Sabah among top five states in projects and programmes completion
KOTA KINABALU (July 24): Sabah is among the top five states in the country in terms of development projects and programmes completion, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri
Panglima Hajiji Noor.
Based on the MyProjek report, he said a total of 1,271 projects, comprising 396 continuity projects and 876 new ones are being implemented this year in Sabah.
'Of the figure, 1,171 projects or RM5.584 billion are physical projects while another 100 or RM355.24 million are non-physical projects,' he said.
'I urge everyone to step up to ensure Sabah achieves the best in terms of projects or programmes implementation in Malaysia,' he said when chairing the State Development Action Council (MTPNg) meeting at Menara Kinabalu here on Thursday.
Despite the good performance, the Chief Minister emphasized that it should not be an excuse to become complacent and slow down the momentum in monitoring government programmes or projects.
'Instead, it should serve as an indicator for us to work harder to improve and complete every programme and project more swiftly, accurately, and in an orderly manner, ultimately bringing benefits to all the people,' he said.
Hajiji said the implementation of programmes and projects should not solely fall on the shoulders of one agency, rather all agencies and ministries should play a significant role in ensuring their success.
The Chief Minister said the State Government has also made efforts to strengthen the state's financial governance by enhancing financial management procedures and
guidelines.
This is carried out through the evaluation and consideration of procurement procedures as well as the appointment of concessions as a mechanism to address development issues in the state, he said.
'In addition, each agency or ministry must monitor more frequently the disbursement of allocated funds to ensure they are fully utilised and benefit the people.
'Payments to contractors and consultants must also be made promptly, accurately, and in an orderly fashion to ensure that project implementation in the state is not disrupted or delayed,' he said.
The Chief Minister also reminded the council to ensure all pressing development needs are addressed swiftly.
Hajiji said the State Government is also relentless in carrying out initiatives under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan to implement income enhancement and productivity improvement programmes to address the poor and hardcore poor issues, which is dynamic.
'Through these initiatives, we are not only helping to increase income but also strive to assist targeted groups to get out of poverty.
'Our concern is also evident through our relentless efforts and hard work in ensuring that every national or state agenda is adhered to, improved upon, and further enhanced,' he said.
Hajiji said that the continuous provision of needs and facilities to the people, through the upgrading of public amenities, basic facilities, social infrastructure, and social service assistance, has provided multiple benefits to the poor in Sabah.
In addition, he stated that the Human Capital and People's Well-Being thrust in the Hala Tuju SMJ development plan also focuses on developing the potential of the people
through education, training, and social well-being.
'This includes initiatives to improve living standards, provide educational opportunities, and comprehensively empower human capital, while also educating the society to be more aware and inclined to participate in or contribute to the implementation of programmes that benefit target groups such as the poor and hardcore poor,' he said.

RM5k aid for Tambunan small traders

TAMBUNAN: A total of RM275,000 was distributed to 55 licensed small stall traders in Tambunan through a one-off special aid of RM5,000 each. The assistance was presented by Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan at the Tambunan District Community Hall. The initiative is part of the 'Bantuan Untukmu' program aimed at easing the operational costs of traders, improving their business infrastructure, and boosting grassroots entrepreneurship. In his speech, Dr Jeffrey expressed pride in the achievements of the Tambunan community, noting that the district has nearly eradicated hardcore poverty. However, he acknowledged that there remain segments of the population living in poverty who require targeted strategic support tailored to current needs. He stressed the importance of continued support and new initiatives to ensure no citizen is left behind in the development process. Dr Jeffrey also reminded the people of Tambunan to stay alert to the various forms of assistance available, not only from the State Government but also from the Federal Government. He emphasized that such aid is not meant to foster dependency but to serve as a stepping stone toward self-reliance and long-term well-being. The federal government, through the Sabah Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industries (Maffi), has also intensified efforts in rural development with allocations exceeding RM33.59 million for agri-food projects across Sabah. These projects include the rehabilitation of 534.55 hectares of abandoned paddy fields, the construction of 23 agricultural produce collection centres, and the implementation of integrated cash crop and livestock initiatives. These efforts not only generate economic output but also empower the local agricultural sector. He also highlighted the Agropreneur Muda program, which offers opportunities for youth aged 18 to 45 to become agricultural entrepreneurs. The program provides grants, fertilizer assistance, access to productive land, and technical training. He noted that the initiative is particularly relevant for young people in Tambunan who possess idle land with development potential. He advised the RM5,000 aid recipients to use the funds wisely, whether to improve their stall structures, upgrade business equipment, or increase inventory. The assistance is expected to boost their daily income and stimulate the local economy through higher-quality services and products. Furthermore, he encouraged traders to view the aid as a catalyst toward achieving more stable and sustainable income streams. In closing, he congratulated all recipients and expressed hope that their businesses would continue to grow and benefit their families and communities. GRS reaffirms support for MADANI government under Hajiji
KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has reiterated its support for the Madani government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that this decision stems from the federal government's responsiveness to Sabah's demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Hajiji, who is also Sabah's Chief Minister, highlighted that many of the state's requests had been approved and implemented, benefiting the people. 'I would like to reiterate that GRS remains supportive of the Prime Minister. Many of our initiatives and demands under MA63 have been approved by him,' he said during his winding-up speech at the Gagasan Rakyat Annual General Assembly. He contrasted the current administration's cooperation with past difficulties in securing approvals. 'Previously, it was very difficult to devolve powers or approve our requests... if the Madani Government is good for our state, why wouldn't we support it?' Hajiji added. The shift in GRS's support came after dissatisfaction with the previous federal government's stance on the 'Borneo Bloc' concept. 'I was shocked by those remarks... I reflected on it for a long time and eventually lost heart in them,' Hajiji explained. GRS, PH team-up for polls
Hajiji: We intend to maintain local party dominance in Sabah KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has confirmed an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan for the coming state polls, ending speculation over the tricky alignment between state and national coalitions in Sabah. Chief Minister and GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the local-based coalition will continue cooperation with Sabah Pakatan Harapan forged midway through its first five-year term, after Sabah Barisan Nasional withdrew its support in 2023. 'We will continue the cooperation between GRS and Pakatan as it stands,' he said after officiating the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) annual general assembly here yesterday. Hajiji said GRS component parties had consented to the arrangement as a strong collaboration between GRS and the national coalition would bring great benefit. On seat sharing between GRS and Pakatan, he said a formula was in hand with the exception of a few overlapping seats. In his keynote address at the annual meeting of Gagasan Rakyat, the anchor party of the ruling eight-party GRS, Hajiji hinted that the latter would continue working with Pakatan to ensure continuity and stability. However, he also touched on what he described as maintaining 'local party dominance in Sabah.' 'Our master is here, not there,' he told delegates in an apparent attempt to assure that Sabah-based parties will remain dominant in the state's political sphere. Hajiji, who is the Gagasan Rakyat president, said he was confident that GRS would win a second term with the people's strong backing. The eight-party GRS forged a coalition with Sabah Barisan Nasional to oust the Warisan-Pakatan Harapan state government in the 2020 snap state polls. Barisan pulled out its support in 2023 but GRS got the backing of Pakatan Harapan to retain its hold on the state government and complete its five-year term. 'We have built a strong home, rooted with the aspirations of the people. We have been realistic in our plans for the state and never made grand promises we could not deliver. We have prioritised the people's welfare,' Hajiji said, adding that the coming state election would be a litmus test for GRS. He also highlighted the importance of dominant local representation and protecting the state's rights, adding that GRS needed a big mandate to give Sabah a better bargaining position. The Chief Minister urged party members to counter what he termed as fake and false claims made against the party and its leaders. 'The fake and smear campaigns on social media by our opponents must be countered. 'This politically motivated propaganda is aimed at undermining GRS through misinformation and slander,' he said, adding that misinformation, including fake infographics and videos, were being used to sway public perception. Besides Gagasan Rakyat, the GRS coalition comprises Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah STAR, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Usno, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS). PGRS holds 26 of the 42 state seats held by GRS. The 17th Sabah state election must be held before the automatic dissolution of the state assembly on Nov 11.
