Word power championship winners felicitated
Vijayawada: Students from Andhra Pradesh showcased exceptional talent at the Inter State Word Power Championship organised by Vibha – Leap For Word in Mumbai and clinched the Overall Championship Trophy. Students from 11 states participated in the championship.
State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha B Srinivasa Rao felicitated the winners at the Samagra Shiksha State Office on Tuesday.
The event was attended by additional state project director Dr MR Prasanna Kumar, SAMO additional director K Nageswara Rao, Vibha South India Manager T Veeranarayana and others.
The winners from NTR District are B Sindhu Priya (Class 2) who secured the second position and B Revanth (Class 4) who got the first position from Kanimerla Mandal Parishad Primary School. Their guide teacher was Vijayalakshmi. Winner from Krishna district is G Jethin Manikantha (Class 3) of Vakkapattulavaripalem Mandal Parishad Primary School who secured the first position. His guide teacher was Vijaya Nirmala. Winners from SPSR Nellore district is P Charan Srinivas (Class 5) of MPPS Vandalur who secured the third position. His guide teacher was Sirisha.
The success of these students reflects the strong foundation of language education under Samagra Shiksha and the dedication of teachers across AP.

Schools to reopen today; pre-primary to be introduced in 210 schools in State
Ending a 49-day vacation, schools in Telangana are all set to reopen for Classes 1 to 10 for the academic year 2025-26 on Thursday. For the first time, the State government has also decided to deliver 'early childhood care and education' and run pre-primary sections. The initiative is under Samagra Shiksha, the integrated scheme for school education, and the aim is to ensure the preschoolers are ready for Class 1 in the next academic year. Pre-primary will be launched in the districts of Hanumakonda, Jagtial, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Mulugu, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Siddipet and Warangal. The first day at school, officials in the Education department and District Collectors across the State said, will be a celebratory one focused on welcoming the students back. Principals and teachers have already been instructed to decorate the schools, and install entrance arches with flowers and banners. The major task on the first day, however, is the distribution of school uniforms and textbooks and notebooks. School heads are also to monitor enrollment of students, which was keenly campaigned for during the week. The new academic year is also a fresh start for 1.12 lakh teachers across the State who have undergone five-day capacity building workshops, and senior school officials who have attended residential programmes. The focus has been on student learning assessment: Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) modules for Classes 1-5 and Learning Improvement Programme (LIP) – for Classes 6 to 9. The Education department will also partner with AXL EkStep Foundation for 5,651 schools to improve FLN. In a first, the School Education Department, learning from past year's experiences, has also taken up training sessions for cooks and sanitation workers to ensure food safety and overall school hygiene. As per the 2025-26 school academic calendar, schools for Classes 1 to 10 will have 230 working days. The first summative assessment will be conducted from October 24 to 31, the second summative assessment for Classes till 9th is scheduled April 10 to 18.

Top students honoured with ‘Shining Stars' awards
Kothacheruvu: Under the leadership of District Collector TS Chetan, top-performing students from the 2024–25 academic year were felicitated with 'Shining Stars - 2025' awards at a grand function held at Sri Venkateswara Kalyana Mandapam, Kothacheruvu. The event, organised by the District Education Department and Samagra Shiksha, recognised students who secured top marks in the Class 10 public exams. As part of the award, each student received 20,000 in cash, a medal, and a memento. A total of 187 Class 10 students and 38 Intermediate students were honored at the event. Local MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy, former minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, DEO Kishtappa, Intermediate Officer Devaraju, and other officials were present. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector urged students not to fall prey to the distractions of social media or the growing menace of drug abuse. He stressed that education should be complemented with physical and mental well-being to succeed in today's competitive world. MLA Palle Sindhura Reddy emphasized the importance of Class 10 and Intermediate education as the foundation for pursuing professional careers like medicine and engineering.

Fund crunch threatens to disrupt operations of hostels for tribal students in Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The tussle between Kerala and the Centre over the release of funds through the Samagra Shiksha scheme is set to hit the smooth functioning of six residential hostels for Schedule Tribe (ST) boys and one for girls that house close to 400 students. The hostels managed by Samagra Shiksha-Kerala (SSK) provide both residential and academic facilities to children hailing from sparsely populated, hilly and densely forested areas. The fund crunch has landed their academic future in uncertainty. The disbursal of Central funds through Samagra Shiksha has been facing disruption since the second half of 2023-24 but the SSK managed to overcome the crisis using the funds provided by local bodies under the elementary education head. However, with no funds in sight since the beginning of the current fiscal, SSK officials are in a fix on how to keep the hostels running. While the six boys' hostels, set up in 2018-19, have a combined intake of 300 students, there are 80 students in the facility for girls that was established in 2022. Of these, only the facility for girls functions from its own building; the rest operate from rented buildings. 'The hostels require Rs 2.14 crore annually for functioning. A major portion of the fund is spent on food, rent and the remuneration of teaching and non-teaching staff,' said an SSK official. Since the new academic year began on June 2, the hostels have been functioning at the mercy of the building owners and traders who allow credit for purchase of provisions.
