'Part Of Me Feels Relieved...': Wife Of Navy Officer Killed In Pahalgam Lauds Operation Mahadev

Days after three Pakistani terrorists involved in the Pahalgam massacre were killed on the outskirts of Srinagar under an operation codenamed as 'Operation Mahadev', the wife of Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal who was killed in the April 22 attack, Himanshi Narwal, in an exclusive interview to CNN-News18, expressed her happiness and stated that she feels relieved that those cowards were killed.
Speaking for the first time after Operation Mahadev's success and elimination of terrorists, Himanshi Narwal said that she is grateful to the defence forces of the country for avenging the Pahalgam attack.
'A part of me feels relieved that those cowards were killed. I am grateful to the defence forces for putting their life at risk for justice," Himanshi Narwal told CNN-News18.
Further raising her concerns over the rise in terrorism, she said, 'We need to understand that terrorism needs to be erased from its roots. My husband's soul would get peace if, because of his sacrifice, terrorism gets erased."
Operation Mahadev
Operation Mahadev, carried out by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police, eliminated the alleged mastermind behind the Pahalgam attack, along with two other terrorists affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the debate on Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the three terrorists — Suleiman alias Faizal Jatt, Afghan, and Jibran — were killed during Operation Mahadev, which took place on Monday.
Elaborating on Operation Mahadev, the Home Minister said the Intelligence Bureau received initial inputs on May 22, and by July 22, the exact location of the terrorists was identified. A joint operation was then launched, involving the 4 Para Battalion, CRPF, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

'Balanced', 'forward-looking': Pakistan hails 19% tariffs under U.S. trade deal
Pakistan on Friday (August 1, 2025) announced that the U.S. has imposed a 19% tariff on its exports and termed the step as a "balanced and forward-looking" move that enhances the country's competitiveness in the American market. The new rate is down from the previous 29% tariff announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. Welcoming the "successful conclusion" of the tariff-related discussions with the U.S., the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said, 'As per the outcome of these talks, a tariff of 19% will be applicable for Pakistani exports to the U.S. market.' The decision reflected a 'balanced and forward-looking approach by the U.S. authorities, keeping Pakistan competitive relative to other South and Southeast Asian countries', it said. The Ministry said the revised tariff level is expected to support Pakistan's export potential, especially in key sectors such as textiles, "which remain the backbone of the country's export economy'. Pakistan's exports to the U.S. rose by 11.06% to $5.552 billion from $4.999 billion in the first 11 months of the last fiscal. The Ministry said the current tariff presented a 'significant opportunity to expand Pakistan's footprint in the U.S. market'. 'It is now essential for Pakistani exporters and trade bodies to adopt an aggressive and focused marketing strategy to capitalise on this development,' it said. The statement also pointed out a substantial potential for growth in other sectors. 'The Government of Pakistan looks forward to further positive engagements and close cooperation with the United States in the areas of investment, artificial intelligence, crypto currency, mines and minerals, energy, and other emerging sectors," it said. The Ministry said Pakistan will continue to engage closely with Mr. Trump and the U.S. administration to promote the shared goals of economic development and mutual prosperity. The revised tariff for Pakistan came after the U.S. and Islamabad finalised a trade deal in Washington on Wednesday. In a social media post on Wednesday, the U.S. President said, 'We have just concluded a deal with the country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive oil reserves.' However, it was not immediately clear what massive oil reserves in Pakistan Mr. Trump was referring to. Meanwhile, Khurram Schehzad, Adviser to Pakistan's Finance Minister, in a social media post said, 'Pakistan is possibly the only country which the U.S. has offered its investments as well, besides a competitive trade deal.' The 'deal signals a strategic deepening of economic ties and shared growth', he said. Pakistan has long claimed to have large oil deposits along its coast, but no progress has been made to tap those deposits. It has been trying to lure in investments to tap into these reserves. The country currently imports oil from West Asia to meet its energy demands. Mr. Trump on Thursday signed an executive order that raised tariffs for over five dozen countries with Washington's negotiations for trade deals went down to the wire ahead of the August 1 deadline. The tariffs in the list range from 10% to 40%, with Japan being charged 15%, Laos and Myanmar (40% each), Sri Lanka (20%) and the United Kingdom (10%).

Bangladeshi model used fake Indian documents to purchase properties
Kolkata, Aug 1 (PTI) Bangladeshi model and actress Shanta Pal allegedly used fake Indian documents to jointly purchase properties in the southern part of the city along with her live-in partner, a police officer said on Friday. Pal was arrested earlier this week, with fake Indian documents like Aadhaar card, ration card. Police are verifying the details of the property transaction, the officer said. Initial probe revealed that Pal allegedly used fake documents and entered into a 'digital marriage" with the man, hailing from Andhra Pradesh. She arrived in Kolkata in 2023 from Barisal, Bangladesh, using her Bangladeshi passport. 'She brought along her friend and alleged partner, Ashraf, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, who works in the merchant navy. 'The duo rented an apartment in Park Street and later moved to Golf Green, where they began living together. Shanta reportedly kept Ashraf's passport in her possession. With the help of a local agent she allegedly forged multiple Indian identity documents, including ration card, Aadhaar card, voter ID, and PAN card," the officer said. She obtained a fake Aadhaar card, falsely claiming to be a resident of Gopalpur, Barshul in Burdwan, and later procured another under her Golf Green address. 'Using both her and Ashraf's documents, they allegedly purchased properties in Kolkata," police said. Further investigation revealed that Shanta had represented Bangladesh in the Indo-Bangla Beauty Pageant in 2016, and in 2019, she went on to become Miss Asia Global. 'Following her success in modelling, she began her acting career before eventually joining a Bangladeshi airline," he said. Police are cross-checking her professional background as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged identity fraud and property acquisition in India. In the last two years, Shanta acted in Tamil and Bengali films, and even signed an Odia film, the officer said.
