Alex Palou Climbs to Top of Charts on Another Damp Day at Indy
Maybe the only thing that can stop Alex Palou right now is rain.
NTT INDYCAR SERIES points leader Palou produced the fastest speed of a rain-interrupted second day of practice for the 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Wednesday, 227.546 mph in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. It was the fastest lap of two days of preparations this week for 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.'
SEE: Practice Results
Three-time series champion Palou, who has won the last two titles in a row, has opened the 2025 season with four victories in five races. About the only summit he has yet to reach in the series is winning an oval race, with the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 25 his next big target.
'We did a little bit of (running in) traffic,' Palou said. 'It's always tough when people are in different run plans. A couple of good traffic runs. The car is feeling good. You always want it to feel a little bit better, but so far, so good.
'This is the biggest race, and that's what we work so much toward. So, we're going to try and chase that win.'
Practice started 68 minutes late due to heavy rain this morning, with further delays of 54 minutes and 15 minutes this afternoon due to passing sprinkles over the 2.5-mile oval. That reduced the scheduled six-hour practice to three hours, 43 minutes as PPG Presents Armed Forces Qualifying this Saturday and Sunday draws closer and puts more pressure on teams to complete their preparation programs.
2018 '500' winner Will Power, fastest Tuesday at 227.026, continued a strong week in second today at 225.584 in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet. His teammate, two-time defending Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden, was third at 225.545 in the No. 2 Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Team Penske Chevrolet after ending up second Tuesday. Newgarden is trying to become the first driver to win 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing' three consecutive years.
2008 Indy 500 winner Scott Dixon was fourth for the second consecutive day in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, this time at 225.092. Conor Daly joined the Chip Ganassi Racing-Team Penske party in the top five, ending up fifth at 224.931 in the No. 76 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet.
All the fastest laps today came with the benefit of an aerodynamic 'tow' from leading cars, as teams continued to focus on finding stable setups in traffic for Race Day. But with PPG Presents Armed Forces Qualifying just three days away, it was noteworthy that Kyle Kirkwood was fastest while running alone for the second consecutive day, reaching 222.760 in a solo run in the No. 27 Siemens Honda fielded by Andretti Global.
All 34 drivers attempting to earn one of the 33 spots in the starting field turned a total of 2,555 laps (6,387.5 miles) in the shortened session today.
On-track activity will resume at 10 a.m. Thursday with a refresher test for 2013 '500' winner and Arrow McLaren Team Principal Tony Kanaan, who is readying to be a standby driver for Kyle Larson on Race Day. Larson is attempting the 'double' of racing in the Indy 500 and the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday, May 25. Kanaan will step in for Larson if weather delays the start in Indianapolis and Larson must leave for Charlotte for his full-time drive with Hendrick Motorsports.
The track will be open for practice for all cars from noon-6 p.m. (noon-4 p.m., FS2; 4-6 p.m., FS1; FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network).
The 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge is scheduled for Sunday, May 25 (10 a.m. ET, FOX, FOX Deportes, FOX Sports app, INDYCAR Radio Network).

Fox sets price for its Fox One direct-to-consumer streaming service
Fox Corporation's direct-to-consumer streaming service carrying the company's news, sports and entertainment programming will be available for $19.99 a month, the company announced Tuesday. Fox Corp. Executive Chairman Lachlan Murdoch told Wall Street analysts the offering, called Fox One, will launch Aug. 21 and target consumers who may want the company's content but no longer have pay TV subscriptions. Fox One will provide subscribers with their local Fox TV affiliate and the company's cable channels Fox News, Fox Business Network, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sporrts 2, Fox Weather, Fox Deportes and the Big 10 Network. There will be no original programming produced for the service. 'Our subscriber expectations and aspirations are modest,' Murdoch said. Murdoch stressed that the launch of the streaming service does not diminish the company's commitment to cable and satellite distribution which still brings in significant revenue despite the TV audience's move toward streaming. Even as the pay TV universe shrinks, Fox Corp. is still seeing increases in fees from pay TV companies carrying its broadcast and cable channels. In the fourth quarter earnings announced Tuesday, its broadcast stations saw 4% growth in subscription revenue while its cable channels were up 2%. Overall the company reported revenue of $3.29 billion in the quarter, up 6% over the prior year while net income more than doubled to $719 million. Murdoch said Fox Corp. is open to marketing Fox One in a bundle of other streaming services. Between the Fox broadcast network and Fox Sports, Fox One subscribers will have access to a wide range of live events including Major League Baseball's regular season games and the World Series, the NFL, college football and basketball, the Belmont Stakes, IndyCar racing and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Fox One is priced well under ESPN's new stand alonestreaming platform that will be available later this year at $29.99 a month. The Walt Disney Co. is making ESPN available to non-cable subscribers for the first time with its service. Fox's current streaming properties are the ad-supported service Tubi, which now accounts for 1% of all TV viewing according to Nielsen, and Fox Nation, a $7.99-per-month service operated by Fox News Media, which has about 2 million subscribers. Fox Nation is mostly entertainment and documentary shows with several Fox News programs offered a day after they air on cable. Users will be able to bundle Fox One and Fox Nation for $24.99 per month or the equivalent of $19.99 per month when purchasing the annual plan at launch.

Super Formula reveals 2026 season calendar with new opener
Super Formula's 2026 calendar has been revealed, featuring several changes owing to the impact of the date change for Formula 1's visit to Japan. With the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka moving forward to March 29, the famous figure-of-eight venue will no longer host the first round of the Super Formula schedule next year, as it has done both in 2024 and this year. That role has fallen to sister Honda-owned circuit Motegi, which will hold the opening round for the first time since the COVID-affected 2020 season on April 3-5. It marks a significantly later start to the year than the current season, which began at Suzuka in early March, but that slot is understood to no longer be feasible due to the long lead time required to prepare the circuit for F1's annual visit. Suzuka's first Super Formula date has now shifted back to May 22-24, with Autopolis moving to occupy the second round of the season on April 24-26. Read Also: Meet the Super Formula star aiming to echo Takuma Sato and chase Alex Palou's success The final four dates on the calendar mirror those of this year, with Fuji holding the fourth event in mid-July and the sixth round in October, Sugo maintaining its early August slot, and Suzuka acting as the venue for the season decider in November. While all seven rounds are listed as three-day events, it remains unclear whether there will be any more double-headers on next year's calendar compared to this year. This year's schedule is made up of 12 races, including five double-headers, with only Autopolis and Sugo being held as single-race weekends. The provisional calendar features no overseas races, which follows Super Formula adding a date to its 2025 schedule at Inje Speedium only to abort plans to visit the South Korean venue just two months later amid disagreements with the local promoter. Kamui Kobayashi, Toyota Gazoo Racing team principal Next year's calendar features no clashes with the World Endurance Championship, which will come as welcome news to Kamui Kobayashi. Toyota driver Kobayashi was forced to skip this year's Motegi round due to a conflict with the WEC's 6 Hours of Imola, being replaced at KCMG by Seita Nonaka for that weekend, but the reshuffle of dates has resolved that clash for next year.
