Post gangster killing, hospitals told to strengthen security

Time of India3 days ago
Patna: Following the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra inside a private hospital, superintendent of police (east) Parichay Kumar on Monday held a meeting with hospital representatives and reviewed the security arrangements.
Around 50 to 60 hospital representatives attended the meeting.
The SP gave necessary instructions, which included installation of HHMD (hand held metal detector) and high-resolution CCTV cameras, to strengthen the security on hospital premises. "The objective of the meeting is to further improve the security arrangements in the hospitals," he said. Additionally, various issues raised by the hospital management were listened to seriously, and assurances were given for their appropriate resolution.
Kumar said the hospitals need to increase the CCTV camera coverage to also capture roads, with a proper control room, to keep tabs on all the happenings. "If any suspicious activity is detected, inform the police or the local police stations. They should also display the contact numbers of the local police stations, SDPOs and SPs on the hospital premises," he said.
"In case of any medico-legal cases or if a criminal is admitted to hospital for treatment, the administration should inform the local police station.

These instructions were issued, and hospitals assured compliance. They mentioned employing security guards and following all guidelines provided. The HHMD should be used by all the hospitals to detect any weapons or illegal items while screening the patients, their attendants, and the visitors at the hospital," the SP said.
The main instruction is for effective access control, particularly checking people, patients, their attendants, and any suspicious person, he said.
Police have stepped up security and keeping an eye on hospitals after the paroled criminal Chandan Mishra was gunned down at a private hospital on Bailey Road in Patna on July 17. The police suspect security lapses and involvement of security personnel in helping the accused easily enter the hospital building and the patient's room.

Anti-drugs initiative launched

Udupi: With the motto for a drug-free India, the Anti-Drug Committee in Schools and Colleges initiative was officially launched at Shri Narayana Guru Sabha Bhavana, Bannanje, in collaboration with the Udupi district police on Thursday. SP Hariram Shankar presided over the event and discussed the harmful effects of drug abuse, noting with concern that Udupi district ranks third in Karnataka for the number of drug-related cases. He emphasised that regular interaction between college heads and the police department can act as a deterrent, preventing students from falling prey to drug addiction. He said that each college must now form an Anti-Drug Committee, which should consist of the principal, two staff members, and three students. The jurisdictional police officer – either an inspector or a sub-inspector (law & order) – will act as the nodal officer for the committee. The committee must meet once every month and organise at least one awareness activity–such as a campaign, walkathon, or similar outreach event. A representative from the local police station must be invited to every meeting, and the nodal officer should be called once every three months. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do you have a mouse? Banker held for aiding cyberfrauds open account using forged papers

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat State Cyber Crime Cell on Thursday arrested a relationship manager of a private bank for allegedly helping cyber fraudsters open a company account using forged documents. The account was later used to route over Rs 4.65 crore in scam money, police said. According to the FIR, a bank account in the name of a firm called Shiv Corporation was opened at a branch located in Savarkundla taluka of Amreli district. During the investigation, it was discovered that the address used for verification was fake. The verification photograph submitted showed a closed shop at HUDCO Society in Savarkundla, and further inquiries revealed that no such company existed there. Investigators found that the photograph had been taken without the knowledge of the actual shop owner. In reality, the verification was intended for another firm of the same name located 2 km away in a different locality. Despite these discrepancies, the accused bank employee approved the account opening, bypassing proper verification procedures.
