Heroic son retrains home invader after being stabbed
The attacker, armed with a knife, was brutally assaulting an 84-year-old Salvatore Andreula when his son, who lives next door, heard the commotion and did not think twice before rushing to his father's aid.
The suburban drama unfolded at Mr Andreula's home on Ridley St in Albion about 8.10pm on Sunday.
After hearing his father's dog barking, Giuseppe Andreula, 50, went to investigate, and when he arrived at his father's home, he was confronted by a man armed with a knife.
The attacker was shouting demands and wanting his father to hand over his car keys, and when he refused, the attacker punched him in the face.
Giuseppe confronted the offender and was stabbed multiple times as he wrestled with him.
The attacker, who is yet to be identified, is believed to be in his 40s.
After some struggle, Mr Andrelua's son was able to restrain the attacker and hold him done until the police arrived.
Giuseppe was taken to the hospital in a serious condition on Monday morning, and his father also remains in the hospital with minor physical injuries. Salvatore Andreula, 84, was punched in the face during the home invasion. Credit: Unknown / Supplied

'Stop it let him go,' an officer can be heard yelling out as she approaches the home.
'Let him go? He's a f...ing animal,' a voice can be heard.
Albion local Lee Ly called the police after hearing screaming and the words 'killing me' coming from inside his neighbour's home, the Herald Sun reported.
'I heard the words 'killing me' and just called triple-0 straight away,' Mr Ly said. Neighbours Elliott and Lila describe the home's residents as a loving elderly Italian couple whose son lives around the block.
'We heard (the attack), we could hear that someone called the police, it was quite violent,' Lila said.
Residents who know the family well praised the actions of the son, saying he is 'pretty brave'.
Other residents raised concerns over the government's approach to dealing with crime and the number of police personnel available to respond to attacks such as this one.
One resident speaking out and saying, 'The premier's got a lot to do with it.'
'There is not enough police.'
The resident lauded the efforts of Giuseppe, who rushed to his father's aid.
'Fantastic — he's that type of a guy but he wouldn't hurt a fly,' he said.
As the surge in violent home invasion continues to rise, Libertarian MP David Limbrick is pushing to review, and potentially overhaul, the state's self-defence laws.
Mr Limbrick is set to introduce a motion in Parliament this week, urging the Victorian Law Reform Commission to conduct a formal review of current self-defence laws.
Police have confirmed that investigations into the matter remain ongoing.

Pictured: Newcastle midwife-turned content creator charged over home birth death
A midwife-turned content creator — charged over the death of a home birth baby — had given birth to her own twins at home. Oyebola 'Bibi' Coxon, 35, was arrested on Thursday and charged with manslaughter and grievous bodily harm over the death of a baby in October last year. Police will allege she went to a home in Wallsend, in Newcastle's western suburbs, on October 2, 2024, to assist a woman with a home birth. However, over the next two days, Coxon allegedly did not act upon signs of complications and requests by the woman to attend hospital. The woman went to John Hunter Hospital on October 4, where the baby was delivered by emergency caesarian, with both allegedly suffering significant medical complications as a result of the incident. The boy died in hospital six days later. According to her LinkedIn, Coxon, originally from Italy, worked as a volunteer midwife for two years around Perth before studying midwifery through Southern Cross University in February 2015. She became a registered midwife later that year before picking up a position at a Sydney hospital. Coxon then worked for several years at hospitals around Queensland before picking up a position at Maitland Hospital in 2021. A Hunter New England Health District spokesperson told that Coxon has not been employed with their health district for several years. Coxon also embarked on a career as a digital creator, changing her job title on Facebook in April 2023 to 'social media coach'. She regularly shares videos about fitness, motherhood, cooking, and her daily life with her 7000 TikTok followers. In 2022, a post showing graphic images of the home birth of her twins went viral among midwifery social media pages. 'At 5:25 (am) with no push, I just bare down and twin 1 was out,' she said. 'I yelled at that point but mum and my hubby came and that baby was out.' Coxon said she gave the first twin to her husband and went to the shower. 'And then I got a cramp on my leg and bare down... and twin 2 just slipped out.' Coxon said she went to the hospital two to three hours afterwards out of concern she may have suffered injuries during the birth, and she was treated with stitches. 'It was the most amazing experience,' she continued. 'There was a lot of unwind I had to do in my life during this pregnancy being a midwife. 'But I trusted my babies and my body.' Coxon was granted bail after appearing in court on Thursday. Under her bail conditions, she must not act, practice or educate any person relating to any birth or pregnancy and must report to Nelson Bay Police Station daily. She was also required to surrender her Italian and Australian passports. She is next due in court in October.

Chilling footage appears to show Ross Judd carrying a stake outside a Bunnings hours before he allegedly killed pregnant woman and her partner in Melbourne
Footage appears to show an alleged double murderer carrying a sharp metal pole just hours before he allegedly killed a pregnant woman and her partner, before putting his decapitated head on a spike. Ross Judd, 34, was arrested after Athena Georgopoulos, 39, who was five months pregnant at the time of her death, and Andrew ''Morph'' Gunn, 50, were found dead inside their unit in Mount Waverley in Melbourne's south-east on Monday night. Judd, a homeless man, has been charged with counts of two counts of murder over what Victoria Police will allege was a targeted attack at the couple's home. Vision has since emerged that appears to show Judd walking outside a Bunnings Warehouse accompanied by two large dogs while carrying a spike and a jerry can about 8pm on Monday. The Bunnings, on Ferntree Gully Rd in Notting Hill, is just over a kilometre from where the bodies of Ms Georgopoulos and Mr Gunn were discovered on Adrienne Crescent in Mount Waverley around two hours later. The Herald Sun has reported that police are investigating the footage believed to be of the alleged killer. A Victoria Police spokesperson told on Friday that police will not be commenting on the footage as the matter is now before the court. The discovery of the dead couple of Monday shocked the Melbourne community where they lived, with neighbour Ben Scott Sandvik saying "no one should have to come across what I saw down there" after he found the pair. Locals reported Mr Gunn's German Shepherd was always by his side and "very protective" of him. Police are investigating whether the alleged murders were triggered by an argument between Mr Gunn and Judd over the sale of dogs. Judd was remanded in custody after facing court on Wednesday, with prosecutors requesting an additional 10 weeks to prepare a brief of evidence due to the ''complex'' nature of the case. Judd entered court with two guards by his side as he stumbled and muttered: 'I beg your pardon, yeah I'm all good'. Footage of Ms Georgopoulos and Mr Gunn's unit after there bodies were found showed the house graffitied with messages including, "U R Gay", "Enough is Enough", "Betrayal", and 'Karma is not a menu".

Fresh details emerge of possible dispute over dogs behind grisly Melbourne alleged double murder as accused killer seen dining at Maccas after killing
A dispute over dog ownership has emerged as a possible driver behind an accused killer allegedly murdering a pregnant woman and mounting her partner's decapitated head on a spike in a Melbourne unit. Athena Georgopoulos, 39, who was also five months pregnant at the time of her death, and Andrew ''Morph'' Gunn, 50, were found inside a unit on Adrienne Crescent in Mount Waverley on Monday night. Ross Judd, 34, a homeless man, was with two large dogs, when he was arrested at Westall train station just a few hours later in relation to the 'unimaginably horrific crime scene'. Victoria Police will allege Judd carried out a horrific "targeted" attack at the pair's home after being charged with counts of murder, and faced Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Locals have reported Mr Gunn was always accompanied by his german shepheard and the dog was ''very protective'' of him, but things took a sour turn when an argument developed between him and Judd over the ownership and sale of some dogs. Neighbour Elise Browne told the Herald Sun, 'Morph was always with his dog". 'That's what spun me out when I heard about (the deaths), because he and his dog went everywhere together and Dragon wouldn't let anyone near him," Ms Browne said. In a chilling turn of events, just an hour after the alleged murder took place, Judd was spotted in a bloody jacket at a a McDonald's about a 40-minute walk from the crime scene. There he was accompanied by his two pet german shepheards. At the Dandenong Rd, Clayton McDonalds, a witness told the Herald Sun, a man matching Judd's description, was barefoot and wearing a black cotton jacket that appeared to be covered in blood. He then reportedly proceeded to grab napkins from the counter to clean himself up. While cleaning up, Judd also grabbed a late-night bite, with a worker revealing he ordered two medium cheeseburgers with no pickles and a no-sugar Coke. He then left the restaurant about 11.25pm. A photo of two german shepherds wearing distinctive scarfs while waiting outside the McDonalds has also appeared on social media. Judd, who is known to camp under a bridge in Oakleigh, is known to Ms Georgopoulos and Mr Gunn and was reportedly spotted at the pair's unit in the past. Police reportedly discovered Mr Gunn's mutilated body next to the body of Ms Georgopoulos inside their small unit. Aerial footage of the couple's Melbourne home showed the outside of the property riddled with sinister graffiti messages including, "U R Gay", "Enough is Enough", "Betrayal", and 'Karma is not a menu". Investigators are currently examining whether the graffiti sprayed in luminous yellow-green and black paint on the home's fence and exterior walls is linked to the gruesome alleged murder. Speaking from the scene, Detective Inspector Dean Thomas declined to reveal how the couple were killed - although he said investigators did not think a gun had been used. Just hours before Ms Georgopoulos was killded, she had been on the phone to family and friends on Monday to reveal the gender of her baby. During the conversation, she told loved ones she was excited to be expecting a baby girl, the Herald Sun reported. Ms Georgopoulos's devastated mother who was seen screaming and crying as she ran through the crime scene, made a heartbreaking tribute to her daughter and future granddaughter, both of whom she lost. 'My dear, you left life so unfairly I can't yet believe that you were so happy on your last days,' she wrote in Greek on Facebook. 'We dreamt together about my grandchildren that would bring to your heart's desire and suddenly everything went out in one night, cutting the thread of your life and my grand daughter who would've been born in four months. 'Even if they separated us I will always love you forever, welcome my daughter to the life of the angels.' On Wednesday, Judd, wearing a dark coloured t-shirt, entered the court with two guards by his side as he stumbled and muttered: 'I beg your pardon, yeah I'm all good,' The Australian reported. During the court hearing, police requested an additional 10 weeks to prepare a brief of evidence in the case due to its ''complex'' nature. Magistrate Joanne Metcalf granted the request, with Mr Judd set to return to court next year. Judd's lawyer noted that it was his first time in custody and requested for him to be seen by a custody nurse for "mental health issues".
