Porsche 911 GT3 RS and BMW M2 Collide in Fiery Nürburgring Crash
A spectacular crash at the Nürburgring Nordschleife over the weekend resulted in the destruction of a Porsche 911 GT3 RS and a BMW M2. The Internet is divided over who is at fault, but there's much less room for debate over how lucky the drivers were, as they reportedly escaped without serious injury.
A dramatic video posted on the r/BMW subreddit shows the crash, which reportedly took place during a Touristenfahrten session on Saturday, July 5, from multiple points of view. The video begins with footage from inside the Porsche; from this view, you can clearly see the GT3 RS going for a pass of the BMW when the M2 drifts back into the Porsche and sends both cars into the barriers.
A view from a track camera offers a different perspective of the crash. We see the cars approaching a turn when they make contact; the GT3 RS goes nose first into a barrier and the BMW strikes the Porsche in the rear. The result is a massive fireball, and the Porsche is thrown into the air.
The rest of the video shows the aftermath of the crash. Parts are strewn everywhere: a Porsche brake assembly is sitting on the opposite side of the track from where the car came to rest; the entire front of the car has been torn off, as well as the rear wing. The BMW didn't fare much better — the car, which came to rest on the shoulder, has been completely obliterated.
Another video posted on Tik Tok by @bajtekmedia shows more of what came after the crash. The metal barrier at the point of impact is ripped apart and still on fire, and the catastrophic damage to the Porsche and BMW evident. However, one thing that stands out: despite the damage to both cars, their passenger cells are largely intact.
The videos are making the rounds on social media, and users are divided over who is at fault for the crash. (As one member of the Road & Track team pointed out, the M2 is of British registry, suggesting the car may have been right-hand-drive and its driver potentially less familiar with the German track.) The blame game will likely continue, especially if insurance gets involved. On top of losing their cars, the track is also likely to send the drivers a bill for the damage caused by the crash. The financial pain is likely to be significant, but both drivers should still consider themselves extremely lucky.

2025 BMW M3 Challenges Mustang Shelby GT350R in Drag Race
⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious Amid growing concerns about the future of manual transmissions, an unlikely matchup between the new 2025 BMW M3 sedan and the venerable Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R coupe has sparked renewed excitement among automotive enthusiasts. In an era dominated by automatic transmissions and electric vehicles, three-pedal cars remain cherished by drivers seeking an engaging driving experience. The BMW M3 and Mustang Shelby GT350R both offer manual transmissions, representing two distinct yet beloved approaches to performance: refined German engineering versus raw American muscle. To celebrate this shared passion for manual gearboxes, automotive YouTuber Sam, known from the channel "Sam CarLegion," recently arranged a drag-and-roll race showdown between the two. On paper, the contest might seem uneven: BMW's M3 packs a twin-turbocharged inline-six rated at 473 horsepower, while Ford's Shelby GT350R brings a naturally aspirated V8 boasting 526 horsepower. The races commenced with rolling starts. At 37 mph, the Shelby Mustang narrowly edged out the BMW M3, highlighting the close competition between the two vehicles. At 49 mph, however, the GT350R's higher horsepower and larger displacement secured a clearer victory, demonstrating the timeless adage: "There's no replacement for displacement." In the standing-start quarter-mile races, driver skill played a significant role. Despite the M3's advanced engineering and precise handling, the Mustang GT350R leveraged its power advantage and visceral performance to win decisively. The Mustang reached 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, compared to the M3's 4.3 seconds. It completed the quarter-mile in 12.2 seconds, while the M3 trailed at 12.7 seconds. This matchup underscores why manual transmissions continue to captivate driving enthusiasts, even as manufacturers shift towards automatic and electrified drivetrains. Both cars offered exhilarating experiences, proving that for passionate drivers, the allure of a stick shift remains as strong as ever.

Researchers explore next-gen twin batteries that could solve concerning problem with EVs: 'A promising approach'
Electric vehicles are transforming transportation for the better, but producing their batteries comes with high costs — a trade-off that researchers at engineering firm IAV may have found a solution for. IAV, a firm focused on the future of mobility, has developed a twin-battery design that pairs two different but complementary chemistries to reduce the cost and environmental impact of manufacturing EV batteries, reported. Instead of relying on lithium-ion cells, the design combines sodium-ion (SIB) and lithium iron phosphate solid-state (LFP-SSB) batteries. SIBs are low-cost and easier to recycle, while LFP-SSBs offer long cycle life and strong energy density. The system reuses waste heat from one battery to optimize the performance of the other. Combining the two types creates an energy-saving system that could boost range and efficiency without the high costs of cooling, heating, or mining for lithium-ion batteries, according to IAV also designed and developed the new battery with minimal waste. Using COMSOL Multiphysics, IAV engineers were able to tweak parameters and simulate the batteries' real-world thermal, chemical, and mechanical behavior. This validated the effectiveness and efficiency of the battery system without the need for multiple prototypes, per which sped up development while slashing costs and resource waste. Jakob Hilgert, a technical consultant at IAV, considers the use of diverse cell chemistries "a promising approach to respond to market fluctuations and at the same time minimize system costs," per IAV is also exploring other innovations, like the use of bipolar technology to maximize volume utilization of lithium-ion batteries. There are also other companies pursuing similar breakthroughs. For instance, Watt Electric Vehicle Company is developing a solar-powered closed-loop production system. Other automakers are also investing in research and development for better EV chargers and infrastructure. If you were going to purchase an EV, which of these factors would be most important to you? Cost Battery range Power and speed The way it looks Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Energy solutions like these can make EVs more affordable. They could help drive EV adoption, going far beyond the 17.3 million electric cars produced in 2024 alone. For drivers looking to save even more, pairing an EV with home solar can drastically reduce charging costs. Platforms like EnergySage make it easy to compare quotes from vetted vendors, and can help you save up to $10,000 while minimizing environmental impact. While there's no firm rollout date yet, IAV's approach could contribute to a smarter, cleaner, and more accessible EV future. 2026 Mercedes-Benz C-Class spy shots: This Thing Will Have You Seeing Stars
The latest car news, reviews, and features. An upcoming refresh for the small Mercedes-Benz sedan will be anything but understated if prototypes provide an accurate indication. Spied in prototype form featuring what appears to be production-intent lighting, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will feature lighted star elements in both the head and taillights. Those design bits seem cribbed right from the larger mid-size E-Class taillights and smaller CLA-Class. Stefan Baldauf / SB-Medien The light camouflage on the prototypes reveal the changes to the upcoming C-Class are mainly contained to revised front and rear fascias. But new side mirror caps with embedded cameras can be seen for the surround-view camera system. We'll have to wait to see what changes come inside the C-Class, but expect an upgraded infotainment system that falls inline with the rest of the current Mercedes lineup. Currently, today's C-Class comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 paired with a mild-hybrid system rated at 255 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive is standard while all-wheel drive is an option. It's unlikely the base powertrain changes format in a meaningful way. But AMG-badged variants will be bringing the V8 back after Mercedes realized it made a mistake with enthusiasts. The current AMG C63 has a turbo-4 hybrid powertrain that is a monster, but it sounds like an appliance without a soul. Speed and power without a soul stirs few emotions. The updated C-Class is expected to debut this year as a 2026 model shortly followed by the electric variant. While the debut likely isn't far away, you can check out these prototype photos by swiping or clicking through the full gallery below. Spot something weird in the wild? Let us know at tips@
