Jake Paul loses $1million bet with Mike Tyson on Katie Taylor fight

Daily Mirror6 days ago
Katie Taylor beat Amanda Serrano for the third time in a row as she won their trilogy fight in New York, but the bout failed to live up to expectations
Jake Paul lost his $1million bet with Mike Tyson as Katie Taylor retained her undisputed super-lightweight world title with a third victory over Amanda Serrano in New York.
After three years since their first bruising battle in the Big Apple, which saw Taylor clinch a split-decision win, and another victory in Texas last year, the third bout fell short of expectations, swapping out drama for strategy. However, Taylor deservedly emerged victorious again, with one judge scoring it a draw and two judges favouring her 97-93.

And the result means Paul, who promotes Serrano, will have to stump up to Tyson who had backed Taylor to win. The former opponents, who met in a controversial fight last year, agreed a pre-fight bet on social media. In a video uploaded to Instagram, Paul confirmed that he and Tyson have a bet for the main event. "Mike! Wassup?" Said Paul. "Man, a lot of people are saying that Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor's fight was better than ours." Tyson quickly replied "Oh yeah?"

Paul quickly cut in and replied: "They're fighting again this weekend!" Without hesitation, Tyson stated: "I have got Katie (Taylor)." Unsurprisingly, the 'Problem Child' is backing MVP star Serrano. "Do you wanna bet?" Replied Paul. After a brief pause, Tyson chuckled and agreed to the wager. "All right. If Katie wins then you get $1m, but if Amanda wins, then I get $1m." Tyson agreed: "I like that!"
And almost immediately after the final bell, Tyson took to social media to call on Paul to pay up. "Congrats to Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano on the trilogy fight on Netflix," he wrote. " Jake Paul, see you at dinner to collect my million!"

Ultimately, Friday night's third meeting had muted beginnings compared to the grand finale of their previous encounter. It wasn't until the second round that Serrano ramped up the attack, though Taylor responded swiftly with her counters.
The third round saw a surge of excitement as both fighters briefly abandoned caution. Taylor then dominated the fourth, timing her assaults with increasing accuracy and maintaining the upper hand through the fifth round, despite the fight not quite reaching the explosive heights many had hoped for.
Serrano ramped up the pressure as the second half of the fight began, cornering Taylor and landing a solid right hand as the bell rang. However, Taylor retaliated in the seventh round, with one combination often being enough to win the round due to the lack of action.
By the eighth round, Taylor had a bruise under her right eye and was instructed by her corner to increase her efforts in the final four minutes. Despite this, she timed Serrano perfectly, causing the Puerto Rican to miss before counterattacking.Ultimately, it was Taylor who ended the fight stronger, leaving the decision once again to the judges.
In other fights, Savannah Marshall suffered an unexpected loss to Shadasia Green in their super-middleweight unification bout. Despite Green losing a point for holding, she was declared the winner on two out of three judges' scorecards, marking only the second defeat in Marshall's career.
Meanwhile, Ellie Scotney defeated Yamileth Mercado to retain her super-bantamweight world titles, while Alicia Baumgardner did the same against Jennifer Miranda in the main support fight. Cherneka Johnson, Chantelle Cameron, Ramla Ali and Tamm Thibeault also celebrated victories.

22 Kids and Counting's Noel Radford opens up on 'emotional clash' with wife Sue

Noel and Sue Radford, stars of the documentary series 22 Kids and Counting, have opened up on their family lives and admitted that they have very differing views on one particular matter Noel and Sue Radford have revealed an "emotional clash" that arose after Noel made a pivotal decision. ‌ The Radford Family, who became household names through Channel 4's documentaries such as 15 Kids and Counting and the upcoming 22 Kids and Counting, live in a sprawling 10-bedroom house in Morecambe with their 22 children and 14 grandchildren. ‌ Both Noel, 54, and Sue, 50, were adopted and have had different experiences with their biological families. In the new series, viewers will see Noel meet his birth mother for the first time since he was adopted at just 10 days old. ‌ Sue, however, has no desire to seek out her own birth parents, acknowledging their "very different views" on the matter. Speaking to Closer Magazine, Noel shared: "It was an emotional clash rather than horrible. We have differing views on it, but I totally understand Sue doesn't want to find hers and that is fine." ‌ Sue explained her feelings, saying: "We have very different views. For me, my mum and dad are my mum and dad. I never want to meet my birth mum, and after losing Alfie, it made me more determined, as when you lose a child, you don't have the option to give it up. We have wonderful kids and a happy life, and we feel very lucky we've got them." In 2014, the Radford family was struck by tragedy when their son Alfie was stillborn. Fast forward to 2024, and they've posted a heartfelt homage to Alfie on Instagram, sharing a photo of his birth certificate with a poignant message, reports the Manchester Evening News. Their Instagram update featured blue heart emojis and the touching words: "Received Alfie's birth certificate yesterday. This is going to be framed. So precious." ‌ Despite a contented life with his adoptive family, Noel harboured a yearning to meet his biological mother and enlisted the help of an adoption expert to find her. The search was successful, revealing that she too was keen on a reunion. Noel recounted the reunion as "emotional", having spent "a couple of hours" getting to know her and finding her "nice" and happy about their meeting. His mother opened up about her difficult decision to give him up at 17, hoping he would one day look for her. However, despite the warm encounter, Noel does not wish to establish a relationship with her. He expressed being "glad" to have met her but feels "that's it," reaffirming that his adoptive parents are his true family.

Geordie Shore's Holly Hagan reveals she had miscarriage as she issues important message

Geordie Shore's Holly Hagan-Blyth has announced that she had a miscarriage earlier this year, with the reality TV star sharing a 'reminder' to fans whilst discussing the experience Reality TV star Holly Hagan-Blyth has announced that she had a miscarriage four months ago. The Geordie Shore cast member shared the news this morning whilst addressing questions about potentially expanding her family. ‌ Holly, 33, and her husband Jacob Blyth, 32, are already parents to son Alpha-Jax, two. She's now warned fans on social media against asking "when" they will have any more children in the future and revealed in the same post that she had a miscarriage earlier this year. ‌ She opened up about the experience in a Q&A with her followers on Instagram today. Holly invited fans to submit questions this morning and went on to discuss her life, including parenting, in her subsequent responses to them. ‌ Holly later said that the majority of questions she had received were about the prospect of her having more children in the future. One fan had submitted in the Q&A: "Are you having anymore children? You're a great mum." Responding, Holly said: "Thank you and just because 90% of the questions are about when we're having another and I do get constant comments like 'AJ needs a sibling' and I'm like I KNOWW!! I did want to speak about it at the time but didn't know how and didn't want any sympathy (and still don't so please don't message lol) but we did miscarry in March." ‌ She then gave a "reminder," in which she urged fans to be "mindful" when commenting on social media. Holly said: "Just a reminder to be mindful when commenting saying 'when's the next' because how on earth would we know that." Holly and Jacob welcomed their son Alpha-Jax in 2023. She shared at the time that she "couldn't have wished for a better birth experience" and that they were enjoying their "little baby bubble" following the newborn's arrival. She's since kept fans updated and has spoken candidly about aspects of her experience as a parent, including feeling anxiety. And whilst reflecting on the first year of Alpha-Jax's life in May, she said it had been the "toughest year" for her. ‌ Alongside footage from his first year, she wrote two months ago: "Although this looks full of happiness and joy, I'm not ashamed to say this was the toughest year of my life. People would say 'oh it's hard but the good out weighs the bad doesn't it?' And I'd genuinely not know how to respond. "I felt so much guilt for not enjoying it as much as my friends. Or feeling like the things that came naturally to them didn't seem to come naturally to me. I know now babies temperaments can be so different. And AJ just hated being a baby." ‌ She continued: "It's like, how can you love something so much that you'd take a bullet for them, but also feel like you might have made the wrong choice becoming a parent at the same time. It was so confusing and there's so much shame from people who haven't felt that, or who may just have really easy babies. "If you'd of asked me this time last year I'd of said I'm one and done. But I don't feel like this now. I'm sharing this because I want anyone who may be feeling like this to know that it does get better. The good is now massively outweighing the bad and I love being a mam so much." Holly told fans that becoming a parent is a "huge adjustment" and encouraging giving "grace" to those struggling to know that it's okay to talk about it. She added: "It doesn't mean you're a bad parent or that you don't love them as much as someone who is finding it easy! You're not alone and it does get better." ‌ She has also previously spoken about the joy that her son has brought her though. Paying tribute for his first birthday last year, she wrote: "Happy 1st birthday to my beautiful, intelligent, cheeky and wild little boy." Holly added: "You brighten up every room with your energy and always have everyone smiling and laughing. The most challenging year of our lives but your little face and laugh makes it all worth it! We love you so much baby boy." If you have been affected by this story, advice and support can be found at the Miscarriage Association. You can call them on 01924 200799 or email info@
