Nebraska football to sell alcohol at Memorial Stadium during Saturday's Big Red Preview

USA Today31-07-2025
The Nebraska football team is one step closer to the 2025 season with its annual Fan Day, followed by its Big Red Preview on Saturday. Nebraska athletics also announced that fans can purchase alcohol during the Big Red Preview.
This is the first time ever that alcohol is being sold at a Nebraska football event and just the third time ever at Memorial Stadium. A Garth Brooks concert and Volleyball Day in Nebraska sold alcohol at Memorial Stadium with approval from the school.
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved the sale of alcohol at Memorial Stadium and the Devaney Center this past October, expanding beyond Nebraska basketball, baseball, and softball.
The Big Red Preview is an open practice for the team, their sixth practice of the preseason camp. It is also the team's first practice in full pads, and fans will see the team in action on Memorial Stadium's brand-new playing surface.
Concessions and drinks, including beer, will be available on the main concourse of West Stadium and on field level in North Stadium during the Big Red Preview. The event is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Prior to the open practice, the team is holding its annual Fan Day in the afternoon, where fans can interact with the players in a free event and receive autographs.

Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: London Simmons

Despite a loaded defensive tackle position room, could freshman London Simmons make an impact for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2025? A member of Alabama's 2025 recruiting class, Simmons comes to Tuscaloosa from the state of Mississippi where he was a summer enrollee for the program. Simmons is also coming off a phenomenal senior season at the prep level, and joins a loaded Alabama defensive tackle room looking to carry over some of that same success to college, starting as a true freshman this fall. Here is a look at everything you need to know about Alabama's newest defensive lineman London Simmons ahead of the 2025 season. London Simmons player information London Simmons career stats Simmons will be entering his first season of college football this fall. The defensive lineman has yet to compile any collegiate stats. London Simmons 2024 stats New to college football this season, Simmons is coming off a strong 2024 campaign at the high school level as a senior where he played at Hartfield Academy in Mississippi. Across 14 games, Simmons posted a stat line of 67 tackles, 27 TFL, and 11.5 sacks. London Simmons recruiting ranking According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Simmons was considered as the nation's No. 514 overall prospect in the 2025 class, as well as the No. 59 defensive lineman nationally. A three-star prospect, Simmons was also the No. 14 player in the state of Mississippi where he attended Hartfield Academy, and committed to Alabama back in June 2024. London Simmons 2025 season outlook A talented interior defensive lineman, it's likely an unknown as to how much action Simmons' sees during the 2025 season. As to why, that is because Alabama has a pair of starters cemented at defensive tackle in Tim Keenan III and James Smith, meaning that Simmons will likely not start in 2025. In addition to that, Simmons also has some experienced options ahead of him on the depth chart as top backups, meaning that the former three-star recruit is likely not in the immediate group to start the season as Alabama's top rotation options. However, don't count out Simmons emerging later in the season either, as the true freshman could be a factor in potentially stopping the run at times. Spartans extend official offer to Pitt commit, 4-star RB prospect from Baltimore

Michigan State football has extended an official offer to a top 20 running back in the 2026 class. Damon Ferguson of Baltimore announced on Monday that he's received his official offer from the Spartans. Ferguson is verbally committed to Pitt, but was once strongly considering the Spartans before announcing his commitment to the Panthers in early June. August 1 was the first day for schools to extend official offers to prospects in the 2026 class. Ferguson is a four-star running back prospect, with a recruiting rating of 91.20 in 247Sports' composite system. He ranks as the No. 17 running back and No. 263 overall prospect in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class. Michigan State was previously prioritizing Ferguson but ultimately came up short in the recruiting battle with Pitt. This latest update of him receiving his official offer from the Spartans could suggest Michigan State is still pursuing him as a priority player, or it, of course, could simply be keeping the door open should he elect to reconsider his commitment to Pitt. Either way, this is a big-time player to keep an eye on as we lead up to signing day in December -- especially since Michigan State still has not landed a verbal commitment from a running back prospect in the 2026 class. Peyton Manning visits dugout at Savannah Bananas game

#BroncosCamp was a little bananas today! 🔥@BananaBall_ x @TheSavBananas The Savannah Bananas took their World Tour to Denver, Colorado, over the weekend as they entertained fans with two games at Coors Field. They play 'Banana Ball,' which MLB's website describes as a "fast-paced, action-packed style of baseball with rules that include a two-hour time limit, fans catching foul balls for outs and games that are won by points -- not runs." While in town, a few members of the Savannah Bananas and players from the Firefighters (one of Savannah's opponents in the Banana Ball league) stopped by Denver Broncos training camp on Tuesday. Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning and his son, Marshall, attended at least one of the games at Coors Field, and he got into the dugout: It's a good day for a good day when you turn around and see Peyton Manning in the dugout. Awesome weekend at Coors Field for the Firefighters vs. Bananas. Banana Ball's "Dancing Umpire" also got a picture with Manning: "From calling audibles to watching a banana's game," the umpire wrote on his Facebook page. "Had to get a pic with the legend himself Peyton Manning! 'Omaha Omaha' this was an audible I didn't have on my bingo card!" The Savannah Bananas have a sold-out schedule for the rest of their 2025 season. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Did you know: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.
