Man nabbed in Menglembu for stealing undergarments
IPOH: A 48-year-old man has been arrested by the police for allegedly stealing women's undergarments in Menglembu.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the unemployed suspect was arrested on Wednesday (May 7) at 11am.
ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said this was following a report that was lodged by a 45-year-old woman on Tuesday at about 8.20pm.
"We are aware of a closed-circuit television camera footage of the incident that has gone viral on Facebook.
"A remand order will be obtained from the Magistrate's Court on Thursday to facilitate investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft," he said when contacted.
In the 25-second video, the suspect is shown getting off a motorcycle and snatching five pairs of underwear from a laundry drying rack placed outside the woman's house.
"A background check on the suspect found no past criminal record," he said.
"The police welcome information from the public on any criminal activities, which can be channelled via the district control centre at 05-254 2222 or any nearest police station," he added.

Perak education, higher education, youth and sports committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said on Wednesday (June 11) that initial investigations confirmed the Facebook account responsible for the insensitive post belonged to a teacher at the school. The state Education Department has instructed the school where the teacher is believed to teach to prepare a full report on the matter. Social media platforms remove 159,518 harmful content
PUTRAJAYA: Social media platforms Facebook, TikTok and YouTube have agreed to remove 159,518 pieces of content related to online gambling, scams, cyberbullying and fake news as of yesterday, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said the figure is part of 174,473 online content takedown requests made so far this year. 'Of the total, nearly 160,000 pieces of content have been taken down, with 51 per cent involving online gambling, 25 per cent scams, 12 per cent cyberbullying and nine per cent fake news. 'Of these, 57 per cent were on Facebook, 28 per cent on TikTok, and 13 per cent on YouTube. Other platforms involved smaller numbers, but these three alone represent nearly 95 per cent of the overall problems we are seeing on social media,' he said at the Communications Ministry's monthly assembly at Menara Komunikasi here today. Present were Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, as well as Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin. Fahmi said that despite the ongoing efforts to remove such harmful content, there are growing concerns over the continued presence of child exploitation content online, particularly on Facebook. 'This raises the question of whether existing laws and cooperation are sufficient, or whether we need a more strategic and efficient approach to tackle the issue. 'We are aware that late last year, the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) conducted an integrated operation known as Op Pedo,' he said. On the government's move to implement a licensing framework for social media platforms earlier this year, Fahmi said the initiative aims to make digital platforms in Malaysia safer, especially for children. He added that the government's efforts have continued with the passing of the Online Safety Act (OnSA) 2024 in Parliament last December, which will be enforced soon. 'For everyone's information, the OnSA has received royal assent from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and is currently in the process of being enforced,' he said. The OnSA grants the MCMC the authority to take action against social media platforms that fail to fulfil their obligations.

Contractor fined RM50,000 for falsifying documents on MMEA vessel repairs
SHAH ALAM: A contractor was fined RM50,000 by the Sessions Court here after he pleaded guilty to forging documents related to repair works on a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) patrol vessel five years ago. Judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin handed down the sentence on Zulham Shah Mohammad, 44, on Thursday (June 12) and ordered him to serve six months in jail if he failed to pay the fine. The accused was charged with submitting false documents certifying that Subturbo Sdn Bhd had completed the repairs and tested the Remote Control System and Monitoring Control System on KM Sugut when, in fact, the work had not been carried out. He was accused of committing the offence at the MMEA Engineering Division, Home Ministry, Levels 4 to 11, One IOI Square, IOI Resort, Putrajaya, on Nov 6, 2020. The charge was framed under Section 471 of the Penal Code for fraudulently using as genuine a forged document, punishable under Section 465 of the same Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Earlier, during mitigation, the accused's counsel, Aiman Abdul Rahman, requested that the court impose the agreed fine of RM50,000. "I believe the early guilty plea has saved the time of many parties, was made with a sense of remorse, and the accused will not repeat the offence,' he said. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Ahmad Fariz Abdul Hamid, requested that the court impose an appropriate sentence as a deterrent to the accused and the public. In the same court, senior MMEA officer Muhamad Izuar Zainudin, aged 42, claimed trial to a charge of abetting Zulham Shah in forging the documents at the same location and date. Ahmad Fariz requested the court to set bail at RM30,000. However, counsel Shahidah Muslimah Roslan, representing Muhamad Izuar, appealed for a lower amount, citing her client's cooperation throughout the investigation.
