously injured three others on U.S. 160 two miles south of Nixa Thursday night, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).
The MSHP crash report states that a 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was northbound on U.S. 160 at around 8:52 p.m. when it crossed into the opposite lane and struck a southbound 2000 Pontiac Firebird.
The collision caused another motorcycle to hit the rear of the Harley-Davidson and skid off the east side of the road, striking a northbound 2014 Toyota Rav-4.
The Pontiac skidded across the center of the highway and crashed head-on into a northbound 2019 GMC Sierra.

A sixth vehicle on southbound U.S. 160 — a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer — was also struck by debris from the crash.
MSHP says the driver of the Pontiac, a 47-year-old woman from Highlandville, was pronounced dead by the Christian County Sheriff's Office. The driver of the GMC Sierra and the two motorcyclists received serious injuries and were taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. No other injuries were reported.
This is the 35th fatality in MSHP Troop D in 2025.

Proposed Michigan bill targets school transfers after Pontiac abandonment case

The Michigan Senate introduced a bill aimed at better identifying students who are not attending school after three children were found abandoned in Pontiac earlier this year. Kelli Bryant is due back in court later this month after investigators say she allegedly abandoned her children between 2020 and 2021. The children were found in February 2025 after a landlord called authorities for unpaid rent. Bryant is charged with three counts of child abuse. She was also charged with welfare fraud related to getting money from the state as support payments, where she allegedly received roughly $30,000. Authorities say Bryant's children were enrolled in school, and then school officials were informed that they would be transferring. However, that did not happen. Under Senate Bill 492, schools where students are initially enrolled will be required to verify the transfer with the other school before releasing transcripts. "We don't want any other child to fall through this crack and be lost in the system," Michigan Sen. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) said, introducing the bill to the Senate Education Committee on Wednesday. "Under current law, it is possible, and it has happened, that a student could be disenrolled from a school before they have been enrolled in another school." Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald and Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard spoke in favor of SB 492. Bouchard recounts the deplorable conditions the three children were in when they were found. The sheriff's office says responding deputies found the home to be in vile shape, seeing mold, human waste and garbage. "This one rises to the top on so many levels. You have children basically abandoned for years in a situation that was untenable," Bouchard said. The bill will move to a vote in the Senate before it makes it to the House.

Bull theft was BS? Sheriff says Ram Trucks faked stolen bull stunt

Michael Bouchard, the Oakland County sheriff, is calling "BS" on Ram's claim that its mechanical bull thrill ride was stolen in Pontiac over the weekend. In a Tuesday, Aug. 12, news release from Ram, the company said the $34,000 covering for its "Bucking Hemi" thrill ride — a mechanical bull fashioned to look like a Ram HEMI engine — was stolen as they were breaking down the set of Roadkill Nights, an annual drag racing event held in downtown Pontiac, on Saturday, Aug. 9. The mechanical bull has been part of a Ram marketing campaign, as the brand touts a return to NASCAR and the return of the HEMI V8 engines to its vehicles. The Ram brand said it "is actively collaborating with authorities" and encouraged people to contact local law enforcement regarding the theft if they know anything. They even posted missing flyers on social media. Tim Kuniskis, the CEO of Ram, said in the news release, "This is bull----." "Well, it may indeed have been BS," wrote the Oakland County Sheriff's Office in response, late Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 13. Bouchard said his detectives have concluded the "theft never occurred," alleging that the mechanical bull cover was in Ram's possession the entire time. 'The company never actually lost the bull,' Bouchard said in a news release. 'I find this to be very frustrating and a tremendous waste of valuable investigative time." While the hunt for the stolen bull has concluded, the Sheriff's Office is now considering charges. "Now, we're pivoting to see if a crime was committed by the filing of a false police report,' Bouchard said. Stolen Missouri Corvette Recovered, But Investigation Raises New Questions

⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious A stolen 2018 Corvette Grand Sport was recovered in Missouri, but investigators say the case may be tied to drug trafficking. A 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport stolen from a Kansas City neighborhood has been recovered, though authorities say the case is far from closed. The Blade Silver sports car was located by the Missouri State Highway Patrol inside a garage at Precision Touch Auto Sales in Independence. Investigators say the recovery was made possible not through the factory OnStar system, but via an aftermarket tracking device that traced the Corvette's movements from the owner's home in the Waldo neighborhood to the business off Highway 40. 'Now that we've located this vehicle, we can kind of retrace the vehicle's steps,' said Cpl. Justin Ewing of the Highway Patrol. The theft was the second attempt on the car in as many weeks. In April, suspects were chased off by a neighbor during the first incident, but not before they fired several rounds into nearby homes and vehicles. No injuries were reported, but the gunfire left residents shaken. 'They came back to the exact same place,' said Marlene Standley, whose home was struck multiple times in the earlier shooting. The second attempt proved successful. Neighbor Megan Hogan, who called 911 during the theft, said the suspects pointed firearms at the Corvette owner's home after the car alarm went off, then sped away. She estimated it took 15 minutes for police to arrive. Authorities have not released details on how the vehicle ended up at the Independence business. The ongoing investigation has already resulted in a significant drug seizure, leading police to suspect a link to drug trafficking. 'It's our goal in public safety to make sure we protect lives and property,' Ewing said. The suspects remain at large as law enforcement continues to piece together the events leading to the Corvette's recovery.
