Past govts patronised terrorists, tried to undermine Sanatan Dharma: CM
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday lashed out at past governments in the state, alleging that they 'indulged in caste-based politics and appeasement, dividing society along caste lines while 'limiting the benefits of government schemes to one influential family.' Adityanath was addressing a gathering in Saharanpur after inaugurating 15 development projects worth Rs 381 crore. Criticising the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP), Adityanath accused them of 'patronising terrorists and attempting to undermine Sanatan Dharma'. He referred to the Malegaon blast case and the demolition of Ram Setu and alleged that earlier governments tried to tarnish the reputation of Hindu leaders and India's cultural heritage. The CM remarked that the 'double engine government' is 'not a buffalo cart but a bullet train.' He emphasised Saharanpur's spiritual roots, identifying it as the 'sacred land of Maa Shakumbhari and Mata Tripuri Bala Sundari.' He announced that the construction of Maa Shakumbhari University has been completed and its official inauguration would take place soon. He also shared plans for the Maa Shakumbhari Corridor and an elevated road to improve all-weather access to the pilgrimage site. The CM also spoke about the beautification of the ashram of Jahar Veer Goga, a warrior saint who resisted foreign invaders 900 years ago and attained samadhi here after meeting Baba Gorakhnath. He noted that the ashram has now been transformed into a cultural site. Adityanath said that his government is committed to ensuring a balance between development and the preservation of cultural heritage. He announced that under the Smart City Mission, all municipal bodies at district headquarters across the state will be developed as smart cities. He said that the travel time between Saharanpur and Delhi has now been reduced to just three hours. The Chief Minister announced that women will be able to travel free of cost on buses on August 8, 9 and 10 as part of Raksha Bandhan celebrations. The Chief Minister called upon the public to organise Tiranga Yatras and collectively sing the National Anthem on August 15, in honour of Independence Day. Adityanath handed over certificates of appreciation, demo cheques, as well as keys to houses and tractors to beneficiaries of several government schemes.

Bareilly police seize 250 drones, warn of Gangster Act for spreading rumours
Amid the growing concerns over the unauthorised drone activity and widespread rumors causing panic, the Bareilly police have launched a major crackdown following strict directives from chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Acting swiftly on the CM's orders, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anurag Arya claimed to have seized 250 drones used at weddings and private events, and ordered legal action against those responsible for spreading misinformation or inciting fear. To combat the spread of misinformation, police teams are actively visiting towns and villages to raise public awareness. (FOR REPRESENTATION) The SSP stated that the 250 confiscated drones have been deposited at various police stations across the district. Henceforth, flying drones—even for private events—will require prior written permission. The drones currently held in police custody will be released only after Rakshabandhan, and only upon submission of proper consent documents. He further warned that people spreading drone-related rumours and inciting public panic will face charges under the stringent Gangster Act. All station house officers (SHOs) and circle officers (COs) have been directed to closely monitor such incidents and take swift, decisive action whenever required. While the drone panic has largely been brought under control, police stated that rumors of thieves roaming villages continue to circulate in several rural pockets. The SSP noted that, in some cases, fearful villagers have attacked unfamiliar individuals. So far, five FIRs have been registered in connection with these such incidents, resulting in the arrest and imprisonment of 14 people. Additionally, one FIR has been filed related to drone-related misinformation, resulting in the incarceration of one individual. To combat the spread of misinformation, police teams are actively visiting towns and villages to raise public awareness. Residents are being urged not to trust unverified claims about drone sightings or reports of thieves. In case of any suspicious activity, the public is advised to immediately inform the local police station or dial the emergency helpline 112. Authorities have assured that police will respond swiftly and take appropriate action on the ground. 4 held for assaulting Nepalese woman In a separate incident under the jurisdiction of Qila police station, four people were arrested for brutally assaulting a Nepalese woman, who they mistakenly believed to be a thief. The woman had come to visit a male acquaintance on Friday night but was tied to a pole and beaten with sticks by locals. She suffered multiple broken teeth and a fractured right was admitted to the district hospital, where her condition is now reported to be stable. All four accused have been taken into custody and sent to jail. The SSP firmly reiterated that mob justice will not be tolerated and those taking the law into their own hands will face strict legal consequences. He urged citizens to remain calm and act responsibly, especially during the festive season. Emphasising the ongoing crackdown on unauthorized drone use and strong measures against those spreading rumors, the SSP stated that the Bareilly Police are committed to maintaining peace, order, and public safety throughout the district.

Corrupt, ineffective: Akhilesh Yadav slams BJP over flood situation in UP
Yadav listed several problems allegedly faced by the flood-affected people in the state, demanding a response from the Yogi Adityanath-led government ANI Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday sad that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh was "corrupt and ineffective" alleging that it failed to provide relief to the people affected by the flood situation in the State. Yadav listed several problems allegedly faced by the flood-affected people in the state, demanding a response from the Yogi Adityanath-led government. Sharing an X post, the SP chief wrote, "If the BJP government in UP can organise grand 'super VVIP' rallies or gatherings, why is it not carrying out relief and rescue operations during the floods? The BJP government has proven to be corrupt and ineffective." Further, he alleged a shortage of food and drinking water, and a lack of sanitation and healthcare facilities. "Not only in Prayagraj but across UP, the situation is dire due to floods. There is an acute shortage of food and drinking water. Due to the lack of toilets, people are forced to live in indecent and inhumane conditions. Sick children, pregnant women, and the elderly are unable to access medicines or treatment. Healthcare services are completely stalled," he said. Listing the problems, he added that the belongings have been inundated and people have no clothes to wear, while the flood-affected people are living in fear of venomous creatures and electrocution. "The fear of rats and venomous creatures is preventing people from sleeping. Power outages and the fear of electrocution are additional concerns. People forced to live on upper floors are also afraid of their homes collapsing. People's household belongings have been submerged. People have no clothes to wear. The ones they have are soaked. People are unable to charge their mobile phones, leading to a breakdown in communication," the X post read. He wrote, "People are gripped by the fear of flood-related diseases. It is said that floods leave behind not just mud, garbage, debris, and stench but also diseases and epidemics. Those who depend on daily wages are unable to go to work. The poor and labourers are on the brink of starvation. Farmers' fields and lands have been inundated. Shops have suffered losses worth billions of rupees." He highlighted that people have lost their identity cards and essential documents. "People's identity cards, ration cards, land and property documents, bank passbooks, educational certificates, medical prescriptions, and other essential documents have either been destroyed by water or washed away. People's vehicles have been submerged," Akhilesh added. The Samajwadi Party MP alleged that the BJP is not listening to the plight of the people whose livelihood depends on the river. He wrote, "For communities living "by the river, with the help of boats," there is a severe crisis of livelihood, but no one from the BJP government or its allied parties is there to listen or understand their plight. Children's education is being disrupted. The last rites of those who have passed away cannot be performed." He accused BJP leaders of being absent amid the crisis in the state and demanded accountability over the problems mentioned by him. He said, "In these circumstances, the public is extremely angry because the administration is absent, and the government is busy taking photos in a race for self-promotion. In such a situation, our major demand from the BJP government is that it publishes detailed responses regarding the above points. How long will the public be forced to live in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty? Amid claims of development and smart cities, the images of destruction are heart-wrenching. There will be peace only when the BJP is gone! The flood-affected say today, we don't want the BJP!" Uttar Pradesh is grappling with floods amid heavy rainfall in the state. Earlier today, in view of the prevailing inclement weather and consistent rainfall in several districts, District Magistrate Visakh G. Iyer announced that all government and private schools from Classes 1 to 12 will remain shut today in Lucknow. In Ayodhya's Jalwanpura locality, residents were seen wading through knee-deep floodwaters after the Saryu river overflowed due to persistent downpours, while several areas in Varanasi city in Uttar Pradesh were flooded following incessant heavy rainfall and a rise in the water level of the River Ganga. The water level of the river has been continuously rising since Saturday. Taking stock of the flood crisis, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had directed all ministers in charge to immediately visit their assigned districts, inspect relief camps, and directly engage with affected families. He instructed senior officials--including DMs, SPs, and CMOs--to stay on the ground and ensure 24x7 monitoring, said a press release on Saturday.
