Villa winger Bailey joining Evan Ferguson in Roma attack
ASTON VILLA HAVE confirmed winger Leon Bailey has joined Roma on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. The 28-year-old will join up with the Serie A side, who finished fifth in the league last season. Bailey has made 144 appearances for Villa since he signed for the club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021. The Jamaica international was a regular starter for Unai Emery's side over his first couple of seasons with the club, but saw game time limited in the latter half of last season after suffering an injury. Bailey helped Villa to the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season, where he scored and assisted in the last-16 tie against Club Brugge. Bailey becomes the second player from the Premier League to sign for Roma after Brighton striker Evan Ferguson made the move earlier in the window. Advertisement

Russell Martin risks Rangers revolt over defiant claims after Club Brugge loss
Russell Martin insists a trio of Rangers stars stepped up to the plate despite being slated for their performances in the humiliating 3-1 capitulation against Club Brugge. Martin gushed about summer acquisitions Joe Rothwell and Max Aarons, declaring both delivered their finest displays in Light Blue whilst Danilo sparked into life after pulling one back in the second period. However, our colleagues at the Daily Record saw things differently with Aarons earning a meagre three in their player ratings, Rothwell bagging a four and Danilo managing just a five courtesy of his strike. The embattled Ibrox boss faced furious backlash from the terraces as the Belgians exploited disastrous defending to storm into a three-goal advantage inside just 20 minutes and edge closer to Champions League qualification. Martin and his Rangers players were met with fury at the interval and final whistle, yet the man in charge remains convinced the negativity will quickly evaporate as he enthused about his team's second-half showing, reports the Daily Record. The manager said: "The first half was completely different because of the anxiety in the crowd. "In the second, we hurt them as much as they hurt us. We were playing against a very good team so they were always going to have moments when we were 3-0 down and throwing men forward. "We're seven and a half weeks in and usually at this point you've played only a couple of games. "We're at a club where the demands are totally different. We've had some guys who've found the start tough but tonight they came through it brilliantly. "It was Joe Rothwell's best game, Max Aarons' best game, Jayden Meghoma was fantastic. Danilo will be better for scoring and Djeidi Gassama grows with every game. "There's lots for us to be excited about moving forward. And the tie's not over. "Our focus is to win on Sunday at St Mirren playing with the same level of intensity we showed in the second half. "And then we have to go next week and really attack it."
