Three Boston women's teams set for Hockey East semifinals, with defending champ UConn the lone outsider

Both semifinals begin at 6 p.m., with the winner's advancing to Saturday's championship game (noon), to be held at Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs.
It will be the first meeting of the Terriers and Eagles in the semifinals since 2019, when BC handed BU a 5-1 loss before losing the championship game to Northeastern. The Eagles (tied with UConn for 12th

That semifinal experience is showing in the grit of BC's sophomore class. Three of the team's top four scorers are sophomores, led by Tewksbury's Sammy Taber. Taber has 11 goals and 25 assists to follow up on her 31-point Rookie of the Year season in 2023-24, including a helper in the Eagles' 4-3 win over Maine in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Classmate Julia Pellerin has stood out as BC's top sniper. The Windham, N.H. native leads the Eagles in goals with 20 (which was the game-winner against Maine), and in shots with 172, 68 more than her next teammate. Another sophomore, defender Molly Jordan, has shown herself to be a top-notch two-way player, with 23 points on the season.
Besides the emergence of a strong sophomore class, the Eagles are surging as a more cohesive unit than their last two years.
'It's a pretty tight-knit group,' said coach Katie Crowley earlier in the season. 'I think what we found is they really play for each other and that's awesome to see. That helps in the closer games.'

Improved teamwork has also been a boost for the Terriers, who have been the surprise of Hockey East so far. Picked sixth in the coaches' preseason poll, BU went into the final weekend in the running for the regular-season title, before dropping a series to UConn. But second-year coach Tara Watchorn and her charges bounced right back by besting Vermont, 4-3 in overtime, in Saturday's quarterfinal.
'There was so much room for upgrades,' said Watchorn after the win. 'Our foundation was back and strong in a lot of ways and reinvigorated. We felt good coming out of last weekend, with a little bit more of a fire, which never hurts.'
Coach Tara Watchorn had the Terriers vying for the Hockey East regular season title right up to the final weekend. Now, BU is looking for Hockey East tournament glory.

Six Terriers have over 15 points this season, an improvement over the last few years when scoring was a struggle. Leading the way is junior Sydney Healey, who is having the best season of her career with 14 goals and 8 assists.
Regardless of position, BU's players aren't shying away from scoring opportunities. Hockey East Defender of the Year Tamara Giaquinto (8-9–17) has been playing much like her coach did during her own BU career, a physical presence on the blue line who doesn't fear getting in front of a shot.
The Terriers took the regular season series against the Eagles, 2-1, but Wednesday's semifinal is an even matchup. The early 2010s days of BC and BU vying for league titles and being a part of the national conversation have returned, and both teams welcome it.
'It just makes it more fun,' said Crowley.
It's deja vu for Northeastern (tied for 14th in PairWise), who has played UConn in the postseason five times in the last six seasons. The Huskies have been inconsistent, but still find a way to play up in important games, such as their

When Northeastern's forwards are on, like Andover's Lily Shannon (14-8–22) and Kingston's Skylar Irving (15-16–31), they are hard to stop. But UConn goalie Tia Chan is Hockey East's best, and fourth in the nation with a .944 save percentage. Chan was the reason

Sign Brandon Scherff? Make a trade? Here are Eagles' options to replace Landon Dickerson

Here's a quick look at who the Eagles could call on from their current roster, free agency and a potential robust trade market at offensive guard The Eagles could be without Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson for an extended period after he suffered a torn meniscus during the open stadium practice at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday evening. Dickerson had a Monday MRI that revealed an injury, but not its severity. A meniscus tear can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to heal, depending on the severity of the tear and the treatment approach. A minor tear, treated with rest and physical therapy, could heal in 4-8 weeks, costing Dickerson a few games and 3-6 months for complete recovery. A more severe tear for Dickerson could require surgery, and potentially up to 6-9 months for a full return to activities. With Eagles fans and media patiently waiting for a prognosis, we're looking at options currently on the roster, in free agency, and via a potential trade that could help absorb the loss of the perennial Pro Bowl offensive guard. On the Eagles' roster Brett Toth Toth was signed by the Eagles in 2019 after he was granted a military waiver from the Army. He was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals before rejoining Philadelphia and spending time on both the active roster and practice squad, appearing in 17 games total in 2020 and 2021. Toth played three games for the Panthers in 2023. He was released in December and signed to the Eagles' practice squad for the remainder of that season, and spent all of 2024 on the practice squad. Matt Pryor Pryor spent the 2024 season with the Chicago Bears after playing the 2023 season in San Francisco. The Eagles selected Pryor in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL draft out of TCU. Last season, Pryor saw action in all 17 games for Chicago, making 15 starts at offensive guard. Pryor was solid in 2024 and was the 21st highest graded offensive guard in 2024 according to PFF. Kenyon Green The Eagles acquired the former first-round pick in a trade with the Houston Texans this offseason. The 15th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M, Green (6-4, 325) has started 23 games in his career and will look to have a breakout season finally. Trevor Keegan A fifth-round pick in 2024, Keegan (6-5, 306 pounds) will look to take the next step and push for more playing time after spending all of his rookie season on the active roster. He took snaps at the center position during OTAs. Free Agent options Brandon Scherff, G Another potential addition for depth, the veteran offensive guard had a pass block win rate of 93.8% last year, which ranked 14th among guards, according to ESPN. Jedrick Wills Jr., OT Wills is sitting out the year, but could be in line for a position switch like Mekhi Becton, and he's still a solid pass blocker who has a career pass block win rate of 92.0%. Dalton Risner The 29-year-old Risner was a second-round pick of the Broncos in 2019 and played four years in Denver before signing with the Vikings in 2023. He has been a starter when healthy throughout his NFL career. Trade Candidates Liam Eichenberg-Miami Dolphins Eichenberg, 27, has played in 60 games and started 52 in his four seasons with the Dolphins. While he has consistently struggled throughout his career, the veteran lineman has made starts at all five positions, and coaches have valued his versatility. However, Eichenberg is currently on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Tytus Howard-Houston Texans Howard, who has been a key piece for Houston's offensive line, has been mentioned as a trade candidate. The 29-year-old is versatile, having played tackle and guard.

Who Replaces Landon Dickerson? Six Eagles Options Including Jason Kelce Comeback

The Philadelphia Eagles face a potential crisis if three-time Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson misses extended time after suffering a reported meniscus injury to his right knee Sunday night during the team's public practice at Lincoln Financial Field. Dickerson was helped off the field before being carted inside from the sideline. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Dickerson is exploring additional treatment options to determine what comes next and how much time he will be sidelined. If Dickerson is sidelined for a significant amount of time, the Birds will need someone to step up as part of one of the league's elite offensive lines. Here are six players who could potentially fill the void, including a returning Jason Kelce. RELATED: Matt Pryor Matt Pryor returned to Philadelphia after starting 15 games for the Chicago Bears last season. Pryor was rated the 31st best guard in the NFL by Pro Football Focus in 2024, including an impressive eighth in pass blocking, though he ranked 52nd in run blocking. The Eagles drafted Pryor in the sixth round of the 2018 draft. He has started 39 games across six seasons with four different teams. Brett Toth Brett Toth is officially listed as Dickerson's backup but lacks Pryor's experience. Toth made the Eagles' 2020 roster as an undrafted free agent, appearing in six games with one start. He made one additional start during his career with the Carolina Panthers in 2023 before returning to Philadelphia last year. Kenyon Green The Eagles acquired former first-round pick Kenyon Green from the Houston Texans as part of the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade. Green never lived up to his potential with Houston, missing all of 2023 with a shoulder injury. He was rated poorly by Pro Football Focus, ranking 132nd out of 136 guards in 2024. If anyone can resurrect his career, it's Philadelphia's offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. Trevor Keegan Another internal candidate is 24-year-old Trevor Keegan, a fifth-round pick out of Michigan in 2024. He appeared in one game last year — the season finale against the New York Giants. Keegan stands 6-foot-5 and 306 pounds. Cole Strange If the Eagles look outside the organization, New England Patriots offensive lineman Cole Strange could be a target. He appears on the roster bubble after being a first-round pick in 2022 under the Bill Belichick regime, and his time in New England may be ending. Strange suffered a torn patellar tendon in 2023 and played only three games last year after starting the season on the physically unable to perform list. He could be acquired for a Day 3 pick, and under Stoutland's guidance, there's a chance he could fulfill his first-round potential. Jason Kelce Imagine Jason Kelce unretiring because of Dickerson's injury, sliding back to center while Cam Jurgens moves to left guard, leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl repeat? It's wholly unlikely Kelce would return given his lucrative podcast and ESPN deals, but it's fun to consider. He has been helping offensive linemen at training camp, sharing his Hall of Fame knowledge. Could he suit up one last time? Stranger things have happened. Three-Time Pro Bowler Carted Off as Eagles' Super Bowl Repeat Hopes Take Potential Hit

Philadelphia Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson is believed to have suffered a meniscus injury to his right knee during Sunday's public practice at Lincoln Financial Field. The three-time Pro Bowler had to be carted off the field in front of 50,000 fans. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Dickerson is exploring additional treatment options to determine what comes next and how much time he will be sidelined. The injury occurred during a pass play where Jalen Hurts connected with Saquon Barkley in the flat on the opposite side of the field, according to ESPN's Tim McManus. Dickerson stayed down for several minutes before being helped off the field, unable to put weight on his right leg. Dickerson's injury history raises additional concerns. He tore both ACLs while at Florida State and Alabama and played through a left knee injury during Philadelphia's Super Bowl run earlier this year. Despite being limited in Saturday's practice with a knee issue, he was a full participant Sunday. The Eagles boast one of the NFL's elite offensive lines, making any extended absence by Dickerson a significant blow to their championship aspirations. The 26-year-old Dickerson signed a four-year, $84 million extension in March 2024.
